@@360_gangsterelite2 You are right about the founding fathers. They were smart enough to not have a complete democracy. Many keep calling the U.S a democracy, but the U.S is not a democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic. The founding fathers used and incorporated a lot of democratic notions into the Constitution, but the core of the Constitution is a Republic form of government. Democracy is where every citizen votes for everything in the country’s government, like laws, leaders, etc. The people have a direct impact on everything to do with their government. While a Republic has the people vote for a Representative to speak for them in the government. They do not have a direct control, but rather an indirect control of the government. That is the main difference between Democracy and a Republic. Direct vs Indirect. The founding fathers even believed that a full democracy was corrupt, so they choose to incorporate democracy into our Constitutional Republic. As Benjamin Franklin said when asked what form of government they had made: “A republic, if you can keep it.” Kinda a pet peeve of mine, as a history major, when people call, or use the U.S. as an example of, a democracy when it isn’t. Many of the criticisms of Churchill are based on subjective reasoning and do not take accepted attitudes of the era into account.
Churchill is accused of being a racist.
What is ignored is the fact that racism was rife in the world during that era and even a person like Ghandi was guilty of it.
Ghandi was known to have disliked South African blacks and is on record as having said that they were inferior to other races.
Those who accuse Churchill of racism without simultaneously accusing Ghandi are therefore being hypocritical.
Times obviously changed and it is not now tolerated but trying to judge and condemn people who lived in a different era under different circumstances is, in most instances, a futile exercise that achieves nothing.
Famine in India was not caused by Churchill. It was caused by overpopulation versus the amount of available food and the availability of food is, and always has been, a factor of Mother Nature’s whims.
