    you doing such a great Job...max respec! going to watch every Video from you...big up bro ...still have a question fi u in your opinion: which of the 2 drum sets you would prefer for using it in a Reggae Production? DrumDrops - 1970s Rogers Dub Kit or Abbey Road 70s Drummer Library ? and question #2: in your opinion: which of the 2 vst drum plugins you would consider as the better one for using it for Reggae Productions? XLN Audio Addictive Drums or Toontrack EZDrummer 2?

    I just took the liberty of sampling your one-, two-, and even three-finger rimshots, but with reggae being a very personal and sacred thing, I want to make sure it's karmically delicious with you if I use these in my first study in reggae, thus far entitled Am-F-Em-E;Dm/G.

  • @flocore
    @flocore Před 3 lety

    What you're demonstrating is a rim CLICK (or side stick) sound. Rim SHOT is hitting the batter head with the tip of the stick and the rim (or hoop) with the middle part of the stick, at the same time. Using the right terminology is important.

    • @DMKahn
      @DMKahn  Před 3 lety

      You’re right. It’s a side stick not a rim shot. Oh well, the technique is shown.

    It’s a shame there isn’t a non electric separate block of wood or something to replicate the sound. Some sort of cowbell type thing that sounds like a reggae rim shot. I feel it would be less restrictive when playing

    Sorry but you're missing a very important part, jamaican drummer let the hand loose when the stick hits the head. It's almost like they're dropping the stick on the snare. Look at classic reggae videos and you'll see they open and close their hand a LOT, very hard to do.

    • @DMKahn
      @DMKahn  Před 4 lety

      I did talk about the dampening of the head. That’s what they’re doing. Yes it’s hard. I’m only showing the snare in isolation, while the whole kit is played, the player hits toms and cymbals with the same stick of the snare, so they have to go back and forth. So I agree with you, but I also want to say I did show the important part, which is the dampening of the snare head with the palm and/or fingers. Cheers

  • @simian661
    @simian661 Před rokem

    • @simian661
      @simian661 Před rokem

      Rimshot is where you hold the stick normally and hit the rim and skin up to 4 inches in. Rimclick and Rimshot are 2 very different reggae uses of a snare.

    • @DMKahn
      @DMKahn  Před rokem
