    Waited 3 months for the 1/4” 120XP locking flexhead to arrive. Finally got it last Wednesday and right off the get go, the same issue with the locking mechanism. Mine is fine pushing down on the head, but doesn’t hold when the head is flexed back. I got the 1/2” 120 XP flexhead also and the shaft was bent to the left where it flares out to the flat spot. Put it in the press and straightened it back. I won’t be buying anymore Gearwrench products. To many issues with quality control. Thanks for the video!

    The sealed head on the XP is definitely a plus for me. I like the button release and the thicker stem. The downer is the locking mechanism and the price. The 1/4 inch is 54 bucks and the 3/8 inch is over 100. Gearwrench will reach Snap-On prices.

    I'm not gonna lie I have the 120xp locking flex heads in 1/4 and 3/8 drive but the 90 tooth mechanism does feel smoother. Try out the compact head 90 tooth ratchet.

      Apex makes gearwrench, Husky, Sata, etc all to different standards and QC. Even the new Quinn 90 tooth ratchets are made by apex

    From previous experience on à 1/4" flex ratchet if it's not a cheap ratchet, ie my old Snap On non flexhead wasn't as sloppy as that 90.

    Me personally, locking mechanism on 90T or the MATCO one is really hard to operate and hurt my finger so I don't like it. (like playing guitar)

    • @GTTSON

      I agree the matco one sucks, I just quit using the lock altogether because unlocking it pissed me off.

    I just can't love GW ratchets, and I have a lot of 'em. I mostly am moving toward Matco for ratchets. GW sockets have done ok for me though.

      @@madamandmeatball 12 pt sockets are only good for rounding off fasteners...I NEVER use them... go with 6 pt. Tekton and GW are both decent sockets for the money

      @madamandmeatball Před rokem +2

      @@uniquehorn1480 Yeah, but the price was too attractive to not consider. Of course I always owned 6 points, and thought eh. maybe i can get away with it. I'll just end up going tekton. Thanks for the reply back.

      @@uniquehorn1480 Ya, and an allen key sucks for removing a torx fastener, but allens dont suck.
      12 point sockets have a purpose (aside from rounding heads). Taking off 12 point bolts being the main one.

    • @BlazeGelos
      @BlazeGelos Před rokem +1

      12 point sockets for me are the best when working on tight places as you don't have to struggle too much to make the socket seat onto the fastener. it is a rare ocurrence to round a bolt, just see if your socket and your bolt are in good condition. If the torque feels to high then go back to the six point. And don't use twelve point on soft or thin metal.

    Just for shits and giggles. Do you have a 1/4" non flex head GW ratchet? I would like to know what your opinion on it is. Mainly I drill and hand tap about 100 holes a week for electrical panels for heavy machinery, mounting, and also my fair share of mechanical and pneumatic work. I always use a 1/4 ratchet with my Irwin Adj. Tap Socket for anything 1/4-20 or M6 and lower. I had a Husky that was the little train that could and soldiered for almost 15 years and now i'm down to this pretty decent DeWalt 1/4" that I got when I worked for SBD. I retired from my field and work in IT now but I also get asked to bust out a 6'x6' full electrical control panel once a month for a few extra bucks. Also. I never thought I would have to retap holes on the regular when working with mainframes and server centers. Especially when a mount is ripped out and IT doesn't even know how to grind a bracket.
    Those flexes are nice. I can't justify them when I am just using it solely for tapping holes. Yes, I am one of those people. I'll have 4 1/4" ratchets. Each has a different use and function. Good video. And thank you.

      I don't have any non flex head GW ratchets. The ratcheting mechanism should be the same between them. I'd say pick the 90tooth for the lowest back drag.

    I like my locking 120xp and the newer head and handle but the detent ball on the anvil is way to far up towards the end so sockets are hanging way off the end so if your trying to use a stubby socket and get somewhere tight its just adding extra length were the socket doesnt sit against the head of the ratchet
