  • The museum tells about one of Sweden's oldest companies, founded in 1580 - Åkers Jern Bruk in the village Åkers Styckebruk.
"Stycke" is the old word for cannon and the mill produced mainly cast iron cannons until the mid-1860s.
The 17th century Swedish great power era increased the need for cannons and ammunition. The domestic production grew and concentrated into a smaller number of mills, Åker's Styckebruk (Canon Factory) was the major producer. With the help of Dutch capital, organization and know-how, cannon manufacturing developed into a Swedish specialty. As a result of the wars in Europe a large part of the production was exported.
Agricultural implements like plows, iron stoves, window frames, grave guards, sewer pipes and rollers later came to dominate manufacturing.
The museum is run by elderly pensioners from the local homestead association so e-mails are rarely answered.
Music: Alexander Nakarada - Forest Walk
