Thank you for your question! In the growing season it is best but you are fine to prune anytime when damaged leaves need to be removed. Happy Growing!

I have a FLF that has a main stalk and a side branch. The side branch is so slow to grow so I tried to prune it and it’s still not growing/putting out new branches etc. Any suggestions? Should I try to chop it again?

Hi! I have a single-stem, no-branches fiddle leaf fig that’s almost 2 years old. I tried pinching the top-most 2 leaves and bud off my plant in January to propagate for a friend. I watched your videos on how to successfully pinch a plant, and was hoping new growth or branches would sprout from the top. However, the top of the plant has just shriveled up and I don’t see any new growth starting. Do you have advice on how to encourage growth from the top of the stem?

Sounds like your plant is nearly there with branches! I recommend making sure the plant is getting enough water and light as these factors will determine if the plant has enough energy to grow the new branches after pinching. Water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the water drains really well out the bottom drainage holes. The plant should be sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window. Adding 3-1-2 NPK ratio plant food and a root supplement can help! You should put the Tools that you need to do it first. Since that’s what you need to start and that’s important.

I have a new tree. Have had it for about a year. It’s still growing slowly but doing well overall. I just broke off a leaf yesterday because it was pretty brown. Is breaking it off okay to do? Like without using pruning scissors?

Yes, that is ok to remove a leaf like that. No harm to the plant. Happy growing!

Newer leaves that are smaller than older leaves can mean a couple of different things. Lower light, or nutrients can cause the newer leaves to not grow as large. Check your light source and if you have had the soil in the pot for over 1-2 years, it may need a refresh. The plant uses the nutrients and minerals from the soil within the first 1-2 years. After that, it needs to be refreshed and adding in a certified 3-1-2 NPK plant food can also help! Happy Growing!
