One of the few changes from the books I actually like. They were like sisters and then they became sworn enemies. What makes it more tragic is that it wasn't even there choice to be enemies it was because of decisions their fathers have forcibly made in their lives.

I love how Emily and Milly (young Alicent and young Rhaenyea) as well as Olivia and Emma (older Alicent and older Rhaenyra) made the conscious decision that these two weren't just friends and they knew it. You can feel it through the screen, they love(d) one another on a deeper level but it couldn't work out because the world wouldn't let them and their circumstances left no room for such sentiments. Neither of them wanted to hurt the other, but they did and in the end they couldn't move past that and talk, they never had the time or the opportune moment nor did they think or try to create the time themselves.
They were definitely gay for each other 😂 even Otto mentioned that Alicent mercy towards rae was because they were “ childhood companions “ and alicent swallowed hard like oooh shit daddy knew… and Rae told her dad once something like “and you think a men will do that for me” talking about making her happy 🫣🤣🤣 don’t shoot me y’all I’m just watching them closely and they definitely had more love for each other than what they were showing 😂😂😂 maybe I have to read the book😮
The script for episode 1 apparently even stated, that there was romantic tension between them, and both the younger and older actors have stated this as well.

Alicent had a choice but she didn't take it. Although I blame Otto for manipulating his daughter to be what she is, Alicent is not really that dumb. She is smart and she has a brain of her own to make decisions. I can't believe she actually thinks her best friend will do something harmful to her family once Rhaenyra ascends to the iron throne. After the friendship, really? You think your bff will kill or harm you? Even if Rhaenyra felt slightly betrayed by her, she won't do harm to Alicent and her children.
Maybe she wouldn't have done any harm to Alicent's children, but if the lords and the realm start to question her claim because of the existance of Alicent's kids, she would have been forced to do something like; it's not improbable.
Well, after Aemond's eye incident, I don't even blame Alicent for being paranoid. Have you seen how Rheanyra actually believed her sons were free from any guilt or punishment while saying her own (now maimed) brother should be "sharply questioned" in another words tortured, for a mere insult? You can't tell me Alicent's doubts were pointless after that
@@lettuce6749 rhaenyra atp was also probably paranoid. so many people and lords, otto, even alicent already antagonized her and her children even before that incident. if she let the insult of her children being bastards to continue freely, either they or harwin could've most definitely died. and with harwin already dead atp, she most likely felt like she was backed into a corner. and what mother would let her son get maimed too anyway? just like how alicent was understandably outraged, rhaenyra's obv not gonna let alicent take luke's eye too.
Alicent is a backstabber, she feels that she had only made the sacrifices, wow must’ve been really difficult to backstab your best friend and fuck her dad and give him a son to rival rhaenyra for the throne. Probably heartbreaking also. And all for what for the king to call her aemma (late wife) who he deeply loved. It’s the power trip and she’s drunk off it and she needs to come down instead of blaming rhaenyra for the sacrifices she had to make.

@@Username-wk7ni first she didn’t lie. Alicent was very specific so was Otto, they said that rhaenyra slept with daemon. She said she didn’t so she was telling the truth.
Secondly Otto was to ambitious, he was like lord Baelish. He wasn’t a good hand, he would and will do everything to achieve want he want: the iron throne in his family.

In my head canon, they either had a secret relationship, their parents found out about it and forbade anything like that officially/publically, or in general, or their parents noticed the affection they had for each other, and talked with them both, either seperately or together about it, and allowed them to be together however they wanted, along as it remained a secret, and only until they came of age, and had to marry. I could see Viserys making that decision, and even if Otto didn’t agree with it, he would respect his king’s decision.
