- TBT: On October 29, 2013, big-wave surfer Maya Gabeira made news as the biggest surf story of the year. When one of the largest swells to date had hit Nazaré, off the coast of Portugal, surfers from around the globe made their way to conquer these massive waves - including big names like Maya Gabiera and Carlos Burle. Charging the biggest wave ever surfed by a woman to date, Maya almost drowned. What came out of this death defying moment was a life-changing experience and a powerful story of resilience that still remains with the surfing world.

She's a very brave young woman, conquering waves that size is amazing.
Fast forward 2020 she rode the highest wave ever for a woman 72 ft.. this woman has some balls!
nicola lamberti ...and then some
Curious... how does it compare to the men’s record? They are blowing this up now I think because of Ruth Bader Ginsburgs death since she was a Feminist icon
You mean she wiped out and almost died again on the biggest wave a woman has ever wiped out and almost died on...Truth.
@@benshearts5655 Compares like this... For men to get a record they have to actually ride the wave out... She wiped out again and had to be rescued...AGAIN. They count it as a record because she is a chick.
King Koopa I didn’t know she got wiped out. Yeah, it’s pathetic. Girls need their trophies too 😜
Wow what an amazing woman and the great man who saved her , all very brave . You are remarkable human beings to even dare to go there . 🌅
why hasn’t this blew up yet? such an amazing story.
Totally! Beautiful surfer story. He laugh at the end...gets me.
@skierbaz bullshit long explanation. It's cause she's a girl. People aren't as interested.
Amazing story and I respect her resilience and strength!!
Maya is Unstoppable! She worked very hard and rode a massive wave here in 2020
Damn that had to be scary as hell so glad she made it... then she went back!!! Talk about being brave!!! She is dedicated and diligent!! The reward is conquering the wave that nearly took her life!!
Wow she has an amazing spirit good for you Maya
Maya you’re my hero!
Que fantástica! Maravilha!🌻🌞
After watching interview between Graham Bensinger and Maya named, -"Maya Gabeira on the wipeout that nearly killed her"- recorded about 2 years after this one, it's so sad to realize how much she was trapped in this so called business relationship with this guy Carlos, young and naive girl. It's also interesting to see what she looked like and behaved like in the state when what she said contradicted her inner authenticity, which btw came to the light in the following years, as in the given example.
You’re so amazing!
WOW!!! AWSOME LADY!!! She would pass foe Daisy Fuentes sister or daughter!! GOD BLESS you Maya G.
Pense nisso Maia.
Not for weaklings, but only for strong, brave people!
Was that wave like 35 feet? Because I can't swim since im a honcho peice of bread
Top top
"I did my part" almost killed her
And she speaks very good English.
Cadê o estádio do Flamengo?
Crazy...I rode my biggest wave as a teenager at Cottons, Calif. It was about 7 feet, Mike Lloyd was there he could verify it. I am not a "Surfer" since I got a screw in my shoulder (It hurts to paddle over my head) I now work at believing on moving mountains in the Spirit of Christ (far more meaningful than risking my life on a wave). I've gone to Africa, I was used to heal a group of children's belly aches and then they wanted Christ and wanted to go to Heaven! In over 30 years I have moved mountains thru love and faith, I still have hopes of moving larger ones. So, in once since this is my way of riding big waves spiritually and meaningfully. I think almost anyone could move big mountains with enough faith and love, very few people in the world can ride the largest waves in the world and live to talk about it.
Go home or go big!
I love you too much
Water is hostile for humans, even surfers.
I would only surf on clean small waves .. not brave as her
Nunca mais vai tentar em Portugal
Ela voltou e cravou recorde, 72 pés.
