How much is Disney ready to spend on Disneyland Forward?

- Disney finally met with the City Council on Tuesday. In that meeting they made a financial promise to the city for what is assumed to be for Disneyland Forward. That promise was at least $2 billion. Doesn't seem like a lot. What does $2 billion get you anyway?

I understand Anaheim
Wants to have some limits to the parks…. But let’s face it they were desperate for Disney to open back up when it closed for covid seeing how much it affected Anaheim!
The whole city was built around the parks and the local economy almost entirely depends on tourism. The city should be bending over backwards to accommodate their expansion
@@anthony5775 agree! Its ridiculous!
Sweet! I hope I'm still riding rides in 30 years. Regardless, excited for my kids, grandkids and all the other kiddos out there! Thanks for the update, Fresh Baked!
I am still ridding most rides @72.
2.5 Billion doesn't seem enough for all they are planning.
I don’t think so either! It feels more political drive to sway Anaheim into giving them looser zoning (parking garages, hotel/DVC). Park expansion does not look like it’s at the forefront of this at all.
It's not. See my other comments here. Realistically, the theme park additions will cost tens of billions and won't open for 15-20 years. The initial 1.9 billion is likely part of setting everything up for those additions. They can't build on the existing parking lots until the new parking garage opens, and that will probably be 5-7 years from now, IF they get the necessary approvals.
All the “planning” will take 20-30 years . Those 2.5 billion is just to get things started. This project will last a lifetime for most of us
They've already said that the parking structures are not part of the $2.5 billion. So the total cost will be much higher.
Do we think that maybe some of the financial gaps for Disneyland Forward could be filled by sponsorships and collaborations?
It certainly helped Disney to get Disneyland built back in the day.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney overdoes the retail and shopping areas and underperforms in terms of actual theme parks. It really feels like the current Disney executives are not fans of the parks.
Totally agree.
Also agree. They only approve immediate ROI projects like retail and dining in the US.
A also totally agree!! Disney exec, are trying erase Disneyland pass and principles!
Pie in the sky idea's. Gavin Newsom in that picture makes me sick!
I had that same vomittie feeling! @@davidmacias741
30 years!?!? By that time tickets will be $1500 a day and genie plus will be genie minus..
Exactly!
By then Disney will have long been trust busted so that will mean bye bye Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and all acquisitions. Genie will also be gone because it will be illegal. More likely in 30 years DCA will enforce the California theming again or be turned back into the Disneyland parking lot.
The reason to own Hotel Way: Transportation hub. Connect the western parking lots, the main gates of DL and DCA, the eastern parking lot, and the southeastern “whatever”/3rd gate to the Anaheim convention center. Perfect place to put a peoplemover/skyway/monorail station.
Building a shopping center in the Toy Story lot would be financially crazy given Garden Walk right across the street and the Irvine Spectrum right down the road.
Yes, and having a 3-4 Starbucks on Disneyland property is financially crazy, too! And all those restaurants and hotels. There are already hotels and restaurants down the street from Disneyland.
2 billion is what the original California adventure would cost today. So the idea of a 3rd gate doesn’t seem likely. And if it does happen it will be a small park with not a lot to do just like the original DCA.
I agree. If Disney has the room for a third park, they should build it. Locals to Disneyland (if they’re like me) are jealous of Disney Worlds many gates and would love the chance to get a third one.
I used to be jealous too until I actually went to WDW. Do you want hollywood land as a whole park? Here's Hollywood studios!
That’s why the other options for quality theme parks such as WestCOT and DisneySea
It would be nice if they start by fixing Tomorrowland and build the Avengers E ticket attraction at DCA. About Disney World, nowadays I’d say that they have two parks worth visiting, Magic Kingdom, which for me is inferior to Disneyland, and Animal Kingdom.
@@marcoantoniogarcia38 Oh yeah fs. Tomorrowland is so outdated compared to the other lands. What really annoys me about Tomorrowland is that they have so much unused space. The people mover track, the show building they’ve been using for Star Wars stuff, and the movie theatre next to space mountain. Not to mention the rides that are simply outdated lol.
@@RakoonCD Yeah, I’m more jealous they have more to experience. I’m hoping they’ve learned from their failures at WDW when they design the park expansion so that we can get not only more quantity but quality.
OK,..given Disney's track record, what percentage of this to we expect to ever see the light of day? If it takes Disney 5 years to clone and build one Tron roller coaster? If it takes takes Disney 5 years to finish a giant construction crater in the middle of Epcot and get a bland city park inside of it with a cool statue?....and NO!,..it's STILL not finished yet. 5 years??? Yeah, this Anaheim thing will take 50 years.
the bottom line in all this is for guests to expect price increases like we've never seen before. this feels like "westcot" all over again. thankfully in 30 years i will most likely be dead and none of this will matter to me at all. my only hope is to see a new tomorrowland before i die.
My pitch: use the Disneyland expansion side for more hotels and a DL overflow bridge (exit for events/Fantasmic). Next, expand DCA into the Simba lot.
Hold the Toy Story lot for a few years while trying to add more land acquisitions to that. With DLR land restrictions lifted, it’s time to start buying out those homes. In theory they could add more acreage this way, and that would get you more land to work with for a 3rd park and backstage area. Sky’s really the limit as Disney can pay well over market price to add to that 70+ acres.
I am right there with you. Putting a shopping center into the toy story lot is one of the dumbest ideas on the planet.
And that’s probably what they’ll do.
Turning the Toy Story lot into a Shopping / Hotel area makes me think that one day a future 3rd park might be where Downtown Disney and the current hotels are located.
They were supposed to build a star wars hotel in DTD a few years back, that's why rainforest Cafe and ESPN zone closed.
One day….under completely different leadership.
I don’t think that they can fit a theme park in the Downtown Area or that they’ll remove the historic Disneyland Hotel, that would be a shame.
Downtown Disney is actually a lot smaller than it looks.
@@alextirrellRI Yes downtown Disney is a small foot print, but when you add in the parking lots & hotel space it would bigger than DCA is today. It just makes logistic since if the long term plan is to move downtown disney and the hotels to the toy story parking lot. A 3rd gate would need to be next to the other two for ease of access for the guests.
Skyliner can still be a very viable option to move masses between five points AND reclaim a bit of land
1. Mickey and Friends
2. DTD West - DH/VGC
3. DTD East - Esplanade
4. East Parking garage
5. Toystory lot - New entertainment
-This would allow retiring entire Tram and all the roads/infrastructure for them
-Buses from ToyStory to the entire eastern gate bus structure
-parking lot for Grand Cal
Streets- what I'm surprised that they did not offer is to buy out Disneyland Dr from Katella to Ball and absorb that into the expansion sites and do away with two expensive bridges (would need the Skyliner for hotel guests which make it somewhat problematic on convenience)
Back for Second Watch, LOVE THOSE MAPS!!!
Anytime you move out and above a situation you get a better idea of the beauty of a creation Disneyland really is.
What about Tomorrowland? That land needs so much work.
That has nothing to do with Disney trying to pursuade Anaheim to change its zoning laws, which is what Disneyland Forward is all about.
So, what you are saying is that by D23, Disney could announce a non-binding resolution suggesting that the beginning of blue sky imagineering might commence regarding Disneyland Forward?
Or a draft version for review… yes.
Why wouldn’t they offer to buy Disneyland Drive between Magic Way and Katella Ave? That’s another 10 acres they could use towards the park expansion.
Karelia Ave doesn’t exist near Disneyland, but if you mean KATELLA…
Disney would buy it in a second IF the current owners were willing to sell… which they aren’t.
The new park/upgrade is going to need way more than 2B. Did they not learn from the flop of CA adventure?
Ask the Oriental Land Company for a loan 😂
Lots of parking being lost due to this development. Hopefully Disney will revisit building the parking garage across from Harbor Blvd and the hotels. That project was shelved a couple years back.
Hello David. The expansion sounds good But; hopefully they’ll have more than one or two rides!! But it will probably be just like Galaxy’s Edge; shopping and only two attractions, and one is not really accessible price wise! A waste of time and money!
Always a good quality video!!
As much as I would love to see them do some really good improvements and attractions I'm not holding my breath . I bet anything it will be another hotel and some more shopping and maybe some minor traffic Street improvements.
obviously the math on GE is more recent, but DCA 2.0 which included the cars expansion had a cost of 1.1B which included Blue Sky Cellar, World of Color, Glow Fest(the beginning of a trend of nighttime parties in hollywood), a reimaging of the front of the park, a remodel of Paradise Pier which included ride updates, ride removals, and introduction of Midway Mania(not sure if cost for Mania is in the 1.1B), retheme of Mullholland Madness to Fly School, and ALL of carsland, amongst some other minor projects.
4:15 re: hotel way. My best guess is this road is related to transportation. Hotel way can be connected to the old DCA tram route and is still connected to the current east gate. At the very least, a good right of way for transportation options. Harbour blvd would not be a good candidate for anything (gondola or people mover) and the hotel way option for ground transport just makes sense and cost effective. Possibly a controlled intersection or underpass to connect the two roads. Don’t know about the convention way part though…
As a transportation enthusiast, anything elevated is difficult to build. There is not real path from main resort to Toy Story without potential sightline issues. Hotel owners and residents DO NOT like when people “lose their privacy” of air space.
Monorail or Peoplemover down the median of Harbor Blvd to the Toy Story Parking Lot.
I definitely see this as a transportation corridor as well. Then hook east to where Toy Story is. Trams… shuttles… busses… people mover type system… monorail extension? Blue sky thinking here.
@@darylfaulkner4882 yah, if Disney was willing to spend the money I can see the monorail. But realistically, that alone doesn’t have great capacity. Supplemental options would be required anyway so cost-benefit would diminish. Paved roads, maybe one underpass, is significantly cheaper upfront and maintenance. Build anything else and you definitely need more BOH maintenance space.
I would assume that the Hotel Way purchase would be to facilitate whatever Monorail/Peoplemover/Skyliner they intend to use to transport guests from the main parks to the Toy Story Lot
That is the key to the whole thing! Well spotted!
This is exactly what I thought too.
It’s too little too late and an attempt to try and pedal more Blue Sky Cellar ideas. It’s been 3 years and now it’s a 30 year project. Meanwhile Universal has been able to build an entire theme park. Throwing pasta at the wall and hoping something sticks.
Any plans to add ac to the monorail?!?!
Nope.
Orange County is filled with shopping centers!
Disney executives are braindead if the plan is to make Toy Story parking into a Disney Springs shopping district when Downtown Disney and Gardenwalk are nearby. Not to mention places like the Anaheim Packing House are just 4 miles away.
It is a shame Disney missed their chance to buy Gardenwalk and the surrounding areas for an shopping district. I believe Disney needs save money for a third gate:
The best plan to revive Tony Baxter’s WestCOT expansion plan for the Toy Story lot as the World Showcase will provide plenty of shopping, dining, and entertainment.
My question is when they built Galaxy's Edge, does the two billion include re-routing the railroad and the Rivers of America?
Yes.
If Disney ever builds a third gate in Anaheim, please let it be WestCOT.
If that does happen, DCA needs a swift kick in the nuts to be able to compete with a new APRICOT.
That's would be nice since DCA was originally supposed to be WestCOT in the first place.
Crazy that the original version of Disneyland only took one year to construct after about 2 years of planning. Now because of government bureaucracy, it takes longer than that to get a meeting with the city. Between state requirements and local governance this project will likely never be realized unless something radically changes in California.
Yeah, and that couldn't possibly be because all they had to worry about was ORANGE TREES. People live there now. The impact on them should be studied carefully. What is wrong with you?
SoCal is a densely populated concrete jungle. I’m always on the side of the city reps standing up for the residents of that area.
There's your answer, Jimmy. Love your southern California commies!!!
@@BobothePirate24 So you think Corporations have more rights than the people who LIVE in that area? Wow, you Fascists are worse than I thought.
There’s more to it, Disney wants to change zoning, they also probably want to purchase other property in the area, and it’s obvious they want more control of the streets there. A 30 year plan is to get approval from the city council and the states government to all be on Disney’s side. Career politicians are crooks and will get benefits for being on Disney’s side. Disney needs to make sure these people are in their back pockets, like Newsom who we all know what he wants to be and can benefit greatly siding with Disney. Disney already has the plans, they have shovels at the ready, but they just need the land and the 👍. It’s a waiting game, just like he said in the video, city council members change about every couple of years and so do their “opinion$.”
I’m imagining that, if they use the Toy Story lot for a shopping district, that they would probably be using Downtown Disney for park expansion or more hotel space.
A lot had to be done for Galaxy's Edge, including changing the exterior part of it, especially Rivers of America. I'd say it's more like 20 acres.
Thank you for breaking this down. I hope to see new lands soon 😀. 🌸
Thank you for that update. Sounds very exciting! ❤
My opinion, the very first thing that has to happen before any of the ground lots get developed into anything is the Eastern Gateway (and if that does include the shuttle drop off being moved, would free up some real estate that could be part of DCA (North of existing Hollywood boundary). The second thing I think they should do is a 3rd gate where Toy Story is using Avatar as a major anchor for the park, that way between the 3 parks, each would have one of the mega sci-fi franchises included. Then once the 3rd gate opens and some pressure is taken off of DL & DCA I would do full revitalizations of Tomorrowland and the remainder of Hollywood. Then I would use the expansion pads in the 3 parks on a rotating cycle. DL on year 1, DCA on year 2, 3rd gate in year 3. Also IF Universal actually is going to ditch Simpsons for Pokémon in the US parks as the rumors are suggesting, maybe Disney could do something with Simpsons in that 3rd park. But I definitely think the 3rd gate should be build before expanding DL or DCA.
I also think that eventually they really should purchase GardenWalk to use as the connecting corridor between Toy Story and the Eastern Gateway site.
I know people that work at Disney corporate. They are CONVINCED the land BEHIND Mickey and Minnie’s railway (all the way to the 5 freeway) will be used as well, displacing the current Disney owned backstage building there elsewhere.
I really think they should take some of that money and build a drop off area for the 🚅 in DCA?
The $2.5 billion that they are stating almost sounds like upcoming expansions within the parks. The amount of money that would be needed to expand would certainly require more for both. If I'm not mistaken OLC stated that the Fantasy Springs area is in that price range. So we could see a DCA expansion happen, but only a DCA expansion. A third gate in the Toy Story Parking lot would be nearly $10 billion if not more. In total, with everything that Disney is looking at, it's probably around $15-17 billion over two or more decades. Could push over $20 billion if land acquisition occurs.
Thanks for the update Fresh Baked!!
Thanks for the good video and analysis. Let me propose something big. Disney treats Disneyland as the start of a maglev train taking guests from Anaheim to Phelan, California. It's 50 miles away in Mojave. The train runs at 180 MPH (300 KPH), takes 18 minutes, the same as the Rise of the Resistance attraction. Once you get to the terminus, Disney has an area larger than Disney World to develop. Cost would be $2.5 B to build. -Frank
What could be more logical and common sensical than building a train that goes 180 mph over one of the largest earthquake faults in the world to an area where there's no one.
@@GLC-1979 Actually it is a well known engineering fact that being under ground in an earthquake is the safest place to be. BART has operated successfully since 1972 including tunnels under the Bay. -Frank
Underground monorails to access the parks would be a genius ideas
Building a third park as well as expanding the other two will make Disneyland a multi-day destination instead of being a place you fit within a day of visiting Southern California. The Toy Story lot 100% should become a third park with, perhaps, one additional new Disney hotel. The expansion on the north parking lot is 100% going to be the Frozen themed land that Asia has, since it fits perfectly (people are speculating that the layout of Frozen in Asia was designed with Disneyland in mind). Unsure what DCA will get, but I would assume it would be the Avatar land from Animal Kingdom.
The draft EIA shows that the section of Clementine that Disney wants is a ~575 feet section south of Katella that extends into the entrance of Toy Story lot. Disney also wants the removal of the planned extension of Clementine between Katella and Orangewood Ave and extension of Gene Autry Way between Harbor and Haster Street. Both planned extensions are part of the Orange County Master Plan of Arterial Highways Amendment and would dissect the Toy Story lot.
Just a question,, hows the Disney subdivision they were building going?
If you think Bobby Iger is going to deliver what’s promised in the Blue Sky concept drawings intended to excite you and rouse support, you’re delusional. Disney Corp has a recent history of not delivering what’s promised (Galaxy’s Edge, Epcot’s updates and Tiana’s Adventure are examples). And let’s not forget the $1.9B to $2.5B is dispersed over 10 years. How much does that money buy in 2, 5 and 10 years?
And for those who think some exciting new amusement park will be built as seen in the proposal, Disney’s bean counters’ focus will be on hotels and retail for immediate return on investment, not attractions.
If they build a 3rd gate where Toy Story parking is today, it would be significantly smaller than DCA was when it opened in 2001. DCA has an almost nonexistent backstage area, most back of house activities are done over on the Disneyland side. The 3rd park, if built on the Toy Story Lot, would have to support itself and have a larger backstage area compared to DCA.
If a 3rd park happens, it's going to happen in remaining surface parking lots next to the Disneyland Hotel and Pixar Place and Downtown Disney. Building there allows them to continue to share DL and DCA backstage facilities.
Payments in perpetuity…. Someone’s got their eyes on grifting some pocket money.
Feel free to take that on, and be sure to let us know what you find.
FRESHBAKED is DISNEYLAND!!!
Treat, mid day video Disneyland News video!!
why is this mic so quiet?! turn it up please! my volume is maxed for those who want to tell me to turn it up
What if Disney built the new Disney Springs in the toy story lot, and then demoed the current downtown Disney to expand both parks or one park with the hotels inside the park? Could Something Like That work?
Could Disney counter the counter offer with 5million yearly but ask to extend monorail and like Florida later upit with pay for all street maintenance if they can people mover and monorail any where in the city? Sell baseball and add more park!
How about a monorail stop at Condor Flats?
Some context... allegedly based on multiple places I see when I try to look it up - Epic Universe cost $1 billion. The math of "it cost this much for this much space" doesn't necessarily match up. Building one land isn't necessarily the same as doing a whole park at once.
My prediction, and I hope I'm not being too optimistic - third gate in the Toy Story Lot, the money given is a minimum and they will spend more, and it the third gate will be open within a decade at most, probably sooner. Now the question of what's in the third gate? That I have no idea. Hopefully something unique, but we'll see
If they work on 3 areas at the same time especially how construction is fast day and night I could see it happen in 15 years for sure especially if those construction companies are paying their workers with bonuses trust me Disney is not gonna waste time
I wonder if Disney would want to run the monorail or a similar system through Hotel Way and over to the Toy Story Lot area? That would connect the main resort with the Convention Center and the Toy Story area. It could then circle down Clementine Street to the Eastern Gateway garage before heading back over to the Esplanade and then on to the West Side.
The main issue for Disney is regulatory. If the Disneyland monorail has two stops, it is considered a theme park attraction. If it has more than two stops it is considered mass transit and is regulated completely differently. From what I understand this is why the monorail has never added another station.
I think something similar regarding hotel way. But it will not be elevated transportation, I am almost certain. Monorail is too expensive. Gondola has too many obstacles and hotel owners/residents WILL complain about sightlines into their buildings. This happens across North America for projects and could happen here as well. Hotel way is best to connect with the old DCA southern tram route. A controlled intersection or underpass could easily connect the two roads for a tram.
Also worth noting that this would be the best in terms of significant infrastructure to connect properties regardless of what is built. The psychology of transportation comes into play. Regular buses won’t cut it for many reasons.
I think the money for the park itself will be to redo some areas- tomorrowland is....sad, frontierland is forgotten and adventure land is disgustingly cramped and small. So im personally hoping they update and restructure alittle bit. Itd be really cool if they made a cool way to enter the park via those parking areas, I wouldnt ve mad at a new type of tram. I think itll be good, I just hope they wont try to build into "fad" type situations that dont pull through box office-wise, *cough* St*rw*rs *cough* lol....but thats just me 😎
100% agree!!!
TOMORROWLAND!!! C'MON!!!! I'm begging!
DCA expansion first which means more people going to DCA, Pixar Place becomes more popular (price increases) with direct access to the new expansion area.
Disney wanting to take control of Hotel Way makes no sense, unless you know how gondola systems work. They could build a Disney Skyway connecting Toy Story to DCA via Hotel Way and turning at Convention way.
I was wondering that myself
@@wraithkelso It's the only thing that make sense to me. There is enough room for the gondola support towers in the middle of Convention Way, but not on Hotel Way. So Disney would need to control of that street to make it work.
A gondola? Moving through Anaheim? You mean moving target practice for locals. Have you been to Anaheim?
My "worry" would be that after doing "unnecessary" things like the Splash Mountain retheme, or Haunted Mansion queue upgrade, is they may find they went way over budget for projects like that and as a result there is hesitation to spend for quality and innovation and imagination, and instead we get a lot of rehashed generic attractions that are available at any other park across the country like what the original Paradise Pier area of DCA was e.g. Goofy Sky School, Scream Tower (no longer there), Jellyfish drop, Symphony Swings, etc.
Exactly, if they want a third gate, I has to be the best, period. It's not the 90's anymore.
To me, I don’t understand why the Toy Story lot would be considered as an option to build a third park, besides its size. It’s far away from the actual park with hotels and other businesses surrounding it. It makes more sense to turn it into a parking structure, eliminating the proposed parking structures, and also include building a people mover to better shuttle people back and forth along with bus service.
If they were to make the Toy Story lot a Disney springs, would they then convert downtown Disney into an expansion or use it in conjunction with the Simba lot for a 3rd gate?
Disney is falling behind Universal just as predicted 30 years ago. Can't even get a new Tomorrowland in Anaheim and they're worried about some projects not even happening for another 30yrs. Rides breaking down, 3 years to retheme a tree house 5 yrs for tron, while Universal builds and entire park. Even expanding in Hollywood,Las Vegas, Japan, ect. Disney: well maybe we will do this in 30 years. They better watch out. The Disney name is losing its sparkle while Universal out paced them.
Nobody _knows how_ to turn Tomorrowland into a real land of tomorrow.
Can you make a playlist for all Disneyland Forward content? To help keep up with the development 😁
One thing I've been trying to figure out is where all the hotel parking would go -- into the large parking structure?
(Pixar hotel seems to be keeping its garage?)
I’m glad Anaheim going to let Disneyland to have 3 parks question will tickets prices will rise up
I doubt Disney has any specific plans for their potential expansion space. City approval for re-zoning the land must come first. Then Disney must get city approval to build the new parking structure. Only once the structure is built can they start expanding. This process will take years.
Why invest is making specific expansion plans now when consumer tastes in IP and experience will be different once construction can begin?
After hearing this it's going to happen and it's wonderful to see that the project is going to open a lot of doors jobs and the city is going to be happy about it. This is a future I'm sure it's going to happen. This 30 year plan will open a lot of good things just waiting to see.
It's never going to happen. I've also bet money on it not happening. In 30 years Disney will have been broken up by Uncle Sam and that will mean no more Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar in the parks. Like billions will mourn their removal.
Don’t know why the city of Anaheim isn’t playing ball, Disneyland is the only reason that city has any money
Disney just takes longer to plan and build and they keep changing it’s mind. This is same Disney that took 5 years to reimagine EPCOT which only includes one new attraction. 5 years to build Tron. Disney took 3 years because it isn’t as committed as you might think. $2.5 Billion is likely just administration expenses and merely $250 million a year. Each year the budget gets squeezed with inflation. Universal is where the future lies. Disney doesn’t even have a pipeline for new attractions with the implosion of Woke movies that the public clearly rejected.
Crazy that they’re planning a whole 30 years for this, the Disneyland 100th anniversary will be when this is all completed.
30 YEARS!!! No, I'm gonna be too old to enjoy it. That just sucks.
I have a question, are the trams back at Magic Kingdom? I live in Florida and I just wanted to get confirmation.
The two random streets at the convention center seem like a pathway for a transportation system
If Disney is interested in buying Hotel Way, and the new 3rd gate would be at the Toy Story parking lot, could that mean they are thinking about building a monorail route connecting DCA to the new 3rd gate utilizing Hotel Way??
I could have sworn a document I read on the Anaheim city page for Disney Forward mentioned that May has an expected vote.
There are expectations but nothing is schedule
@@FreshBakedDisney thanks for the clarification! Here's hoping one does take place.
Disneyphiles also need to look at what OCTA is proposing for Harbor Boulevard, from Fullerton through Anaheim. Light rail transit (LRT).
They should only expand if they are going to invest more into the products being placed into the retail stores. I don’t want another Downtown Disney that has mugs, clothes, ect.
was waiting for your take on this. Thank You!
So Disney is actually going to foot the bill for the new parking structure on the opposite side of Harbor Blvd.? They made the city pay for Mickey & Friends and has been collecting parking fees ever since. Mickey & Friends has been a zero-investment cash cow since it opened. The revenue from this structure must be staggering since Disney didn't have to actually pay the thing off. It was essentially a "gift" from the city!
Toy Story parking lot needs to be a water park UNDER a climate controlled dome for year round operations. All the other water parks in the area are closed most of the year. Even the Disney World water parks have to close due to inclement weather- cold, thunderstorms, hurricanes, etc.
I would have thought a better long term plan would be to use the existing DD area, Simba and DD parking lots for park expansion and move DD over to Toy Story. Not going to happen now of course but always seemed to make more sense to me UNLESS they are actually planning a 3rd gate after the first 10 year plan happens.
Downtown Disney does incredible business but only because of its location near the entrance to the parks and the Disney hotels. If it was moved to a less convenient location it would become just another GardenWalk. That's why the Toy Story lot must become theme park space. Retail won't work there.
@@kotch35 not even close to true sorry. Disney Springs does much more business than DD, try getting a dinner reservation there and it’s nowhere near any of the parks.
Where is everyone going to park? If they build on all the parking lots. One will have to remain as a large multi story parking structure
The eastern gateway. It's mentioned on the video
Cast memeber parking is on katella behind toy story
If I was Disney, I'd want some type of criteria with giving Anaheim so much money. The City Council would need to be clear what they would spend the money on.
It sure I agree with keeping there property in good order. Are not the rides part of that. They don’t seem to care about the cast or the people that come there? Help me out I am I missing something??
put a third gate at toy story lot and expand the existing DLR west
Anaheim has fought Disney since 1955. Like the university town everyone hates the students but takes their money.
DCA was a meh park until the 2007-2012 expansion and re-imagining, which cost over $1B. $2.5B isn't going very far.
I'll be an old man by the time this is all done, and the new park(s) are open. Heck my 8-month-old will be old by the time this is all said and done. This is a long............................... ways out so I can care less unfortunately. Wish this was done many years ago. David, will you be there on opening day?
ill be dead before any of this is done oh well
What does the map look like when you eliminate downtown Disney and go over Magic way to the simba lots… as you said downtown Disney and Disney springs is redundant. Imagine all the land opened up.
I call those two expansion lots, DLC;

I want frozen land! But yea a few billion isn’t much …
30 years to build an expansion. Disney is playing us for fools. Walt or even Eisner would have this done by Summer 2025
And there will be no expansion, ever. Disneyland needs to stop expanding and start stagnating or shrinking. I wouldn't shed a tear if DCA was torn down and turned back into the Disneyland parking lot.
Keep in mind, with today's costs, Galaxy's Edge would cost 2-3 times as much as it did before the pandemic. So 2 billion today would only buy you one land like that. Realistically, the promised 1.9 billion is probably for the new shopping and dining and hotel district over by the Convention Center. Then they can go ahead and tear down the current Downtown Disney, the Pixar hotel, etc, and build whatever they want on the West Side, which is apparently about 86 acres.
Prices didn't triple even for normal goods, and at this point inflation is very close to what it normally is. For some goods right now there is even "disinflation", like for gas, where prices are falling. Prices didn't stay at the high level they were at two years ago... I think you're being too pessimistic about how much $2.5 billion can buy.
Does the 1 billion price for Galaxy's Edge include Rise of the Resistance? Roughly 1 billion per land with 1 ride, some shopping, and food locations seems doable.
@@orion7763 Construction costs are different than normal inflation, especially in California.
I thought exposition Everest will be there
