- Edit. It was confirmed a few days after posting this that the option to buy was removed due to them increasing the price of the game.

Squadron 42 is a single player campaign where you take the role of a rookie UEE Navy combat pilot in a cinematic single-player adventure set in the Star Citizen universe. Has been confirmed that SQ42 has been taken down due to price increase. Was hoping for pre-order due to game almost done but it is what it is. Only took like 5 days of this video being made before we got official word.

I never said it was. There was no way it was getting cancelled. Chris’ games in the past have always been delayed but awesome and sq42 is going to be epic.
Also, the sq42 monthly reports also gave away the fact it was not cancelled.

SQ42 has gotten so much more work done for it than Star Citizen. I actually have faith that SQ42 will release but I don't think SC ever will be fully released.
I think sq42 will be a masterpiece. I don’t think I will dislike the campaign in any way (I hope) but I agree, SC might get to a V1 state but will never end development until the day it dies. Just constant additions. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Most likely it’s getting removed from pledge to pre order with the final price increase. We will see soon enough.

Well the vertical slice was over an hour long and wasn’t the full mission so I expect it to take me a long time to complete as I wander off exploring a lot in campaign missions.
So Squadron 42 is still not back on their store. So this whole time Clod Imperium Games has been ok losing potential sales on one of its two games they are making? And remember they have zero games released since they started crowd funding. This price change excuse isnt looking real good right now. If the game isnt shown at the next CitizenCON and you dont see it return to the store by then? Well it probably is getting canceled 😂
The Apple iPhone for the first ~4 years ... Apple STOPPED selling the iPHone after ONLY 10 Months. REmoved the option to purchase any more from their website ... 2 months later they introduced a new model and sold it for 10 months ONLY. Rinse and repeat. POINT IS your hypothesis that some major shift (like a release) being imminent is not as far fetched as you think and has precedent.

It's gotta be a price increase/beta announcement, right? Maybe they will surprise drop the announcement at the end of or right after Invictus. We already had answer the call 2016! Can't hurt their reputation to announce a 2024 release date they miss by a decade. LOL
This is definitely the most logical reason. Guess we will find out soon enough though. I've watched the sq42 vertical slice too many times now haha
@@ItIsntJack Could be, impossible to say. On roadmap they have sceduled work until September for SQ42. If all work needed is scheduled and visible on roadmap it would indicate it's done on September and after that some sort of testing and bug fixing period before actual release.
No beta for Squadron. They will be testing it internally only.
@@LemonToGo of course not an open beta. But a huge milestone and some select evo's might be included. It would be a huge announcement.

I would like to think that Sq42 will be released at the end of CitizenCon this year. Big release with the game stars arriving at the release event. This includes a price increase now that the first episode is downloadable.
I'd love that. Not putting my hopes up for it though. At the very least we might get an actual date or big news around CitizenCon.

I've been ignoring Star Citizen since I got into base building in No Man's Sky... I think Star Citizen is making a big mistake keeping the game devoid of any player creativity...
I know base building is planned but to exactly what capacity I have no idea.

This is likely a but, perhaps there have been a lot of changes, and maybe someone clicked something when adding the new ships, breaking the link. If they were going to make a big change they would likely announce it.
While i dont agree with the way they are transparent, CIG is far more transparent than any other game company. Thus if this was intentional, someone somewhere would have mentioned it.
I’m pretty sure they took it off the store because they don’t wanna have everyone buy their game for $45…. Only the people who backed the game wayyyy before it’s release get the lower price. More likely than not it’s going to be a $60 game when it releases not to mention a lot of the money that people pay for ships and all the subscriber money goes to the development of SQ42. My guess is because we’ve been hearing a trailer is going to release by the end of the year they’re prepping for the game to be pre ordered for the full price once that trailer drops instead of just up charging more for the initial price in a overnight change. They’re extremely strategic with their market and marketing so it wouldn’t surprise me. I also don’t wanna forget; one of their biggest marketing strategies is to give you the buyer fomo(fear of missing out)so when all these players who are new hear that theirs a single player game being made and they go looking for it but can’t find anything it gives them a sense of waiting to buy it. Like it’s stuck in the back of their thoughts kind of thing

It's not cancelled, it's just taken off the road map for now. I don't know how people figure that something is taken away just because we don't see it. CIG does this all the time, and it's not the first time CIG has taken something off the road map just to bring it back a few months later, in the round table as 5-27-2023. Not one dev said anything about SQ42 being cancelled, it was even brought up that it's still currently being worked on, because there's still ships that have to be put into the game.
maybe a marketing strategy or website upgrade or changes. maybe its redundant? SQ42 has the majority of the employees working on it so its not done even though i hate SQ42 for not being a featue in the online sandbox... why cant we have a single player story mode that exist in the MMORPG SIM?
maybe the game can have dungeon missions and or just penalize players who interfere with military business will kill all rep and even set you in the negative and bring the might of NPC military to grief you
Squadron 42 isn't being canceled, it's never going to be canceled unless CIG goes bankrupt & closes its doors.
In fact, I expect SQ42 to actually be completed & released in another 2-3 years. If you follow the monthly reports, they're about 85% of the way done. We'll see.

I was thinking they might take it out of their store for release on other platforms. S42 is a packaged game, it could go to Epic, Steam, GoG, the consoles.... Its a game. Possibly part of the distribution's contract is to have control of sales. Of course that would imply that release is darn near imminent. I know many games have locked into 1 year exclusive sales to a distributer for better contracts. There has never been a discussion from CIG on how the sale of S42 would be handled or if consoles were included. All the Wing Commander games were on consoles... No reason S42 would be different, and it would precisely explain why there was such a massive delay from its 2016 release date.
If memory serves, the engine they use can't be run on consoles just yet so I can't see that being the case. I do think its most likely that is due to multi platform pre order in the near future.
@@ItIsntJack That may have been true 7 years ago.... that was 7 years ago..... see what I am getting at? It took them 7 years to modify this to a format that is yet tapped, consoles. Selling to PC is going to be slow as most interested parties have already purchased the game. Consoles for S42 is not just a possibility..... for new cash its a must. They need to launch both at the same time to maximize cash inflow. At the end of the day CIG is going to do what it takes to be profitable.
I do get you. It’s just none of us know what they plan. A console release would certainly help but every post about it on the forums are usually replied to by the devs saying it’s not happening due to x,y and z. Time will tell, we will know eventually. Just hope that eventually is actually much sooner than we think.
They didn’t pull the plug. Zyloh specifically said they’re removing it temporarily for a price change. Just read spectrum instead of freaking people out

Just like they do with the BMM and polaris, they start "working on them" just before some sales, show so interior videos, then after the dales abandon then just to be scraped reconcept and years later "work on" again to sale more

You havent been listening at all. Games this big always go on a month long if not year long advertisment run before release, if its release is close you will know it. I find it very unfair to get hopes up for the new guys seeing this video you have NO reason to make your statement so you shouldnt. Btw. AAA games usually release in Spring around Feb. or March. an announcement this year wouldnt have enough time to promote and lead to disaster

I think it might be changing from pledge status to pre order. If they have it as pre order, they can release it to platforms like steam. Just a theory of course.
My guess is they are canceling the game. Taking it down for a price change makes no sense. You dont have to pull it to change a price. You just change it or put TBA. Oh man if this thing gets canceled it will be egg on so many backers faces. Especially those that have told critics they dont understand game development. How can you trust them to make an MMO when they cant get a freaking single player game out.
They are going to try and pull an Overwatch 2, its going to get a LOT of flak if they do it.....but for an even bonkers idea, its going to get released THIS year and its going to get a price bump to full 60 or 70 dollars. They want to do this to make sure that Starfield isn't the only space game in town for players who enjoy the genre. Its going to get released but in parts, its going to come back up as SQ42 Part 1 coz why sell you the game at 45 dollars when they can sell it to you in parts for more money and completely derail Starfield's hype for Microsoft😆

@@mercenum5186 The SQ42 idea of being released this year is as I said, a bonkers idea, it would be amazing if they can pull it off like release the first 20 chapters of it (if they even have that down already... which I dont believe they do) and call it SQ42 Part 1, BUT really If we go by CIGs track record, we will probably see "snippets" or another vertical slice of the SQ42 SPG at citizen CON probably a cleaned up version of what they released in the previous years, then they will announce the price bump and say its 2 years out just to ride into the Starfield bandwagon and then miss that date again just the same, because they dont have anything to show for it at all and hope that everyone forgets about it for the next decade or two.
@@electrospud9230 Squadron 42 is already supposed to be a trilogy. If they are still working on it then you'll see atleast a trailer of it at CitizenCON. But if you don't, and the game remains off the store, then it probably is getting canceled. Why would you pull your single player game right around when Starfield gets revealed? My guess is whatever they had was nothing compared to what Bethesda has shown.

If they got sued for Sq42, we would know by now. We knew about Crytek suing CiG a while back and now CiG has a load of the Crytek devs working for them. I think if they got sued so hard that sq42 was cancelled, SC would also go down too.
@TheRealSoberSoldier I doubt that. CIG is not the best at open communication. I wouldn't say canceled either. Just forced to take it off the website until it's actually close to being released. SC actually works for the most part, so I can see why that's still functioning and will continue to do so.

I personally think they should make Squadron 42 part of the overall persistent universe instead of a stand-alone game. Basically, just make it a huge introduction / tutorial to the online game. You play through Squadron 42, learn the game mechanics and earn some money, ships and items that carry over to the online game. At the end of the story, you leave the UAE Navy and start living your life in the persistent universe.
That was actually the plan unless they changed it; pretty much exactly like you explained it, except that you it was supposed to be a kinds of choose your own adventure thing where each person can take different paths and end up more geared to towards one profession or another.

I play on average 3 weeks a year tops, so could care less, yet will i buy SQ42, of course, and so will you. , and anyone who plays SC will buy a copy, otherwise they'll be content, features and game play loops they'll be excluded from. Fact is, SQ42 is happening, sometime, just get used to it.
