- In this episode of "Craig Houston Talks To...", we're joined by a very special guest - 'Sandy Chugg.' Sandy is not only a renowned author but also a well-known figure in the football world, having been a key member of the notorious ICF (Inter City Firm) during the 1980’s to 2000’s
In this candid and insightful conversation, Craig delves into Sandy's fascinating life story, exploring his early days as a fanatical Rangers supporter and his experiences with the ICF. Sandy shares his memories of the infamous hooliganism that plagued football in those days, as well as his thoughts on how the game has changed over the years.
Absolutely brilliant just watched part 1 Sandy top man , spoke to him a few times at fitbaw.Great stories
Cheers Billy.
Brilliant guys ,thanks 👍💙🇬🇧
Glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant interview. Live Sandy to bits. Proud to call him a friend ❤️🩹💙❤️🩹
Thanks Liz. Hope you’re well.
Good to hear Sandy and yourself again Craig. All the best
Many thanks mate
Sandy loved his team and his mob, no one can deny he's legend up here in the scene and of course he will have differing views from other teams about incidents etc, every mob is the same and all will have their own memories of days gone by and who done what etc, etc. Had some good banter with him down the years and i know he has had his own personal struggles down the years and i hope he pulls through them all and get's back on track, regards from up North 🙂
Respect.
What a great interview and a real
Take on the culture of the 80s + legend

Brilliant pod. Sandy is Great talker and gripped me 4 minutes in
Good lad.
Excellent show, Craig, spent many a time with Sandy, it was like reliving some of those days 😂.
How do you think I felt lol
@@CraigHoustonTalksTo worse thing about it was I knew exactly everything he was talking about, telling the screen the years when he was getting a bit mixed up :) He's a good lad, he would never let you walk past without having a few words to say, even if he hadn't seen you for a long time.
Great interview mate👍I stayed in bluevale street flats …everything he’s talking about is bringing back good memories 😂👍
Superb
excellent interview, very interesting to listen to him growing up in that area, no choice but to really fight every day for survival, having fuck all and having to steal to get the best stuff, loved the honesty at even going to the piggery for years as it was on his doorstep and how he ended up at Ibrox because of the message coming from their terraces about Britain etc. Admitting how good other firms were including the statement about Celtic running the town until Rangers got organised.
I have read Sandy's book and it's a good read but not thick enough so it was good to hear more, and let's be honest the guys down south get all the limelight, they are on everything from podcasts to films being made about them to the main books, yer Carlton Leach, Cass Pennant, Jason Marriner, One Eyed Baz etc, so it's good when it's a bit left field, seen Ginger Bob and Bill Gardner on James English which was good cos they don't do a lot of interviews and there's a welsh podcast that's had Cardiff city boys like Annis on and the nomad hooligan, cant mind his name but well known at Newport and then spent 30 odd years travelling the world, but similar to you theyve also had Craig Bellamy on and Welsh rugby players etc
To be honest I got a bit sick listening to the same stories but I like a podcast that has people from all walks of life and polar opposites so don't listen to people bitching about you having Sandy on, why wouldn't you?, he has a good story, the ICF are a well-known name, the Scottish element of the casual scene hasn't been covered enough even though it was huge and the way these guys dressed is still seen at every ground in the country. Not enough people take risks to have someone like this on, we can learn from him. I love James English podcast, I wasn't too sure about him as a person but he's found his style and its nothing really to do with him now, he's not trying to be the star of the show anymore and he always takes it back so you hear about the peoples life's, If you invited Sandy on here and it was just about fighting at this game or jailed for this it would be boring, but you were getting at the WHY, the root cause of what caused him, and countless other guys to get involved in football violence.
The fact the James gets policemen on one week, gangsters on the next, an award-winning actor on then a porn star, someone who done 40 years in the jail to a prison warden, a football hooligan then a guy who went undercover to try and break up the firms makes it so interesting cos then you see every point of view. Anyway wasn't gonna comment but it annoys me when folk moan at who you have interviewed, don't watch it then! and to say you are glamourising it, they obviously haven't watched it, Sandy isn't even glamourising it, he's just telling his story, which has violence in it, there is some laughs along the way and probably some good memories but just like someone in recovery sharing their message in AA or NA etc, they tell their story, the good times, the why and how, then the rock bottoms, the people who were hurt, the wasted years, the regret and then how things have changed and the good they are now doing. They aren't glamourising drink or drugs, but the experience must be discussed to learn from it. Anyway, sorry for the spraff but you've gained a sub
Thanks Mark. I appreciate your support, feedback and time taken to do both.
Fuck sake Shorty. Write a book why don't ye 😅

Great mob indeed, remember Boro at Spurs when you first came up early 90s into the Prem league, small tight mob of about 70 that Spurs couldn't budge on the high road after the game in the dark, big units in the Boro, must have been the ICI chemicals in the atmosphere down the years, lol Regards from up North 🙂

Shite in the 80s tbh too many ahitbags but found Specky Sid Mcgurk Towell rip were up for it latter fought AUF when living in St Andrews etc all ICF loved it 30 v Dundee under 5s well up for it GREAT DAYS
I remember he was a part of joined firm with Hibs/Hearts. And they had a bit ding dong with the Aberdeen lads. They turned up at Tynecastle, a semi-final i think between Aberdeen & Dundee United and started slashing any Aberdeen fan they could after the game, very nasty and cowardly, a lot of innocents got cut. Not saying this lad was involved that night, but he certainly was involved with the SNF i think they were called.
Doesn’t sound like his style tbh
He talks about this incident in his book. Claims he never took part in the actual slashings and condones it. He goes on about smashing the Aberdeen lads bus windows instead. I dont remember the buses getting smashed, but I do remember walking down the road, where the old main stand was after coming out the Roseburn and aberdeens fans had been stripped accross the face. One particular dad with his kids screaming holding onto his legs, while his face was gushing blood. It was indeed cowardly. This was before Bordeaux farce, so Chugg still hung around with the ones who did it, he has to live with it I suppose. They never caught them for it either, i suppose the police knew who was involved, but had no proof.
@@0Davie0
Aye iv'e no read his book, might do if it's cheap enough, but i find these hooly books a bit meh, repetitive. Podcast is ok i suppose.
The game a semi, i remember Windass scoring, but we still got beat. I did watch more of the podcast and he does mention the SNF and some of their capers. That night at Tynecastle was just a liberty, violent thugs with no empathy, running about the crowds slashing anyone with their Stanley's, pathetic. But these types always end up pissing off the wrong people eventually.
@@CraigHoustonTalksTo It's not and it didn't happen as described here.
That's not what happened that night, yes sadly a female Aberdeen fan got slashed down her back but it was from a Hibs lad not Rangers and it was done down at the busses where it kicked off between the SNF and the ASC, it wasn't a case of them just running into normal Aberdeen fans and slashing loads. Things like this get exaggerated down the years and the stories just grow arms and legs.
Yeh once had a deep fried Mars bar chucked at me ,,obviously one of his five a day ,

Two great interviews with Paul Murray and Gordon Smith, but what possessed you to glamourise football hooliganism and selling drugs.
This might affect future guests coming on ,an otherwise great series ......
I’m not glamourising anything. I’ve interviewed a guest with a colourful past. I don’t see anything glamourising anything if I’m honest. I want a varied range of stories and characters on the show to tell their stories. My guests will continue to be varied
