I had a patella fracture on end of February and make a surgery on March after one months of brace......my knee is hardly to bend down.....what should I do? Can I be cure
Thanks for stopping by to watch and supporting the channel! The best thing you could do for a knee that has been braced or immobilized is to focus on daily exercises that will stretch your knee! Many of the exercises in this video will be a good start.
Hmmm. What you are suggesting actually further damaged my knees that I lost the cartilage and ended with bone on bone. Had a complete replacement on one and heading for the 2nd one to be done in about a month. Orthopaedic Surgeon said to me no jumping, running.
Thanks for taking the time to comment and for watching this one! I’m sorry you had a bad experience with any high impact activities. Although everyone’s circumstance and health history is different it’s important to know that there is not one activity alone that can damage your knee cartilage. This usually occurs with wear and tear over time. Now with severe osteoarthritis this activity might aggravate your knees but I have found many ways to modify this for many different populations. The evidence and research clearly shows these activities are critical for bone health and strengthening!
New subscriber. I am two months and 5 weeks post op spinal surgeries.(14 hrs and 2 hrs) Any good words on recovering from back surgery. One leg is still not stable. What questions should I ask concerning therapy. Are all the workers trained?
First off I want to say thank you for subscribing and for supporting the channel it really means a lot! When it comes to recovering from back surgery the 3 words that come to mind are: 1)proper breathing 2)core/hip strengthening and 3)body mechanics are very critical. My best recommendation is to enter therapy with an open mind ready to learn because there will be a lot of new terms and information you’ve probably never heard before! I think highly of the physical therapy profession and believe most are trained very well! You will be in great hands! By the way do you mind me asking where your surgery was located? Maybe I’ll think about creating an upcoming video on exercises after spine surgery? 🤔just a thought
@@MovewithDrMike Thank you for your response. You asked where I had my spine surgery done.. It was at The Danville Spine Center, Danville, Ky. My surgeon was Dr. Knetsche. I am so pleased with him, would highly recommend.
@@Abc-1973 My apologies if I wasn’t clear! I meant to ask where was the location of the surgery so that I can make video specific to this? Neck, mid, low back? Sorry for the confusion
@@MovewithDrMike ok now I understand 😂 The following is what I had done. L2-3, L3-4, L4-5, DLIF L5-S1, ALIF L2,3,4,5,S1 PSF LAMI All this was done 3/19/2024 I hope this helps. I love all the info in your videos.
@@Abc-1973 perfect thank you for this! It’s very helpful and I wish you a fast speedy recovery!!
Thanks for the info! I have question though, I'm a bit overweight and skateboarding is one of my hobbies that includes a lot of iumps and knee movement. Is it healthy for my bones? Or should I try other exercise to strengthen my bones? Thank you!😊
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment! Now I am all about empowering others to engage in activities they love and enjoy but it’s all about risk vs reward. I know skateboarding can lead to a lot of falls and accidents that you can’t control and would likely lead to broken bones. There are safer ways to strengthen your bones that have less of a risk lol! Walking with a weighted vest, resistance training with weights, high impact activities in a controlled environment where you can focus on proper mechanics of landing and stability! Hope this makes sense!!

Thank you so much for your support!!!
I am 32 I had my knee replacement done, but I don’t know why I can’t move my knee is it okay?
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! There are a lot of different factors that could influence why your knee is stiff and doesn’t move. This is why consistency with all the mobility exercises are key to restoring for range of motion back to normal! If you want more instruction on how to do that check out my ‘Surgery’ playlist.
Super helpful. I am 4 weeks out and I wish I would have found your video earlier. Comparing results - yes, I was truly guilty of that and it made it worse. Thank you so much

All the best for it becoming more bearable..I'm at 6 1/2 weeks myself and I found that right at the 6 week mark,.pain and swelling started to get somewhat less. I know not everyone the same, but I hope you find the same. Stay strong!

@RoseBudFC wow you’re too kind and I want you to know I appreciate your comments! I’m happy that you’ve been enjoying the content!
I’m 3 weeks Post Surgery, and doing pretty well. I wasn’t really keen on going out a lot in public with my walker, but about 5 days post surgery, I was frustrated by the nice sunny days, and told my wife let’s head to the store. I found that pushing a shopping cart was a great clandestine substitute for my walker, and was able to put the time in working on my gait. I’ve been hitting the stores about 3 times a week for this purpose. I’m just about right there with ROM, but still have a ways to go to relieve the tension around the joint.
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! Hoping for a speedy recovery! Hang in there!
What to do about partial incontinence after surgery in elderly male?
My husband was told to ALWAYS keep his leg a over his heart which means pillows under the knee often unfortunately.
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! Hope your husbands recovery was smooth and he’s doing well!
I'm a 64 y/o male with LTKR. I'm 6 1/2 wks out from surgery. My flexion is at 113°. I'm walking 1.5-2 miles twice a day. Too much. Leg is swollen still but is improving. Knee only seems painful at night in bed. Thanks so much for your videos. Great help!!
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment here! I greatly appreciate this!!
Thanks for the suggestion. Do you put the tape on both sides of the knee or just the outer as shown?
Thanks for stopping by to watch and support the channel! I would recommend using it on both sides of the knee to address the swelling in the entire leg!
I'm 75yrs old and replaced my artificial knee after 20yrs. I have a porch swing which is great for range of motion bending my knee. I seldom sit in my swing so i have my coffee and do my exercises. I enjoy swinging on my front porch
Thanks for stopping by to watch and for sharing this tip with us all! That’s actually a great idea!
Thank you Dr. I'm 3 months after my right TKR. Thank you for the information and advice. Will surely follow and I'm recovering really well. 🤞🏻
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I’m so glad you found this video helpful and I’m wishing you the best! Take care!
Hi Dr. Mike, I’m most two months post knee replacement and dealing with a lot of inflammation and swelling still. Would you recommend trying this taping method this long after replacement? I am on new round of anti inflammatories and would prefer it to be taking an Rx.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I do think this taping method can aid in a patient’s recovery even after 2-3 months post op! Try it out and let me know how it goes! Wishing you a fast recovery!
Just what I was looking for. My back and knees kept me from my garden the last few years. My goal is to get back in there I need to know how not to hurt myself as soon as I start back. What skills should I be working on to be able to move the kneeling pad quickly so I don't stretch too much?
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! I’m glad you found this video helpful! I would say the most important tips to prevent yourself from over reaching while gardening is to ensure that you position your body in front of your project or activity and focus on staying as close as possible! It’s not that rotation of the spine is horrible or damaging. It’s when people do this over and over without using good body mechanics how injuries happen. Hope that helps!
I’m considering knee replacement surgery and see there are lots of negative videos complaining about how they are suffering with pain long afterwards. I appreciate your suggestions and feel like there’s some pitfalls that can be avoided 👍
Thanks for taking the time to watch this video and for commenting! Although many people are very frightened by this procedure I know many others that have had great success with the recovery!! Wishing you the best!
The stocking I'm having to wear makes sleep impossible it's cutting into the Swollen knee never again 😢
One of the best things I did for my recovery was to get a cheap skateboard for improving my ROM. You sit on a chair and place your operated foot on the skateboard and work it backwards underneath the chair you can use your non operated foot to help push the skateboard so the operated knee bends more if you can tolerate it. Take your recovery slowly and at your own pace as I appreciate not everyone has the same tolerance to pain. Regards sleeping it’s very difficult I had many sleepless nights but try breathing exercises to help calm yourself you probably won’t sleep still and I found a pillow between the knees helped with sleep. I’m nearly two years in now and I’m getting there but it can be a long road to recovery keep persevering and good luck.
Thanks for stopping by to watch and for sharing this exercise with everyone! Ive seen many of my patients do the exact same thing and they had a lot of success with such a simple set up at home! Whatever works on your ROM! Great job! Wishing you the best
@@MovewithDrMike excellent advice in the video and thank you 👍
Both knees are bad from arthritus and need replaced. I have a Very low pain tolarance and if it gets bad enough I have a panic attack. I know, I am a wuss, there is no telling me to suck it up, does not work that way. I am really scared to try it, but also do not want to end up in a wheelchair.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Hope you found this video informative!!
Nice video thanks
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I appreciate it!
Can you please explain exactly what you a are doing, pressing, flexing? Otherwise someone could hurt their backs worse. Are you pressing your knees into the palms of your hands?
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! So with your knees up to a 90 degree angle you’re going to place your hands over the top of your knees. Take a deep breath in through your nose and exhale slowly. Press your hands into your knees while you attempt to lift your knees up towards your chest. There should be minimal movement. Focus on holding for 15-20 seconds for 4-5 times 2-3 daily. This may not look like much but this can be a great way to activate your deep core muscles which as a result can relax tight painful low back muscles. If it’s too difficult to lift your feet off the ground as shown, you can also perform the same exercise with your feet & calves resting on a box. Hope this helps!
Thats good news! Hope i feel same soon but still very early days for me
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the support!
I've had two partial medial compartment knee replacements. In general, will this sort of exercise be harmful to those replacements, or should I be doing something else in its place?
Hey thanks for stopping by to watch and comment! That’s a great question and I’d probably recommend to hold this exercise if you’re someone that has had any type of knee surgery in the last 6-8 months. Since any high impact activity can increase your pain or swelling. If you’re past the 8 month window and you have minimal pain then yes I would say it would be appropriate to begin incorporating this exercise starting off with a very small height box and getting comfortable landing with good stability. Also consider using hand assistance in the beginning to first learn the exercise. You’re going to notice this will challenge your balance and coordination! Hope that helps!

Curious if it matters if the head is lifted or not for this exercise?
Thanks for stopping by to watch and for taking the time to comment! From my experience a slight chin tuck and lifting the head slightly off the ground does seem to make it easier to activate the upper core muscles. Hope that helps!

Had knee replacement two years ago, I still have a tight feeling in my knee. Had a x-ray and ultrasound, surgeon says there is nothing wrong with the replacement. Is there anything I can do for the tight feeling.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment here! My best recommendation for tightness is the following: continue to work on your knee flexibility with stretches that take your knee to end range (if you don’t know how check out the videos on my channel that go over this, I’ll link one below), try utilizing a heat pack before exercise sessions to improve blood flow and warm up the tissue, add in myofacial release techniques to break up any scar tissue and improve any fascia restrictions!! Hope this helps! czcams.com/video/X1IKepSl0fw/video.htmlsi=ioNnso3KM_TwMYM9

Thank you, this is a great video. I have had both knees replaced and these are the best exercise I have come across and give me the best progress to mobility.
Thanks for stopping by to watch and for taking the time to comment such kind words! I really appreciate your support and glad you enjoyed this one!!
Now I'm confused....just watched a different PT talking about not walking "Heel Toe" but using the forefoot.....HELP! I'm trying to get back mobility and walking without a "hitch" , rolled my ankle and really pulled my Achilles tendon. Swelling has stopped but ankle tendons are really tight from lack of correct use.
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! I would say that the normal walking (gait) cycle includes a person contacting the ground with their heel first! Then as most of their weight shifts to that side the weight transitions from the mid foot and eventually forefoot during push off! Some therapists may recommend temporarily applying pressure through the forefoot to minimize impact especially on a painful joint but the correct and most efficient way is through the heel.
@@MovewithDrMike I did spend time flexing my ankle….toes up and toes pointed then just walked across the room heal-toe heal toe feels much better to to push off with the forefoot! Now I need to rewatch the video on gardening stretches since the garden is where the ankle roll happened 🧐
@@cherylschumacher1832 That’s a good point! Protect those ankles and feet! I’ll be making a video on foot and exercises within the next week! I think it will be very good for you!! Thanks again for watching!
Can you use crutches after knee replacement?
