- We spent a full day checking out some of major sights to try to find the best things to in Santiago de Chile.
We started out the day with a run and headed to the beautiful Parque Bicentario where we saw some beautiful views of the city and mountains. We ran around the park for awhile to see what it had to offer and came across some flamingos.
We picked up the video later in the day in the centre of town in the Plaza de Armas, which is the main square in Santiago. From here we picked up our Hop on Hop off tickets from Turistik Chile and immediate hopped on a bus!
To book your Santiago Hop on Hop off ticket visit here (we had the “plus” ticket): www.turistik.com/en/bus-hop-o...
The Hop on Hop off bus took us throughout a large part of the city where we got to see many of the important sites and also listen to an audio guide.
We got off at the tallest building in Latin America called the Costanera Centre (Gran Torre). Here we bought tickets to the observation deck called Sky Costanera. The observatory is this highest in Latin America and offers amazing views of the city and Andes Mountains.
After this we walked to the cable car to make our way up Cerro San Cristobal, a park on a hill in the middle of the city. The tickets to the cable car were included in our Hop on Hop off ticket and also included the funicular down the hill.
Up at the top of Cerro San Cristobal you’ll find beautiful views of the city. You’ll also find a church as well as a statue of the Virgin Mary which you can see from the ground in most of the city.
ABOUT SANTIAGO
Santiago, Chile’s capital and largest city, sits in a valley surrounded by the snow-capped Andes and the Chilean Coast Range. Plaza de Armas, the grand heart of the city’s old colonial core, is home to 2 neoclassical landmarks: the 1808 Palacio de la Real Audiencia, housing the National History Museum, and the 18th-century Metropolitan Cathedral. La Chascona is the home-turned-museum of poet Pablo Neruda.
ABOUT CHILE
Chile is a long, narrow country stretching along South America's western edge, with more than 6,000km of Pacific Ocean coastline. Santiago, its capital, sits in a valley surrounded by the Andes and Chilean Coast Range mountains. The city's palm-lined Plaza de Armas contains the neoclassical cathedral and the National History Museum. The massive Parque Metropolitano offers swimming pools, a botanical garden and zoo.

You need to come to La Serena👀👀🇨🇱
Sí tienes que ir alli es muy bonito
Santiago has mountains all arround so pollutions is stuck there most of the time. The goverment constantly tries to keep it low but with no rains is pretty much impossible. wait for the views after it rains... it's 100000000% better btw welcome to Chile!
Would love to see those views! 😃 - Anna
I've been there in a rainy day, and it's beautiful!
I'm from Chile lol
"The goverment constantly tries to keep it low"... nope
What's the point of your comment?
Es suficiente con un 100%!!!
I was in Santiago a month ago. The city has many nice buildings, many parks and murals. I was shocked by the number of immigrants and homeless people living in parks, but I did not feel any danger. In addition, there was a lot of garbage in other parts of Chile is much cleaner. I recommend Punta Arenas and Patagonia. I fell in love with the south part of Chile and I want to go back there.
Patagonia is on our list but I don't think we'll get there on this trip Szymon. Santiago is so beautiful and we also feel no danger at all. Thanks for watching as always 😃 - Anna
I’ve seen homeless in every big city I’ve been. Included “first world countries” I don’t see the point to mention that.
@@barrapa, I am talking about the scale of homelessness and the gap between the rich and the poor. Yes, in every big city you can see homeless people and immigrants, but I had no idea about the scale of this phenomenon in Chile. My country has a similar GDP as Chile, but there is no such gap between the poor and the rich and food prices in Chile are incomparably bigger. From all EU countries, my country accepts the most immigrants from outside the EU. The prices of food are twice as high as in my country and everyone has to eat. You can eat cheaper in Germany and even in Japan. If you don't have studies then you have no chance of a good life in Chile.
@@szymonzielinski7160 where are you from?
You are either exaggerating or you went to a really bad area, you make it sound like the whole city is full of homeless people and that no one can afford food?
Not entering to the cathedral was a big mistake....its amazing inside, very impresive.
There was no problem to wear shorts.
We've been to quite a few cathedrals around the world so we were okay to skip this one. It felt weird enough wearing shorts in the actual city let alone a church. Everyone wears pants! 😃 - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers i understand your politness😀.
This cathedral its not just a religious building, its a cultural site for everyone to watch, they even got something like a museum inside (we are not that religious).
I been in lots of cathedrals too, dont know why, but this one is very impresive inside, maeby the strong religious felling of the people of the past, that donate money to recontruct it after an earthquake.
Anyway nice video....gonna watch more of these. Thanxs. 😅
@@joaquin.suarez that you're not religious person doesn't mean you can be irrespectful with those who are religious. The church is as you may know a National ,monument and belongs to all chileans, but first of all it's a religious place and for that reason everyone who want to visit it should respect it as so.
I think people have lost the sense of what to wear or how to conduct inside of a church, so I value the reason these canadians gave to skip walking in to the temple.(Although I think they erroneously didn't expect to much to see...;)))
Wonderful video! I loved the video! I'm a total Santiago lover hahaha! Last vacations I met two amazing german friends in Punta Arenas, and then showed them "La capital" with my boyfriend. When we were at Plaza the Armas one of them didn't want to enter because her clothes. I was very impressed because i never imagined the problem, but after she explained me that it could be irrespectful. Otherwise I told her that latinamerican culture is very different with that kind of thing, I mean, you can totally go anywere anyway. What do you think guys? Reggaeton and Religion start with R you know
@@CristianRiscoGutierrez well, that's kind ignorant , don't you think? I mean if a person from other country decide to be "respectful" even though he/she may not be religious himself, and not enter a Church, it shows to me the great difference between a civilized tourist wandering around and those who in doing the same don't care about the culture or tradiitons of the locals.
Now, it may be true that latinoamericans in general are very relax about religion but still there are people who have a different opinions and views of it. So it's better to be safe than sorry..;)
remember that Santiago has a subway system if you wanna avoid traffic.. it's very good, clean and safe.. lines 3 and 6 are the newest and the best
Yes for sure. We often take the local metro in larger cities 👍- Anna
It's awesome if you ARE NOT on rush hour. Then don't even think about it lol
Icespoon exactly! in the peak hour the subway is a living hell
yeah, and so dangerous
@@alejandrojavierlopez9978 do you mean like pickpocketing - why is it dangerous though? Thanks!
WOW you guys just influenced me to put Chile on my travel list!
Make sure to send us a photo if you go 😃 Thanks for watching - Anna
Snowy Santiago czcams.com/video/kJW3ETMyr5w/video.html
If you came, I'm certified tourguide, I can show you the city and the best places to visit. ;)
Come in Autumn or spring, if you can make it to September (Chile's national holidays) then you'll see it at its best. Summer can be waaaaaaaaay too hot and winter has the risk of being too smoggy and you won't see a thing in Sky Costanera or San Cristóbal.
Also, go to Bellavista BUT - DO - NOT go to Patio Bellavista. Biggest tourist trap in the whole city. Go to any bar or pub nearby. They're the same, 100x better and 1000x cheaper :D
Source: Living in Santiago for almost a decade now.
If you come, please visit cities to the south, just don't get stuck on Santiago. Spring is awesome to come
Wow! Chile is amazing ! Greetings from LA,California !

In winter i always see the enormous mountain whenever i come back from school. It looks clear as day because of the rains and instead of a dry, brown mountain it fills up with snow. Its a really beatiful and calming view to see when im tired from school!
Beautiful blue skies and the mountains in the background.. amazing!!
Enjoy Chile 🇨🇱!!!!!
It's out of this world Maureen. We'll never get tired of those incredible views😍 - Anna
If you loved Santiago you should travel to the south of Chile, cities like Valdivia and Castro are awesome.
Castro is criminally underrated
And road trip the Carretera Austral
Santiago is an amazing city. Snowy mountains all along the country. I'm proud of it.
It's beautiful! The views are incredible - Anna
The view is even more beautiful when it's winter, the mountains are full of snow, and because of the rains, the sky looks cleaner and more blue 💙
It only looks better because it's the only season with rain to clean the pollution heh
Oh wow it looks absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking 😍 thanks guys for sharing this with us

Viña del Mar and Valparaiso are worth a little visit as well.
Yay! It's nice to revisit Santiago. I lived in Las Condes. I was an English teacher. I love the Andes Mountains, but the pollution in Santiago was not none I've ever experienced. But it's a nice place to live and visit.

I also used to avoid the Hop On/Hop Off buses, but I have changed my mind too. If you're someplace for a very short visit, it's a great fast overview of a place. If you're there longer, it can give you some great ideas of what you might want to explore further on your own.
Really nice city!
Wonderful video. I can suggest you some nice spots or things to do in the city. Starting with the change of guard at La Moneda presidential Palace. It should be today at 10:00.
