Can PRS still innovate and surprise us?!
You bet they can! Today we celebrate the launch of the @prsguitars PRS SE NF3.
Markus is joined by special guest @AlexHaddonOfficial (Live performing guitarist / singer and recording artist) to unbox the first of these new guitars to arrive at Maar's Music.
Our video features the out of the box factory setup and guitar audio was recorded directly with a Shure 545D dynamic microphone into an @ArturiaOfficial MiniFuse 2 audio interface (no additional EQ or compression) -- Alex played the PRS SE NF3 in Ice Blue Metallic with Rosewood board with settings he dialled into a PRS Sonzera 20 1x12 tube amp (using both channels in the demo).
PRS SE series guitars are some of our favourites at Maar's Music -- excellent workmanship, quality control, curb appeal, along with quality hardware, excellent playability and flexible tone potential -- we like to think of them as some of the best guitars in their price range (and often feeling similar to much more expensive instruments).
This new model brings another excellent PRS SE instrument, with a versatile sound and great feel, to the intermediate (and beyond) guitar player. There are plenty of pro level players using PRS SE models -- often with stock pickups -- a rare compliment for instruments of this price.
Well done PRS Guitar! (Paul Reed Smith can be proud of this one)
We take guitars seriously -- and nothing is better than a great instrument that's easy to play and with inspiring sound.
This PRS SE guitar (and many other fine Paul Reed Smith Guitars) are available at www.maarsmusic.com and in person!
We hope you'll enjoy the unboxing experience as much as we did sharing it with you -- life's too short to take oneself too seriously all the time -- we love making music and having fun at the store!
Maar's Music is a family owned, locally staffed music store located in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. We've been providing great tips, advice, gear and service for over 30 years.
The PRS SE NF3 is a distinct guitar in the PRS lineup. The heart of this guitar is a trio of PRS Narrowfield pickups, a first for the SE Series.
Supporting these pickups is a poplar body, 22-fret bolt-on maple neck, and the choice of either a rosewood or maple fretboard. The SE NF3 is a versatile workhorse guitar that is fun to play and hard to put down.
The Narrowfield DD (Deep Dish) “S” pickups are made with taller bobbins to fit more winds and extra metal pieces in between the magnets for a more focused, powerful tone. Anchored with PRS’s patented tremolo, this guitar can bend and flutter with ease. - Hudba
When I come around~~~
Great job guys.. i'm exited to come check this one out.
Thank you kindly -- looking forward to putting one into your hands!
I liked the fact that you guy's did gain and power chords in this demo. I love PRS guitars and strats, so this interests me. That said, i don't think I like that amps dirty channel. Good demo though
Thank you kindly! The idea was to have a demo that would be simple to reproduce (simple mic, amp and guitar signal chain) -- having said that, the Sonzera 20 dirty channel isn't getting much love :( here!!!
Billy Corgan came to my mind too. I reckon this could do pumpkin tones very easily.
Great minds think alike! Thanks for writing and watching -- it's a pretty sweet guitar
What song was that riff from ?
@@greglegge3389 Which one?
@@greglegge3389 Which one -- the clean or distorted riff?
Distorted riffs. I believe it was when I come around, Green Day.
I don't mind that it's darker than a SSS, bt the string clarity and separation seemed a little muddled
We're working on our next video - NF vs. Silver Sky vs. Player Strat (fair in terms of price comparison)
Sounds dark to me. I like the silver sky better.
It's definitely darker than your typical S style guitar and the tone controls have a lot of range. Does it ever get really bright? Maybe not, but strings and pick choice alone can make a difference here too.
Maybe an SE - S Style shootout is in order:
NF3 vs. Silver Sky
@@maarsmusicYes, please do a comparison video!
@@michaelnugent9758 it's a plan -- at the very least with the SE Silver Sky, but maybe also the US made one!
@maarsmusic Cool - looking forward to it! It's a toss up between this and the SS SE for me, ATM
It’s a nice looking and I’m sure nice playing guitar but after watching several videos on this guitar none of them sound good.
Gear is so subjective. People make the silver sky sound good but I didn't like it when I owned it. Probably because the mayer specs to the neck and the single coils had the bright thin sound like other ones do. The only single coil like pickups I've liked were the duckbucker set whatever they were which were like mini humbuckers so this guitar appeals to me. I'll probably try it out eventually.
@@kingofkong90 Yeah I just found out my local shop has gotten a few of these in. So I’ll get to try it in person before buying.
Thanks for watching and writing! What's your usual preference when it comes to electric models and pickups?
Positions 2 and 4 land in the Stratocaster tone spectrum (albeit without the single coil hum) and 1, 3 & 5 kind of bring to mind a hum-less P90 style pickup to our ears....
@@kingofkong90 Try it out for yourself -- that's always the key! The NF3 offers a lot of sound per dollar and pickup positions 1,3 & 5 have their own vibe (where 2 & 4 are decidedly more Stratocaster like).
Thanks for watching & commenting
@@BkBk-gy6vr Always the best policy when possible! Looking forward to reading about your experience
Dont like it at all...
Because of the amp or the guitar?
Sounds crappy...and cold
Shocking! You like neither the clean nor distorted in any of the 5 pickup positions?! Are you mainly, as your picture would indicate, a Les Paul player?
@@maarsmusic i am...and i pretty much love everything PRS does...but on this vid...dunno...not doing it for me sorry
That sonzera distortion sounds like 💩.
What's your go to amp for distortion? Part of the idea of the demo is that it could be easily duplicated at a PRS dealer with a simple amp / guitar setup, rather than a long, idiosyncratic signal chain. Do you like the clean tone?
@@maarsmusic EVH 5150 iii or direct with a Quad Cortex. I’m a PRS guy but I’ve never tried a Sonzera maybe you need to dial out some treble or positioning the mic better.
Clean tone is good.
