Using ryobi door hinge jig to recess door jambs - YES it will do it!

- I watched about a dozen reviews of this jig before I bought and every video had 10’s of comments asking if this could be used for door jambs as well as doors and the answer was no every time. Well, ryobi and Home Depot are wrong. All you need is a scrap piece of lumber and a table or skill saw with a rip fence and you can make perfect door jamb recesses with this tool as well as the perfect door side hinge recess/mortises it was made for.
Genius! Looked everywhere for this answer.
Thanks for this. I go so frustrated looking through Q&A on HD site. A million questions on this and every reply was NO they make a “latch” template for that. ARGH!
Sir, this is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. Thank you so much for posting this!!!
It's people like you who make a difference.
I knew it could be made, but had no idea how. You are a genius. Thanks for sharing.
Not a genius but thank you for the comment.
Do this was exactly what I was needing! You just saved my bacon! Thanks for posting
Bee Mary - I just successfully made this exact jig and I am definitely a novice. If I can do it, anyone can! Thank you!
Thanks. I was trying to work out how to do the door jamb without spending a fortune. Nice one👍
Yes, you are great to improvise the way to use this jig for 'door jamb'. Thanks for sharing your idea.
I just changed the swing of 4 interior doors in my home using a jig based on this video. Thanks a lot!
Good to hear. Glad it’s helping other people get things done.
Great info! Thanks for sharing. You just showed me the easy way to accomplish a very difficult task. Thank you.
I just did this myself. Exactly the same method. Although my pine jig was wider so when I screwed it into the “frame” the holes lined up such that the jamb would cover the holes. Very good work.
This is great, thanks for inventing and sharing
This is just what I’m looking for. Thanks man
Cool idea - thanks for sharing!
Brilliant!
Such an amazing hack.
Dude good idea. I’m definitely doing this right now 🤙🏼🤙🏼
great video thank you for sharing !
Thanks a lot, was wondering how to figure that out with the jig. Glad I can tug along changing 6 doors and installing closet doubles in my new home.
Yep still using mine. I got the ryobi door hinge jig, the door knob jig, and I recently got the door strike plate chisel thing as well. Doing my doors one at a time.
Great! Very good idea thanks for sharing 👍
I appreciate you posting this!
I appreciate you appreciating me lol
Just answered the question I had. Thank you.
Well done 👏
Solved a very annoying problem for me! Thank you!!
Good video,good thinking,good job.Thanks.
Great idea!
Bad ass video brother. No
BS, just quick solutions 🙌💪
I’ve got plenty of BS in my other videos! Lol. This was kind of out of my wheelhouse but I could tell from looking for a solution that a lot of other people were looking for the same solution. So I had to share it when I figured it out.
Excellent! I already have the ryobi jig.
It’s a great tool. Still using mine.
Excellent!
that is great, thank you so much
Awesome 👏 😎
Yea was thinking why is the hinge knuckle out so far but then realized these hinges have an extended depth for putting thicker trim casings around the door. Like a 3/4 inch pine strip for colonial style as an example. Thank for the video brother!
They were all my Home Depot had in the finish to match my other doors at the time I did them. They do stick out but honestly it’s not something you notice unless your staring at them. Either way that’s not the fault of the jig.
Thank you.
Thanks for watching
👍👍
Where is the jamb?
so the next improvise would be to rip a PC of wood the length of the door plus the gap desired at top and make 3 jig cut outs where the hinges will go and do them all at same time
If you had enough identical doors to do, that would save time. For me, there’s no two doors in this 1800’s hand built home that are exactly the same.
It’s a good idea but the offset on your hinges were way off as I’m sure you found out.
Still installed, work fine.
@thasavman how thick was your casing. Mine 3/4" so it looks okay from what I can think it would look like.
Your cut out isn’t wide enough. Your door will have a 10mm gap on the hinge side from door to frame
How do you get a wider cut? I have the same ryobi thing and can't get a wider cut. Gotta find thinner hinges I guess
You could make a jig out of plywood
@@chrisc1216 yeah I attempted that today for the jamb. It didn't go well haha. I don't have a long enough tip, I'll have to get one tomorrow
No it all fit perfect. This door was painted and installed at least 6 months ago.
Drewdoestrucks how your knuckles on the hinge are 10mm off the frame
