I didn't know David Sanborn was stricken with Prostate Cancer because, I've never kept up with his personal life. I've only heard some of his music. Prostate Cancer is curable, if it's detected early and has not progressed and spread outside of the prostate gland to the lymph nodes. That's why it's extremely imperative for men to get annual examinations with their Urologist, if any symptoms arise. I am also a Prostate Cancer survivor! I underwent a Radical Prostatectomy 12 years ago, and still cancer free. I give all the thanks, praise and glory to God because He's, our Healer.

Good grief, he died. He didn’t do anything wrong. To everyone who was diagnosed, treated and is still living despite having had a prostate cancer dx, great! But to sound off as if this gentleman missed an opportunity for survival is most undignified. FYI, and I don’t know what form he had, but ductal prostate cancer, an aggressive form, doesn’t lend itself to early detection.

Two notes in, you knew you were listening to David Sanborn. In my decades of loving jazz, to me, there have only been a handful of artists that were so quickly recognizable. He brought his own style of playing onto the stage, yet he fit in with every other musician. If you can see episodes of his groundbreaking musical series -- Sunday Night Music or Night Music. You'll experience the range of his talent. The guests might include Muddy Waters,Procol Harum, and one or two more. He'd play with each guest and the finale was always a jam of all the musicians of that night. David was the glue and the sprit that held it all together. We are blessed to have his personal and musical legacy survive his and our brief tenure on this challenging planet. Thanks David for sharing your heart with us.

David Sanborn was pivotal to me falling in love with smooth jazz. I have been listening to Maputo with Bob James and Chicago song since I was a teenager. Sorry to hear of his passing. Play on David, Play on.

David's gift on the Saxophone was extraordinary. His rendition of "Everything Must Change" from his Pearl album. It's myy favorite song that comforts me to realize change must come. I enjoyed his music always. I will miss you David. Rest in Peace, but keep playing!

Anyone can learn how to play the saxophone, but to be able to produce the sound like David Sanborn, anyone cannot do it. He was given the gift from God to produce that bright brilliant sound from the alto saxophone. There are alot of alto saxophone players out there. But none of them have that unique sound like David Sanborn. There will never be another alto sax player like David Sanborn. May he RIP🙏

David Sanborn was really the first saxophonist I heard who reached my 15-year-old ears in a way that was honest and sincere. I admired him for the fact that he was clear about who he was and what his audience appreciated. But I respected him for how he paid homage to his influences. He always talked about David “Fathead” Newman. His playing was decorous without being gimmicky. I’m going to miss him. It’s hard to think of him as a 78-year old and news of his death has hit me hard.

I was saddened to hear of his transition. He was such a versatile and humble musician who was willing to play with anyone. Straight to the Heart and Voyeur were my favorites and the Dream carried me through rough times.😢 Thank you Mr. Sanborn. Rest in peace, my brother. We will miss you .❤❤❤.❤❤

"Chicago Song" was my introduction to this phenomenonal saxophonist when I moved to Florida in 1995, two years after my cousin introduced me to the genre of both traditional and contemporary smooth jazz. Always loved David Sanborn's music. RIP Mr. Sanborn. 🎷🎶🕊

RIP David. After moving to NYC, I was introduced to his music by a friend who just bought Promise Me the Moon. I couldn’t get enough of it and became a lifelong fan. Along with Tom Scott, David introduced me to jazz sax and its long history of master horn blowers. What an education! What a journey! Forever grateful to this awesome musician and beautiful human being.🙏🏼❤
