Our angel is a bona fide musical genius whom also happens to be the most extraordinarily musically gifted and talented young female vocalist many of us have ever heard. Angelina clearly was born with a highly developed intuition, intellect and hypersensitive instincts.
This is my 135th time listening to this MASTERPIECE and each time I experience a new level of perfection by our ethereal prodigy extraordinaire, Angelina Jordan. When you listen to the A cappella portions of this performance at the very end of the song you are truly experiencing the genius of Angelina Jordan’s PERFECT PITCH. Sinatra, rest in peace Angelina Jordan, the Bare Foot Queen has taken the crown and there is nothing like her in the universe. When I first heard her perform this, I put it on pause and brought up Sinatra, Bublé, Streisand, Fitzgerald and Vaughan's version of this song to compare it to AJ version, and none of them moved me like this version. It is so hard to comprehend that Angelina from 7 to 16 is the greatest story telling being in my 75 years of experiencing great vocalist and I can't wait for the rest of the story.
The only time you will hear this done better will be if Angelina decides to do a cover of herself. As a long-time fan of Angelina, while listening to this when it was first released, I was shocked to be shocked by this performance. 😊😊 I can never seem to keep up with how much better she can get.
Soul, when Angelina covers a song she sprinkles her angel dust on them and then takes ownership of them. There is gold, there is platinum, there is diamond and then there is Angelina, an extraordinary rare gem.

Something very mysterious happens when we listen to Angelina sing for us. Our hearts are so open when we listen to her, every word, every note, emotionally affects to such a degree our heart dances with every sound her voice makes. By the end of any song, uninterrupted, we have been drawn completely into her world and perhaps unsaid, we thank her as if she was right next to us. To our dear reactors, obligated to pause or critique the song in progress, we understand and we enjoy your video's. Most of us have heard the video several times and the feeling we get never wears off and at the same time we smile watching and listening to our favorite reactors drawn into her web. Her mom Sara is always concerned with how her young daughter will be perceived by the public and she fully realized how naturally 'sultry' she comes across in this performance that is enhanced by her 'Persian Princess' looks. That's why she preferred to have her vocals overdubbing the visuals. By doing this, the viewing listener sees, not a sultry lounge singer, but a stunning looking teenage girl meandering through an antique furnishings store as she appears to be innocently day dreaming. This prevents any mistaken 'sensual' connotations that the public might otherwise have developed from the presentation.
@Todd S I base what I've said off of things like Angelina's original recording called 'Shield', where she's thankful for the protective 'shield' given her by the family and foremost her mother. Then, there is Sara's insistence that Angelina not sing the 'dark theme' lyrics of Amy Winehouse in her song 'Back To Black'. She only allowed Angelina to record it after Angelina changed the major portion of the song's lyrics just prior to the recording session. 'Back To Black' became 'Back In Love'. Also, when Angelina wanted to sing Amy's hit song 'Rehab', Sara made sure the theme was changed to not wanting to go back to school, not the rehab clinic Amy was talking about. It made me realize how careful she is in presenting her daughter to the public and the rendition of 'Valentine' being overdubbed, as against just singing it, just reinforces my thoughts concerning Sara. She is one 'super-protective' mama in my estimation.

I don't think the world was ready for even more of a valentines gift, given the nature of the song and holiday. I'd say good call not to show her singing for once. Kind of balanced. At 68 years old, I have heard MANY versions of this, but in my opinion, this is the best ever, and I was sure this would be #1 on my list for a long time. Just to show me how wrong I was, a short time later she released "Suspicious Minds", and once again I was in awe. That was quickly followed by her official cover of "I Have Nothing", and now, after learning my lesson, I just wait to be even more impressed with each new song. She has made my expectations so much greater, but I have faith that this young prodigy will not disappoint. Great reaction young lady, and I look forward to many more. Angelina taught me the true meaning of “takes my breath away”, because I find myself holding my breath when she sings, and find no discomfort from not breathing.
This is vocal perfection & by far the best version of this classic jazz standard I've ever heard. I've heard many legendary singers cover this song, but no one comes close to this, IMO. It's my current #1 song by Angelina, but that could change with the next one!!!

I think it May be the Version Angelina was using as a template for her Earliest recording of My Funny Valentine. I think this is her most masterful performance. She has such an extensive palette of vocal chops that she can use at the drop of a hat plus that emotional genius to know how to sing the emotion and capture the listener. When I find out that someone has listened to Angelina but they’re not so excited by her it just blows my mind! I really appreciate your analysis of this phenomenal performance by Angelina. Do you know that she speaks several languages. I do not know this from personal experience, but many have pointed this out. There is an explanation: Her father is Swedish, her grandmother is from Iran and her grandfather was from Japan. Sara, Angelina's mother, lived for a time in Japan with her parents. Angelina was born in Norway but has spent part of her upbringing in the United States. Etc .... She has thus heard / practiced the following languages during her upbringing: Norwegian, Swedish, English, Farsi, A little Japanese. Even when Angelina was 8 years old, after the win in NGT, many tried to sign a contract with her! They came flying to Norway in their private jets! But they were allowed to go home without a contract. Even Disney. Angelina and her family already decided then, that she would have as normal childhood as possible.

This is such an incredible beautiful rendition and she has an incredible way of connecting to your soul and make you feel the song. She has a few short blasts, but mostly she makes this version incredible by subtle means. She dances with the melody and rhythm, slips and slides from one note to another, throws in a bit of fry, loads of delightful vibrato's, heavenly hums and dramatic dynamics. She is developing her skills and mastery at an incredible rate! The best way to deal with being blown away like this, is listening to it a dozen times or more and get slowly comfortable with this performance giving you the shivers :-)

I agree whole heartedly whit your opinion about this performance. This is the best cover she's done thus far in my opinion. She really gets to show of her vast tool kit in this song. No resemblance to either Adele or Amy. Angelina is much more of an old school jazz singer.

Angelina is channeling Ella Fitzgerald and she also has a Nat King Cole quality to her enunciation, she is definitely a throwback to the ‘50’s, no one sings like this anymore, which makes her unique.

This 1937 show tune has been covered hundreds of times, and one (the Gerry Mulligan quartet version) was even inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry for the tune's "cultural, artistic and/or historical significance to American society and the nation’s audio legacy." I certainly haven't heard them all, but I've listened to many of them, and Angelina's (once again!) really reigns supreme as far as the vocals. I don’t understand why YOUNG LEGEND didn’t sing this song in her concerts this Summer in NORWAY.
I really appreciate your analysis of this phenomenal performance by Angelina. Do you know that she speaks several languages. I do not know this from personal experience, but many have pointed this out. There is an explanation: Her father is Swedish, her grandmother is from Iran and her grandfather was from Japan. Sara, Angelina's mother, lived for a time in Japan with her parents. Angelina was born in Norway but has spent part of her upbringing in the United States. Etc .... She has thus heard / practiced the following languages during her upbringing: Norwegian, Swedish, English, Farsi, A little Japanese. Even when Angelina was 8 years old, after the win in NGT, many tried to sign a contract with her! They came flying to Norway in their private jets! But they were allowed to go home without a contract. Even Disney. Angelina and her family already decided then, that she would have as normal childhood as possible.

I don't normally like this song, but as always Angelina transformed it into something magical and emotional. She is brilliant.
This is such an incredible beautiful rendition and she has an incredible way of connecting to your soul and make you feel the song.
She has a few short blasts, but mostly she makes this version incredible by subtle means. She dances with the melody and rhythm, slips and slides from one note to another, throws in a bit of fry, loads of delightful vibrato's, heavenly hums and dramatic dynamics. She is developing her skills and mastery at an incredible rate!
The best way to deal with being blown away like this, is listening to it a dozen times or more and get slowly comfortable with this performance giving you the shivers :-)

I agree whole heartedly whit your opinion about this performance. This is the best cover she's done thus far in my opinion. She really gets to show of her vast tool kit in this song. No resemblance to either Adele or Amy. Angelina is much more of an old school jazz singer.
Do hearts have throats? They must have, because Angelina grabs my heart by the throat each time I hear her sing, and she doesn't let go until the last note!
Angelina is channeling Ella Fitzgerald and she also has a Nat King Cole quality to her enunciation, she is definitely a throwback to the ‘50’s, no one sings like this anymore, which makes her unique.

This seems to be Angelina's sweet spot - the genre, timeline, range, and lyrics of this classic song all perfectly set her up to deliver incredible musicality and the deep emotional impact she is sooooo capable of. This 1937 show tune has been covered hundreds of times, and one (the Gerry Mulligan quartet version) was even inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry for the tune's "cultural, artistic and/or historical significance to American society and the nation’s audio legacy." I certainly haven't heard them all, but I've listened to many of them, and Angelina's (once again!) really reigns supreme as far as the vocals. The only improvement on this one that I can think of would be to see AJ singing the song. Angelina with a mic - that's all I really need to see.
