    I purchased AC Delco Part 12690512 and installed it. However, the original part that came off the car was 12610560. The parts look alike. I hope they are actually supposed to be interchangeable. I will wait to see if the "permanent code" PO496 actually clears after driving for awhile. About a week later, after a few short trips the "permanent" "Check Engine Light" went out. I guess the problem is solved. My thanks to you for the great video!!!! About a week after my "check engine" light went out a warning came up on my dash that the fuel filler cap should be tightened but when I checked the cap was as tight as it can be. I wonder if this happened because the part that I used was slightly different from the original part - although it looked the same.

    Great instructional video. My purge valve was replaced by the dealership about a year ago and the check engine light is back on with symptoms similar to yours. I was told that they should have replaced the canister by the gas tank. Have you heard that? My car hesitates to start immediately after I get gas and it has even stalled at red lights. It also idles rough at times. Have you heard that it's typical to replace the purge valve and the vapor canister?

    • @JustLearningbyDoing
      @JustLearningbyDoing  Před 7 měsíci +1

      The canister vent valve can fail both closed and open. If it fails open, you will get an evap leak code. If it fails closed, you may damage your fuel tank by it collapsing, because it continuously pulls a vacuum on your tank. I've not had to replace the canister itself, though.

      @@JustLearningbyDoing I think I did get a leak code but does that mean that I have another bad purge valve?

    • @JustLearningbyDoing
      @JustLearningbyDoing  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @Snypersystem186 it could be any number of leaks in the system. The best way to find it would be to use a smoke machine. That may require a shop to do that. You could also buy one or make your own. There are plenty of videos showing that type of check. Good luck.

      A quick searched yielded this information:
      A dual-pulse injection strategy is utilized during engine cold start to reduce the time required to bring the catalytic converter up to operating temperature. This dual-pulse injection strategy lasts for about 60 seconds on cold start.
      This process will cause the customer to see increased black smoke, soot, rough idle, or minimal misfires during cold start and should be considered normal.
      To verify that the dual-pulse injection is causing the roughness or misfires with no codes set, you should watch injector pulse width with the scan tool during the concern. Dual pulse injector pulse width will be nearly double that of normal idle. After 20 seconds the pulse width will drop by about 50% and the engine idle will smooth out. This is considered normal operation and no repairs should be attempted.
      This cold start strategy is enabled upon start up after the engine has soaked for sufficient time such that the catalytic converter requires rapid reactivation.
      The high-pressure fuel pump test will run either as soon as the dual pulse injection is completed, or during the first stop after the engine is warmed up above about 155°F (68°C). This can feel like a slight idle roughness as the high-pressure fuel pump is commanded to max pressure and then shut off to measure pressure decay.
      Note: The use of TOP TIER fuels lessens the rough idle condition effects during dual pulse injection and the fuel pump test by reducing the amount of carbon on valve train components and a more complete combustion leading to cleaner burn. Refer to the latest version of Service Bulletin #05-06-04-022 - TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline and TOP TIER Diesel Fuel Information and Licensed Brands.
      All of these concerns are considered normal and no repair attempts should be made.

    Hi Hello
    A very important question
    They changed spark plugs in my car and as soon as they started the car after the change I started making noises from the purge valve.
    I changed to a new one and I still have a ticking noise from the valve
    What could be the reason?
    What causes the valve to make noises
    Could it be that they changed spark plugs and didn't connect something?
    Because in the Impala, to replace the spark plugs, do you disassemble the intake manifold?

    • @JustLearningbyDoing
      @JustLearningbyDoing  Před rokem

      I would start by looking for a loose connection from the ignition coil pack to the spark plugs. It may be a short to ground from the spark plug to ignition coil that is causing the ticking sounds. You would probably experience poor engine performance as well if that was the case.

      I'd first check to see if it initiated an SES light and check the codes. Those conditions could be a bunch of different issues. I'd say that due to the length of time since changing the sensor, it could be faulty again. Had to say for sure. If you do not have a code reader, almost all auto part stores have a handheld scanner to check your codes. The best part, it is a completely free check.

      What are Permanent Diagnostic Trouble Codes?
      Permanent Diagnostic Trouble Codes (PDTCs) are very similar to regular Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). However, unlike regular DTCs, they cannot be reset by disconnecting the vehicle’s battery or cleared using an On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) scan tool. The only way to clear a PDTC is to fix the underlying problem with the vehicle that originally caused the PDTC and its corresponding DTC to set, and then allow the vehicle sufficient drive time to re-run the monitor that identified the problem in the first place. When the monitor runs without identifying a problem, the PDTC will clear itself.
