- Figured I would make a quick video illustrating the installation of the 350z/G35 VQ CD009 6-speed manual transmission onto my S14 SR20DET.
I bought this kit without instructions and had to kind of sort everything out on my own. Maverick Motorsports sort of just blew me off when I was trying to get info on how to install it. Maybe they include instructions now...

You have a video quality of someone who has 400k subs, i love it
Bro... appreciate the amazing wealth of info in this video. For anyone else doing this swap, I measured the clearance of the starter gear in the bellhousing area and there's actually 3mm of clearance so no need to grind that spot.
Thank you for giving me something Educational to watch . Love your stuff
You are a wealth of information. Thank you very much for an awesome video.
I live for videos like these of people who roll up their sleeves, and say, "yes, this conversion/swap IS possible, and here's how I did it"
Thank you
I was planning on doing the exact same thing/swap, but I'll wait and see if anyone else does something similar as Maverick Motorsports (plate wise), reason being is the idea of spending money and then being blown off/no instructions doesn't sit well with me (don't wanna be stuck), thus I refuse to support companies that do that kinda thing..
As of now my transmission is in good health, and I have a brand new cd trans still in the box.
Great video, mad respect for the hard work and thanks for the part numbers!
Man! I just found your channel a few weeks ago and love the content! The recording and editing is perfect! I found you because i am also planning to do a sr swap in a d21. Keep up the good work! And please dont stop the content lol
for the clearance issue with the fork window, you can also use a longer fork pivot. It will reduce the distance between the clutch mecanism and the TOB, and obviously increase distance between the fork window and the fork itself. BTW, very helpful video :)
Thank you...great video
Wow, I dunno why I haven't seen your page yet. Good quality!
Hell yeah! Welcome.
Another amazing video! Quality
Great video 🙌🏼 very helpful planning on swapping this exact layout on my 350z
Thanks for the video, I’m following your lead, you have great ideas and I like your vision
Gold 🙌
Only just found your videos, keep up the good work!
i’d assume this information (pivot ball, bearing stuff etc.) are the same for the collins adapter plate? good info, thanks man
Have you use it yet? Does the release bearing, pivot etc combination works?
So you have to machine the bellhousing
Solid video!
I think size s14 sr throwout same with skyline rb throwout.
Keep going!
Question! which flywheel and clutch kit do you use? Can you use the same thats originally for sr20? or do you need something else?
Hello. How thick is the adapter? how much was sawn off on the bell
How come your using the 350z clutch fork? Can the S14 clutch fork work too?
Are there any concerns about structural integrity with the milling down of the bell housing?
Great vid, keep it up
Thanks for the video, very informative. I myself bought the maverick adapter but for the KA. I wonder if I still need the extra parts like the throw-out bearing, release fork, etc...
Yeah, you’re going to need the same stuff. SR & KA are dimensionally the same in this department.
have you had any issues where the starter isnt pulling back after disengagement
How did you mil the belhousing?
Good video!
What's the benefit of running the Z trans?
Handle more horsepower?
That’s pretty much it. Some people feel that the gearing spread is better. I personally prefer the 5-speed gearing over the 6-speed, but that’s just me. The CD009 is quite heavy in comparison, but considering how robust it is, that’s a worthy trade off.
Thankx for all the videos, can you please tell me how thick the maverick plate is?
10mm
Thank you
No problemo
Nice video 👍
Will this adapter work for cdoo2 also? (Cdoo1 casing cdoo9 internals)
Wow nice adapter kit! Hey I'm working on mounting a 370z 6 speed transmission on a ls and I would really appreciate if you could send me some dimensions of your cd009 so I can compare the two. Thanks!
awesome vid and a great explantion. So on your cd009 u didnt have any modification on it just the spot of the starter ?
The bellhousing has to be machined down the thickness of the adapter plate.
Thankx for a great video!
Are you using the stock sr20 clutch?
Competition 6-puck sprung SR20 clutch disc and pressure plate. Stock SR20 flywheel.
Hey, would a newer gen transmission, either 1EA0B or jk41a work the same way? I'm getting a wicked deal on a new one and i'd like to confirm.
Yes, they would be fitted similarly. These types of adapters typically have multiple mounting options. So, you’re able to bolt up DE style (CD00X) and HR/VHR style (JK41A/B). Just make sure your adapter comes with dowel pins. If you’re going to run a CD00 series, TAARKS probably makes the best one. Also, if you’re running JK series, don’t forget a CSC delete like CMAK. The factory CSC is just a pain!
Cheers! 😎
@@Inner_Sanctum Thanks for the reply! I got a wicked deal to get the newer transmission but I just don't like the internal slave, so will try and find the cd009 instead. Have you used the TAARKS adapter yourself? Seems like it requires no milling, which is great!
@@khaldrogo9451 if you can grab the JK trans for a steal, just buy the CMAK V3 kit to convert it over to external slave. It’s not too expensive, and the JK series is a superior transmission overall. I installed a TAARKS adapter for a buddy, and it was flawless, but it only had the mounting holes, and dowels, for a DE CD00X trans.
What about trans mounts?
How much did you cut off the bell housing?
hello good day so are you using the sr20det clutch with the cd009 box?
Yep, SR clutch and flywheel setup.
@@Inner_Sanctum what about the drive shaft
Why would you want to do this? The SR transmission is not strong enough?
No, it’s not strong enough for my setup. The FS5W transmissions (KA/CA/SR) start tearing themselves apart after about 350ftlbs of torque with adequate grip. There’s a lot of variables, but that’s roughly where they dramatically lose reliability.
This SR is putting out ~400ftlbs of torque. I’m running 255/40r17 tires, and I have a lot of grip out back. That equals certain death to the factory SR trans. I have already blown one to piece in the middle of 4th gear, it just shredded.
What clutch and flywheel does this setup use? And how did you Mill the bell housing?
Running a stock SR flywheel with an SR clutch kit [Competition 6-puck sprung]. Milled on a large throat vertical mill.
@@Inner_Sanctum awesome I would love to do the cd009. How did you Mill the bellhousing?
What to do with the sr20 speed sensor to the transmission?
otap otap you cannot use it. You have to just position the wire out of the way. The CD009 does not have a VSS. G35 and 350z cars use wheel speed sensors that are integrated into the vehicle ABS system.
I am going to use the D21 ABS sensor on the diff third member and have the voltage modified with a Dakota Digital box to give me an output for the speedo, or just use their GPS output module and hook it up that way.
Do you need a different adaptor plate for CA18DET engine? Becouse i can´t find them anywhere, only one i can find are SR to VQ adaptor.
Yes, the CA18 block is a different bolt pattern.
@@Inner_Sanctum Damn, so probably the best bet is to get the Z32 transmision then?
@@nightwolf2414 I mean, adapter plates are not THAT hard to design and have made. However, the Z32 trans already has adapters made for the CA18. So yeah, simplicity and affordability there.
Honestly, I have always thought that Z32 and RB25DET transmissions were some of the best transmissions Nissan has ever made. They are VERY strong, have an amazing synchro design, and just feel right to me.
Maybe just a preference, but you can't go wrong with a Z32 trans.
@@Inner_Sanctum Thanks for info.... very much appreciated.
How did u mill the trans?. Just like angle ground it?
Vertical mill
Did you make your own r8 coil pack plate/bracket? Thank you!
No, a friend of mine locally makes them. I'll find a link and post it shortly.
@@Inner_Sanctum Please! Thank you!

What did it weigh with the sr box .........?
At work right now, but here's the video with the weight:
czcams.com/video/LXs2pS8TrRk/video.html
Are you using a shifter relocation?
Yep, I’m using a GKTech shifter relocation kit.
@@Inner_Sanctum second question brother im swapping to sr20det trans to cd009 but the only thing i dont know is if the same adapter plate your using will fit for s14 and still keep stock driveshaft or ima have to get a new one
What did you use to mill the bellhousing?
Mr2311brian Bridgeport vertical mill
What flywheel and clutch you using?
Stock SR20DET flywheel with an SR20DET Competition 6-puck clutch (sprung).
@@Inner_Sanctum s13?
@@Inner_Sanctum thank you for the response im trying to see if i use a s15 flywheel if i have to still mil the bell housing
Did you use a SR20det clutch?
Yeah, a Competition Clutch pressure plate and 6-puck sprung clutch disc for an SR. The flywheel is also SR.
Does the adapter plate have provisions for dial pins?
No, you will have to make the holes for the dowels yourself. It really is a poorly designed adapter plate. Going a different route myself.
@@Inner_Sanctum same with the Collins kits.. ill have to keep looking lol
@@keystonedrift7677 the best one I have found is the Protuner one out of the UK. It has the dowels, concentric bolts, and has the studs welded in for the starter so you don't have to pull the trans to change a starter.
protuner.co.uk/pages/sr20det-to-350z-gearbox-adapter
@@Inner_Sanctum Were you able to try out the Protuner kit? Im trying to piece together the possible parts for my CD009 swap, but its kind of hard to get good reviews about most of the items. I was previously looking into the Collins adapter, and pairing it with GKtech stuff-- shifter and trans mount.
Although the driveshaft that comes with the collins kit cant be used with the GKtech shifter
It's a sr20vct not a sr20det only s13 and 180sx come sr20det serious 2 s14 and s15 come sr20vct they are different style heads same bottom end sr20
Nope! S13, S14, and S15 are all called SR20DET. VCT stands for Variable Cam Timing and is a feature on the S14 and S15 SR20DET. The Pulsar GTi-R has an SR20VET because it uses VVL (Variable Valve Lift) technology. There’s no such thing as “SR20VCT”.
DO NOT ORDER THIS ADAPTER PLATE without researching the company first. You may never receive your parts. Apparently, according to a few people messaging me (and Facebook reviews), the owner of Maverick Motorsports is stealing people's money and not fulfilling orders.
Other than really dodgy customer service, my experience wasn't horrible, just annoying. Just make sure to do your homework before spending money.
Also, this adapter plate sucks. No alignment dowels, and the starter bolts are no longer accessible when the trans is installed. You will have to remove your entire trans to change a starter! Lmfao that's a pretty poor design.
Had other issues with this plate? a mate of mine had one and because its not doweled on the box side it allowed the box to shift and it fucked the input shaft and the clutch somehow in the process
That motor is a vct not a det
Ummm what? Lol I think you're a little confused buddy.
This engine is an S14 SR20DET that has VTC [Variable Timing Cam] . "VCT" [Variable Cam Timing] isn't an official nomenclature for Nissan. I'm going to assume you meant "VET" which is another engine entirely.
SR20VE and SR20VET were only offered in FWD configurations from the factory. It takes knowledge, money, and extensive work to convert a standard SR20VE or VET head to fit a RWD SR20DET.
Trust me, I would know. Been there, done that. If you're still confused. Research it, and learn about all the types of SR engines made.
Definitely don't go into comment sections and declare false information as truth.
Cheers!
