I had surgery about 2.5 weeks ago.
Seated passive knee hang - Sitting at the edge of the bed. I have done the other exercises.
Thanks for all the great tips, you're great!

Stairs (eventually).
Found video very simple to follow and helpful. Thank you.
I think most helpful is learning to straighten knee with rubber band.
I'm 75yrs old and replaced my artificial knee after 20yrs. I have a porch swing which is great for range of motion bending my knee. I seldom sit in my swing so i have my coffee and do my exercises. I enjoy swinging on my front porch
Thanks for stopping by to watch and for sharing this tip with us all! That’s actually a great idea!
I had trouble trying to bend my knee to the point of tears during my sessions. The best advice my doctor gave me was to replace my chair with a rocking chair and gently rock whenever I was sitting. After a few weeks, the knee bending improved considerably and my replacement is 20 years old now and still functions very well. It is the no-tears method.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! And I think that’s a fantastic idea how you regained your ability to bend your knee! I’m glad that exercise worked well for you!
@deepattison9329-that is a great idea with the rocking chair. I am now looking for one ready for my surgery. Thank you and bless you for sharing ❤️🙏🌟🙋🏻♀️👏🇬🇧
@@teresaspensley5640 thank you for stopping by to watch!!
Just wondering what kind would be best as I don’t want to fall on the rocking chair and move it and damage my knee more 🥲
Had knee replacement surgery 10 days ago….. That heal slide maneuver is an absolute killer, and where you plant your foot and scooch your butt forward isn’t much better. I’m doing good for extension, but getting bend is extremely painful.
I was looking at my rocking chair earlier today and thinking that might be a good aid. Thanks for confirming my beliefs.
Going to try using a towel/strap on the heal slides to see if they become more manageable.
Thanks for the helpful hints/pointers
Really good...thx so much!!!

My story. Operated on 6 wks ago, week one could'nt do much. on crutches .I was taking Palexia for pain, Endone and Tramadole just were'nt working. Week two.Still on crutches, Total leg swelling increased severely by mid week, had it checked out,and got a clean bill of health. Week 3, I had already stopped all narcotics and started to drive my car, I started my group physio, twice a week ,knee flexion was around 80 - 85 degrees. Week 4. Continued to drive car , I must stipulate, only when I really needed to, due to living alone, And only out of necessity. Physio twice a week and managed to ride stationary bike ,knee flexion 90- 95/100. Only using one crutch at this stage. At week 5, I had stopped using walking aids, Still doing physio twice a week, walking better unaided . I joined a gym so I can have use of leg press and stationery bike on off days to physio, Knee flexion has gone from 95 degrees to 110. I find cycling has helped a lot, along with the use of a thigh high compression stocking as well as using a tens machine to stimulate the quad and calf muscles.
Wow what an incredible recovery and I want to thank you for coming on here and sharing your experience with everyone here! Great job on sticking to the consistency of rehab sessions and it sounds like you’re getting better each week! Wishing you the best in your recovery and I want to thank you for watching this video!!

Im 41 and about 7 weeks post tkr. I wish i had found your video sooner 😢 some of these are really great tips that no one mentioned and would have helped so much. My strength is great in the leg but my range of motion isnt what it should be and still having too much pain.
Thanks for taking the time to watch this video and I’m very glad you found this one helpful! Your kind words are inspiring and don’t be discouraged! There is still a lot of progress you can make even after 7 weeks! Keep up with all your exercises and let me know if there is any other topics related to post TKR that you’d like for me to cover!
Dr. Mike, this video is extremely helpful. The chair movement is brilliant, I will try this today. Today I feel blessed to have seen this channel, I’m inspired and not so down on myself at this point of 1 week, 4 days post op. The hip stretch is extremely helpful as well as I’ve been sore on my right hip. I am grateful. Thank you!

Hi Dr Mike
Just to give you an update on how helpful and effective your exercises truly are: my surgeon was super impressed with my knee flexion and straight leg at my 2 week post op check up, after one week of doing your exercises. I have since started the hospital physio exercises as well but find your key exercises in this video the best by far. Btw, I am finding that by doing the ankle pops at regular intervals throughout the day, my swelling is reduced, if I don’t, it gets worse. I also do the icing and resting legs above heart level, all of which you advise. Thanks again so much for sharing all your skill and knowledge in this video. It is very much appreciated.
Wow this is so fantastic to hear! You are so welcome and I’m glad these exercises were helpful for you. And thank you for the update because it makes me extremely happy to hear how your progress is coming along. That means you’ve really been working hard and your progress shows it! Taking the time to comment and watch means so much to me and I want to say thanks 🙏🏻 Keep up the good work!

Dr. Mike. I just came across your video. I'm trying all your suggestions. I had my TKR Dec 16. Discharged from rehab Dec 28. Started therapy sessions
Jan 3. Did 4 sesions, then I developed sciatica nerve pain. Now its more challenging to do exercises. I had to reschd 2 sessions. I don’t want my knee and muscles to freeze up.
I will continue to watch your videos. Thank you!

Had TKR 2 days ago. I really appreciate your video. This makes more sense than some of the exercises in the book they gave me. For example everything is in the lying position. Sitting up for the straightening exercise makes sense.
Hey I want to say thank you for stopping by to watch and for taking the time to write a comment! The support really does help! I’m glad you found this video applicable for your situation and I hope you get a chance to implement some of these techniques into your recovery! Good teaching
Thank you for watching!!!
Dr Mike. Thank you for the instructional video. Would you suggest these exercises for ACL reconstruction post op?
You’re welcome thanks for stopping by to watch! Comments like this do help a small channel like myself grow! And yes I think they can definitely be helpful especially early on since after an ACL reconstruction the focus is restoring knee rom and quadricep control. In the later stages though exercises will start to look a little different depending on previous activity levels and what your physical therapy goals are! Good luck!
I've had 7 knee surgeries from just a cleanup to an acl replacement to a total knee replacement to a shattered femur right above my fake knee as my last one which was the toughest one to get the movement back. I finally got the movement back with all these plus I rode my Can Am Spyder with my right foot gradually being forced backwards onto the rear passenger pedal. Nothing real hard but just gradually a little at a time. The vibration and leaning back and forth riding the bike was the best thing I ever did for all of my surgeries, it helped that I loved riding the bike but the pain was so much less than PT was.I also bought bike pedal extenders that let me leghthen and shorten the pedal radius for my bicykle that allowed my to gradually shorten the pedal radius while riding my bike as I could not bend it far enuf to ride without this, if I could send pics believe me these 2 tricks were a godsend to get my leg back, without them we could never seem to make any progress past a certain point. I've had so much PT I almost feel like I could work at a PT clinic (7 knee surgeries-2 shoulder surgeries including a rotator cuff and later a total reverse replacement on the same shoulder and a fractured elbow that required a plate and screws and finally a back surgery which was the easiest of them all.
Thank you so much for your support and for taking the time to share your experience here! It sounds like you have a great of amount of experience with rehab and understand the importance of physical therapy after surgery! I am a huge fan of the bicycle for knee rehab and I believe it can offer many benefits in regards to flexibility and strength for the knee. If you haven't done so check out my video on why I love the bike after TKR. I would like to know what you think! czcams.com/video/2C7COHxEXc4/video.htmlsi=AIAuErDhPaWlPVe5
Hi Dr Mike
I came across your channel whilst looking for some help 1 week after a partial knee replacement on outer side of left knee.Your knowledge and skill combined with the insights you give into what the body is going through post op and how the exercises work to help restore mobility and strength have been invaluable. Today is day 9 post op and the improvement in 2 days of doing your exercises is phenomenal. Thank you so very much.
PS the exercise which has been the most helpful so far is the lying down passive knee roll with strap; your suggestion to use the strap to coax the knee flex just a touch further is brilliant. Thanks again.
First off I just wanted to thank you tremendously for taking the time to comment such kind words! As a newer and smaller creator these comments do really help with my growth and I appreciate it so much. 6 wks out from surgery, Stay positive!. Don't believe everything you hear about how well people are recovering or have recovered..It's an individual process. The start of my recovery was a little bit slow,When I started group physio I found I was comparing myself against other people and thinking I was severely behind. After five sessions I am ahead of them in my rehab. People saying they were walking after a day is either very rare or BS!. The takeaway is Don't be hard on yourself ,stay positive, Don't put high expectations on yourself. Remember! any movement is better than no movement. Also I found the use of a thigh high compression stocking worn when sleeping really helped bring down the swelling, along with a Tens machine for muscle stimulation. I wish you well 👍
@@terryjones2012 thanks for sharing your story. I would really love one of the thigh high stocking compression
No PT for a few weeks after surgery. No more pain, then you can do PT. For me pt made my leg worse.

Alright, I did this hip stretch, I have immediate relief. WOW! Thank you.
I’m so happy to hear this one worked out for you! That hip flexor stretch is a must in everyone’s program!! Thanks for watching!!!!
I get groin pain, so perhaps I need the hip stretch! Thanks.
@@nancypadulsky9683 I do them daily. The groin pains are so uncomfortable. That muscle is so weak now. In PT they massage it as well as my quads and hamstrings. When the quads get stronger, the groin pain will decrease, I’ve been told. These stretches help a lot.
I had TKR surgery yesterday and felt I was doing well. I managed to go up and down steps with a crutch, then did exercises. I managed a 70 degree bend but a few hours later I can hardly bend the knee and it's very painful. They say day 2 is when patients say 'what have I done?!' I've been given a cold wrap attached to a portable iced water box to bring down the swelling. I'm sure there will be ups and downs but It is worth the pain in the end. My mother had a new lease on life with her replacement when she was 80. She would march up a 1 in 6 hlll to her house, swim in the pool or sea 3 times a week and walked 3 miles a day. She's my inspiration to fight through the pain, remembering how bad my knees had become.
Wow it seems like your mother was a great inspiration! She was strong and resilient. But yes the beginning may seems tough but it does get better with time! Consistency with the exercise is key! Thanks for watching and sharing with everyone your journey! Wishing you the best and hope you have a smooth recovery! You can do it!
When I had my knees replaced in 2019 I had the surgery five months apart…
I had to do PT twice a day for twelve weeks…
I guess the heel slide helped a lot on getting a 130 degree bend in my knee. I also got the zero extension so I met my goal as a 62 year old Woman. I had to work hard for it but my goal was accomplished.
The hardest exercise was the side leg raise…. That was a bear to push through…
Wow thank you for sharing your journey with us! It sounds like the hard work and consistent effort made a big difference in your recovery! Wishing you the best and thanks for watching!!
Fantastic advice
More please 🙏🏽

My doubt is can i do same exercise with same intence or you suggest different?
Thank you for your kind words and most importantly for watching! In regards to your femur fracture yes 👍 these can be great exercises to restore your knee flexibility! I also use these for all my patients that have fractured their hips because they have to go through a very similar rehab process! The chair one truly works well for me. My operated knee was "stuck" + the sitting on chair, sliding body forward, getting knee to bend more, gave great release and more flexibility!!

Will continue to follow and do exercises you are putting out and hope I see improvements before next surgery. Thank you and God bless
Tons of anxiety

Everyone’s recovery is different but I would say that it’s not abnormal for patients to have back to back surgeries like yourself. In fact some of the patients I see have both knees done at the same time! Lol pretty amazing! If everything is going well as planned I think you’ll be doing better than you expect by Nov 7th. And yes keep an eye out for more of my videos! I’m going to be trying to post more videos in my ‘Surgery Playlist’ for you guys in the next upcoming weeks! You got this Mike!
Thank you so much for this video. My husband is post TKR May 2023, and he still is not quite straightening to zero. His outpatient PT has ended, and he's taken a break from home exercises. But now I'd like to start him doing your sit-up technique with the rolled towel under his ankle. I'm telling him that with enough time doing that exercise once or twice daily, that should get him his last couple of points to zero. Am I right, or is it too late?
Thank you for watching and yes please share these with him! It’s definitely hard to tell when is too late. But the best way for him to restore his motion is daily mobility with the exercises! Those last few degrees to get to zero can be stubborn but he shouldn’t give up. Also take a look at the video I made for those who are past the 2 week mark! I go over some newer exercises that I believe can help him! I’ll link it below! Thank you for watching and supporting! czcams.com/video/vOlS7caH2h0/video.htmlsi=JXtPyqyCDkfQ5D6C
Thank you so much. I am 4 days after tibia plateau surgery with screews and plays in my bone and these exercises almost got me to 75% bend.
Thank you so much for watching! That is great news and I’m so happy to hear you’re making great progress! Wishing you the best in your recovery! Wish you well!!
I had 1st total knee replacement on February 14th, 2024. 6 weeks ago yesterday. 6 week check is tomorrow, and I will be scheduling the left knee replacement. I hope next month. I did pre surgery exercises prior to the surgery faithfully. I have been going to physical therapy 3 days a week for 5 weeks now. I actually got 130° bend 5th week. I also was able to ride stationary bike 8 full minutes at week 4.
3 weeks of high pain levels, but by the 4th week, it felt so much better almost overnight. However, sleep is still difficult. Icing it definitely helps more than I thought it would.
I can't wait to get left side done now. I feel way more prepared and know how to get through the process better, I hope. Lol
Wow this is some positive news! Sounds like you’ve been progressing very well with your rehab and the hard work has paid off! Always makes me happy to hear the improvements people make! Awesome story and thank you for sharing! Wishing you the best on your next upcoming procedure !
Great video, I’ve just had meniscus tear surgery nearly three weeks ago but while he was in my knee he drilled some bone to cause bleeding. I’ve got a lot of swelling and bruising and it’s just knowing how far to push it while the knees so swollen!
Thanks for stopping by to watch and taking the time to comment! Wishing you the best of luck in your recovery! You got this!!
I like your video, am saving for post TKA. One question, is it more difficult for some if they can't straighten their knee prior to a TKA to get it straight after the replacement? I have this issue now. Thank you!
I would say it just depends! Some people go into surgery lacking full knee extension but then are able to regain full range when they come out. My best recommendation is to start working on those knee straightening stretches as often as you can now! I go over a few on my other knee replacement video that I'll post below for you to watch! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment here!czcams.com/video/vOlS7caH2h0/video.htmlsi=dR59-x_2MdbOXi-R
I have been informed that I have a 4 centermeter Blood Clot below my knee.I am experiencing sharp pain on the right side of the knee.
At 4:04 it does not seem you have a bandage (even considering the angle of the camera ). But at 4:14 there is an obvious bandage.
Hi Dr. Mike,
I am a pretty active 60 year old nurse. I had a Total knee replacement on December 21, 2023. I am currently 5 weeks post- op. I’m so excited that I came upon your videos. I feel I’m making progress, and your knee bends with strap at the thigh has really helped with my knee slides. My cold knee bend is at 93 degrees, after PT I was at 99 degrees. I feel my therapist is putting negative feedback that I should be near 100-115. It’s definitely still painful during exercises, but only taking Tylenol. What are your thoughts for knee stiffness?
Thanks,
LaRue
Congratulations on your knee surgery and thank you for stopping by to watch and support the channel! 99 degrees is great and there is always room for improvement! Don’t be hard on yourself just because you can’t meet a specific milestone! Focus on the exercises daily and keep trying various exercises that you can tolerate! Knee stiffness at this point of the recovery is normal and will improve over time as the flexibility improves! Good luck I’ll be rooting for you!
Just curious how you’re doing? I’m in the same position and about 6 weeks post surgery.
Hi Dr. Mike, after my TKR, I have done 20 sessions of physiotherapy, but my knee is not bending beyond 65 degree. It is very stiff and extremely painful even after 3 months post op. My surgeon is recommending McKee knee braces, my physiotherapist recommending Dyna Splint? I don't want any óf this, what do you think, can I improve my bend without these brace and dyna splint?
@@JKHen22 Hi…I’m currently 12 weeks post surgery. Still going to PT twice a week. My knee bend is between 109-117* before and after therapy. Therapist is concentrating on strengthening my quads with knee press machines, etc. My only concern, is pain continues while walking. I still need Tylenol/Motrin about every 6 hrs. I need to get back to nursing, but know way am I ready for 12 hour shifts! Ugh…
This is great. Im 12 weeks from TKR, bilateral. My bend is max 100 at PT. I am continuing the exercise and PT. Os it too late for the bend to improce?
Thanks for stopping by to watch and support the channel! Bilateral TKR is no easy task but I’ve seen many have successful outcomes! Although the first 6-12 weeks are the most important to regain flexibility you CAN still see progress with consistency of your exercises past the 12 week mark. Stay consistent with the therapy daily and focus on pushing your range of motion although to end range with each session! Wishing you the best!!
I am 3 months post op and my extension is around 9...I'm working on it daily, but it's not improving....please help
I like these. I have 110-115 knee flex and almost 0 degree flat, if I work at it. (Still hurts tho, dang it). I never took any pain meds. I just can't see that being good. They had me doing the ankle pumps 15 minutes into the recovery room. Walking at 30 minutes with a walker, and home in two hours. My PT people must have watched your videos. But it is also very good to see them done from someone else. I need to practice the balance more but it is better than before the TKR. Just not as good as I would like yet.
Swelling is almost gone but I should be elevating better. I'll keep watching these and your other videos. Great channel. Much appreciated Dr. Mike
Wow !! 110-115 knee flexion and 0 degrees flat means that you’re making significant progress and I’m so happy to hear this! I appreciate you stopping by to watch and I think you’re right on track! Thank you again for your wonderful comments this all supports my journey! Happy healing!
Is the leg press machine a good machine to help with range of motion?
@@pennieh5575 absolutely this can be a great way to strengthen the quads and improve knee flexion!
mine is may 30th dr hellan is doing mine
Thanks for stopping by to watch! Wishing you the best with your upcoming surgery!!
I'm 5 weeks out and feel like such a failure. When I get up in the morning, it's like I never did a single excersize. I can barely bend my knee or straighten it. I am having such a hard time. Will try your excersizes. My PT is with the surgeons office, and basically, they go by a computer program. 😢 very helpful just do the excersizes for what day you are out from surgery. Will try your excersizes and hopefully they will be better.
Hang in there and stay positive! It’s not just a physical recovery but also a mental recovery! It takes a lot on your mind have to restrict activities for the first couple months and not being able to do the things that you normally want to do. But it DOES GET EASIER! Take the small wins and focus on setting mini goals! Don’t compare yourself to anybody else but your own journey! It’s your story and now here for you to tell! Rooting for you and a fast recovery thanks for watching!
Thank you for these alternate exercises. I just had an MUA and heel slides are a no for me they just don’t work for me. Great video
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed this one!
Did u have to have a mua?
I'm trying to bend my leg, but i can't. I have tendon broken tears grade 2. doctor told me that i don't need surgery it's true?
Thank you this is excellent, very clear instructions and explanations, I’m 2 weeks post TKR my physio is lovely but she tells me what exercises to do but with no explanation of what is actually happening when I do them or the ultimate benefit. It’s a busy NHS clinic so time might be her issue, so it’s great to supplement with your teaching. I’m away to look for your week 2-3 video! My knee is completely straight but knee bend at 87 so bit of work to do - pretty sore at times still blinking hard work all this 😂 but hopefully worth it. Subscribed thank you 🥰
First off I want to just thank you tremendously for the support and the kind comment you left on this video! Your support matters! Reading comments like this remind me why I create videos like this and I’m so glad that it was helpful for you! I’m rooting for a fast and easy recovery for you! Secondly, I have created a ‘Surgery’ playlist that has more videos related to the TKR that you might find helpful. I did actually create a phase 2 video for those who have past the 2 week mark so I’ll go ahead and link this below for you to watch later! Thank you again!! czcams.com/video/vOlS7caH2h0/video.htmlsi=sSCg5SN_xKK66ZyX
@@MovewithDrMike thank you for taking the time, appreciated, I’ll watch that video asap.
Kaiser would not release me from physical therapy until I was at 120 degrees. I am going on 9 months post op, the hardest thing was trusting the knee, always worrying about a bad step forward or back. I started trusting the knee after I stepped in a large divit at a park, didn’t fall and no pain in the knee.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us! Trusting the knee can definitely be challenging especially with a new knee. That’s why I believe balance training can be helpful in building the confidence, coordination and proprioception in the knee again! Thanks again for stopping by to watch!
yes, my chitta vriti (mind chatter) has me feeling like it won't hold me! I need more balance training. Any videos here by Dr. Mike on balancee?
@nancypadulsky9683 thanks for watching and yes I actually do have a few on balance training! I’ll link my favorite below!! 👇
Thanks for watching! Yes I have made a few videos on my favorite exercises for balance! Here they are! 1) czcams.com/video/l5E02UsmpNM/video.htmlsi=u8QO14YbjDAD8w3d 2) czcams.com/video/qX7mGKjVee0/video.htmlsi=Bat7JQ9-3ZcwbbbL
Dr Mike first of all I would like to say thank you so much for making this video. I'm 57 years old and I am 9 days post up right knee complete replacement. The swelling is so bad that whenever I try to do any of these exercises I can only move a little bit. My question... How long do you think the swelling is going to last? Because I feel like if I didn't have all that swelling I would be able to move better. I'm working with and in-house PT for the next two weeks and then I'm looking to go to Helen Hayes rehabilitation near my home for outpatient but I'm so fearful that the new knee is going to form scar tissue because I'm unable to really have much range of motion due to the swelling. I will try some of these exercises, thank you so much...
Thank you 🙏🏻 so much for stopping by to watch and taking the time to comment here! I’m glad you found this video helpful! Swelling after surgery varies from person to person and can last between 3-6 months depending on how much activity you’re doing. It is part of the normal healing process and by only being 9 days out you will likely see improvement in the next 3-4 weeks. Hang in there and take a look at my other video I made on how to manage swelling! I go over various techniques so that many people can find which method works best for them! I’ll link it below for you to watch and I’m wishing you the best in your recovery! czcams.com/video/Pi0xeXfpeQI/video.htmlsi=_eUkkxxFK_GYLUmb
I actually quit going to physical therapy because of the intense pain. I was being subjected to toward knee straightening. The therapists were pressing on my kneecap until I shouted out in extreme pain, after which the quad sets
were extremely painful and brought me to tears, then experienced anxiety in anticipation of my physical therapy appointments, and have been as of today Eight days without any PT appointments t
At the 5 week point TKR which is tomorrow I am watching videos, attempting to find answers and solutions. Thank you for your videos.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to share your experience here! Unfortunately everyone experiences pain very differently but we do know that physical therapy can be extremely important after surgery! I’m wishing you the best of luck!
You need therapy or it can it make things worse down the road. Find a new therapist or do your own but please make sure you are doing them. I know someone who walked in there tippy toes permanently due to failure to get good range of motion
I had the same experience 4 days out, he was way too tough. I changes location and had another pt therapist, they were great!
Ice and elevation helps a lot, Take pain meds half hour prior to physio to reduce the pain level I realise this reply is a month after the event .hope all has gone well
Sitting on a stationary bike pedaling back and forth at the apex and gradually lowering the seat helped.
This is an effective technique as well! Great method!
For me the quad sets were opposite: painful to tears at 6 reps.
Hi Doc. I'm day 12 post op. These are really great. I'm genuinely concerned about straightening my leg but I'll definitely do what you've recommended!
Hey thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Sounds like you still have a good amount of time to make some great progress! Add these into your routine and stay consistent! You can do it! Wishing you the best!
I also am having the worst time straightening my leg. I’m 5 weeks post op. I am working hard in PT and on my own and very discouraged. But this is encouraging.
@@empowerfitness5373 thank you so much for taking the time to watch! I’m glad you found this video informative and encouraging! Wishing you the best!!
Did all the exercises and went through PT but over a year post op and the pain in the joint, especially just above the knee is still considerable as well as some swelling in the second knee replacement. Not sure if this is normal or if it's just me. . . hoping for some advice, direction. It's difficult to get out of a chair or lower myself onto a chair without the pain causing muscle collapse.
Hey thanks for stopping by to watch and for taking the time to comment! Everyone deals with stiffness a little differently and all knees are not the same. Although most people can reduce their stiffness by regular stretching after their surgery some people also benefit from soft tissue massage around the knee joint. I would consider trying out some soft tissue massage and scar mobilizations if you haven’t already tried. This can be extremely helpful with reducing pain over the skin that might be caused by tight fascia/skin and can improve flexibility over the skin. I go over some of my favorites techniques in this video! Wishing you the best ! czcams.com/video/JfNCqbzXrPs/video.htmlsi=8DXimiikPSNJWbG9
Thank you Dr Mike! First video where I really really feel some confidence now. I need some help! I’m 3 1/2 in now from total replacement and still only at 75-80 degrees bend and 6 degrees from being straight. Is this normal or do I need to be more aggressive therapy? Don’t feel like therapy not doing much 3 times a week. Maybe I’m being impatient or leg just improving slow. I’m doing all the new things you showed me on this video and see what happens. Thank you and SUBSCRIBED! Following…..
Hey thanks for subscribing and supporting the channel! It means a lot! And 3.5 weeks out I think that range of motion is pretty good! You definitely want to keep at it though because the first 6 weeks after surgery is the most important for regaining back your range of motion! When it comes to therapy I always tell my patients to let pain be their guide! It will not be comfortable but you want to keep at the exercises daily to maintain flexibility in the knee. I also made a follow up videos for more exercises that you can focus on once you pass the 2 week mark which I believe you will really find helpful! I’ll post the link below so you can check it out and let me know what you think! czcams.com/video/vOlS7caH2h0/video.htmlsi=lP09ECUawF1ASIyc Don’t give up! Stay motivated and consistent ! The results will come!
I’m 14wks out from TRKR. Heel slides produce horrible pain in my hamstrings since 3wks after surgery. They can get me to 120 with manual manipulation. Sitting is uncomfortable to my hamstrings and hamstring curls are uncontrollable also. Been complaining to my physical therapist for the past 10 weeks.
Thank you for stopping by to watch! Hopefully you’ve given the other exercises a try! I find that when heel slides are too painful for people then usually they benefit from the seated options I go over in this video. Wishing you the best of luck!
Hello Im 1 month post ACL meniscuss surgeries and before has 75⁰ flexion, but 2 weeks ago I slip my crutches n fell after I step n feel pain. After that my knee sweeling again n have limitation only 55⁰ with very painfull if I force to bend, is this exercise will work for me?
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment here!It really means a lot! Yes I do believe these exercises can benefit you because as physical therapists we are using very similar exercises like in this program when rehabilitating individuals with post ACL. Consistent stretching and working on your flexibility will be key!
I’m about to have TKR March 2024 I’m 67 but have had bone on bone knees for 7 years was supposed have surgery back the but cam down with cancer. But now in remission doctor says I can get it down but my leg muscles are very small now due to not walking much will they ever come back or what can I do to bring them back I have tried exercising but they just don’t respond
Weight bearing activities are the best for improving bone density and building muscle. This includes all exercises that are performed while standing including walking. The key is to perform exercises that are challenging enough to impose a demand on the muscles! I’ve recently made a video on some of the best exercises to implement prior to knee surgery! I’ll post it below here! Wishing you the best! czcams.com/video/yeIRinybLCM/video.htmlsi=IdapokhoW0vNwg5Q
Yes 2 weeks ago
Thanks for watching! Wishing you the best of luck in your recovery!!
How often should I ice operative knee?
For the first 2-3 weeks I usually recommend icing for 3-5 times per day up to 20-30 minutes at a time with a skin barrier to protect your skin. Then as time passes and you have less swelling and pain you can reduce the frequency of the ice! Thanks for watching!
Dr Mike, are these exercises ok for tibia plateau fracture post op rehab? Thanks
Thanks for watching! Yes these would be very helpful for that type of condition especially since your focus would be improving range of motion and re education on the muscles that support and provide stability for the knee! Wishing you the best!
@@MovewithDrMike ah thank you so much for the prompt response. I’ll start working on these exercises ☺️
Good morning doc i surgery patella fracture tranverse after 3 months of surgery why i cannot bend my knee atleast my knee bending is 20 degree only there is stif swollen in my upper of my patella if i bend i feel tight pain and locked .
Hey thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Often pain and muscle guarding are the most limiting factors after a surgery like this. Unless you’re working on your flexibility daily it can be very easy for your knee to get stiff. My best recommendation is to continue spend more time finding exercises like these that will stretch and help improve the mobility in your knee. Wishing you the best of luck!
Dr Mike I had my left done I trusted. Not as problem my right is awful can’t put any weight on it. And gives. The Dr said is muscle instability. But I did 2 months of pre operative exercises. He said they are asleep. Hope could that be? I been doing the edge exercise and I have a swing pushing back. Now saw your video. I woke up in agony. The nerve block wore out right after I woke up. Was painful pain felt all the bone cuts on my. It brought my ptsd like so fast. This was injured long time ago both knees by a drunk driver. He grabbed me from behind. I think my tendons are way longer and that’s that stretch won’t let me have a tight knee. What do you think. I’m in deep pain and every day returns to be the same one week. I hope I get better. I’m doing a lot of glutes to activate the thigh and it’s hamstring I’d like bubbly gum leg
Thank you for stopping by to watch this video and taking the time to comment to share your experience. Everyones journey and recovery is different so I like to hear from people. As far as your comment about instability and giving out I commonly see this in individuals who have not fully restored the strength in their quadriceps. And its pretty normal for people to have increased pain after the nerve block runs out which is where the pain medications prescribed from your doctor and ice/elevation can really help bring the pain back down. Sounds like your knees have gone through quite a bit of trauma given your previous accident you mentioned but it doesn't mean you can't build them back up. Our bodies are resilient and sometimes they need more time than we think to heal from big surgeries like the one you had. Stay positive and don't give up. Spend time with the exercises each day and listen to the pain since this is a sign/signal that you can use to identify how your body is tolerating everything. I'm rooting for your success and a fast recovery!
Hii dr mike i am facing a issue while flexion actually on the top of knee cap where stiches were there it feels like stretching from incide and it stops me to flexion every time any solution for there a reply would bee appreciate🙏🏻
Thanks for stopping by to watch and taking the time to comment! It sounds like you would greatly benefit from spending some time on scar and incision mobilization! This can really help your flexibility with flexion. Check out the video I made about this here! czcams.com/video/JfNCqbzXrPs/video.htmlsi=ZT7wbNRVJPS3ODlt
