    Well, this doesn't look like a super upgrade to me. I was trying to use my mamba x in a crawler. in 2024 this is a very inconvenient esc. You need to seal a bunch of connectors, the power button is terrible, the touch wire is from the 2000s. The situation is absolutely exactly the same here...Castle did not update the design of the sensor wire (as Hobbying did), the old fans and the power button, oh.. but it looks good in appearance. However, the issue of price is very ambiguous for me; there are competitors on the market that are more convenient to use, IMO...
    Anyway, thank you for the review! Love your videos;)

    The reverse to forward brake has been a feature on traxxas escs for a very long time. Since the first vxl 6s at least. It’s one of the things I hate the most about HW escs. Of my bashers 4/6 still use VXLs because of that feature. Also the much better LVC warning. HW escs don’t provide nearly enough warning for me.

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před měsícem +2

      Yeah they do have it but it's not adjustable which I think is a really big benefit of this ESC. Pretty much all of the features on it are customizable and I'm finding I appreciate that more and more.
      Have you turned up the LVC on your hobbywing ESCs?

    • @FrifjellDrivesRC
      @FrifjellDrivesRC Před měsícem +1

      Are you guys talking about braking when driving forward and when reaching almost a standstill the ESC just changes into reverse? I see this behaviour on my little 16BL30 from HW and it annoys me a ton. I feel I cannot get used to it :-(

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před měsícem +1

      @@FrifjellDrivesRC no. This is referring to when you're in reverse and you hit forward some ESCs will just immediately go into forward instead of initiating a braking sequence like it does in reverse.
      It sounds like you don't have forward reverse brake turned on with your 16BL30. I believe with forward reverse brakes selected any of the hobbywing ESCs should just come to a stop when you hit the brakes instead of immediately going into reverse.

    • @ninthislandrc
      @ninthislandrc Před měsícem +1

      It's definitely NOT the same as what's in the Traxxas ESCs. From what I'm understanding, with the Cobra10, is programmable...the Traxxas is not. The best comparison I can think of would be the ESCs in the Kyosho Mini-Z MR-03 EVO & MR-04 EVO, both of which have a programmable "time out" between reverse & forward.

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před měsícem +2

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před měsícem +1

      I'm not sure but I will say that the current capability of the BEC is almost just as important as the voltage and the BECs in the castle ESCs are pretty powerful. I've never really missed the extra half volt. Also keep in mind that 8 volts to 8.4 volts is only a 5% difference.

    Interesting that it’s 6s! When you started talking about using an xt90 around the 2 minute mark, it reminded me to ask you for some advice on what connectors to use depending on the amount of cells and amps. I want to to switch to a single type of connector on all my cars, and I was thinking I might use IC5 and EC5 on all my vehicles 1/10 and 1/8, because those are relatively good plugs and it would mean I don’t have to void Horizon warranties. Then, I would use xt60s on everything sub 1/10 scale. I’m only worried that since I’m running 3s and 60a+ escs on the smaller cars, a 60a connector might prevent me from getting all the power available. Thoughts?

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před měsícem +1

      As long as the ESC is around 60 amps running an XT60 probably isn't going to be a problem as they can definitely handle higher burst current and it's very unlikely that you'd be pulling the full 60 amps all the time anyway.

      There's no denying it's expensive.

    Not good for crawlers, im a noob and can see this not working for me. Why you ask? 2in1 is the future honestly. Good luck with the crawler community.

      Maybe though this has been tested by quite a few different crawlers and anything to like it.

    No, i shouldn't buy it: I can't put another mortgage on my house.

      They definitely aren't cheap.

    $10 MORE, and objectively inferior to a Mamba X? No thanks.

      No telemetry with the Cobra 10, heavier than a Mamba X, not ROAR certified (if that matters to you) smaller fan than a Mamba X… I’d rather a Mamba X 10 times out of 10

      When you say no telemetry what exactly are you referring to?
      As far as the smaller fan these things are really efficient and it's really all the fan it needs. I did a full pack of bashing in grass in a buggy that was too heavy on 6S and it only reached about 156° f.

      @@DoRC castle telemetry is accessed through Spektrum XBus (need a dx5 of some kind with a SR6100 receiver) or Futaba SBus (never tried it)
      Admittedly there are a few slick features that I like. Mounting screw holes on the underside is clutch. Hill Hold for crawling is HUGE though so I’ll give it that.

      @@PigglyWigglyDeluxe oh ok. Yeah I looked it up after asking I wasn't even aware of that existed. I'm sure they will come up with a 32-bit version of the same type of connection at some point. That's not really a shortcoming of the ESC that's just an incompatibility between the new 32-bit systems and their previous 8-bit telemetry setup.
      Overall I think this is a pretty solid update and yeah the hill hold thing is pretty neat!

      @@DoRC the XBus stuff is super neat but admittedly quite expensive to get the harness. It’ll give you real time motor speed, motor temp, amp draw, XYZ accelerometer data, G forces, battery voltage, ESC temp, all sorts of stuff.
      How much does that matter? Eh, probably to 3 people. I hardly use it anymore either, I spend more time with my eyes on my truck and surroundings, and never on the radio screen, especially for real time data.
