    A lot of companies have 247 recording including Swann, Hikvision and Unifi Ubiquiti that still marks detection points. They have other problems but the 247 recording is something that's been available for years.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  Před 29 dny

      Yes, all wired DVR/NVR systems offer 24/7 recording, that’s nothing new. But when I’m talking 24/7 recording (in this wishlist), I’m talking WiFi cameras.

    My Wish List would include a variable pitch siren or warning tone. To keep from frightening the whole neighborhood, I'd like to hear a tone start out low, and over several seconds, work up to a higher volume. This would put the intruder on notice, and perhaps he would flee before your neighbor throws their shoe at your window! And once alerted, you could shut down the siren before it reached its peak.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  Před 22 dny

      That would be a great feature, depending on the location of the camera. The problem with sirens will always be frightening the poor random dog walkers or neighbors out for a stroll…close enough to set off the camera, but completely innocent and not deserving of a siren at any decibel. I really like the warning tone idea though. Something that gradually escalates…

    I just installed 8 eufy cams (4 solar) and a homebase. I have a wired led flood light cam. Great residential system.

    I agree completely that I want support for resolutions higher than 1080p. And I'd like much better audio quality, going in both directions. It'd be nice to have more cameras with optical-zoom capability, although I know that'd increase the cost. And of course there are several improvements I'd really like to see for HKSV. And these are improvements which I expect would not cost Apple all that much more to provide.
    As I've said elsewhere I don't really care about 24x7 recording, because I just cannot trust my cable-internet connection for multiple 24x7 streams going to "the cloud". What I want is cameras going to local storage for 24x7 video. But what I'd like to then see is that if some event happens, then the video for "that event" should start maybe a minute before camera detected "some event" to a minute after the camera thinks the event is over. One of the other YT channels reviewed a car camera where if you run up to the car and bang on the windshield, the video which it saves starts 10-20 seconds before the "bang", so the recording includes video of the bad guy running up to the car. I think that'd be fine, and wouldn't require a 100% reliable 24x7 internet connection.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Yeah, that’s where a good wired NVR is far superior. As you have so much more control over the “pre record” & “post record” options.

  • @BrandonDoyleMN

    Thanks for the video. This is exactly what I've been debating about. I want 2 outdoor cameras that have all the features you suggested. I can't decide on what to do. The cameras each have their pros and cons. If I can get the camera into HomeKit through scripted or homebridge, I might have to accept that. Thanks again George.

  • @LightningFabrication
    @LightningFabrication Před 3 měsíci +1

    George, this is going to be a long comment. If you're going to use a wi-fi camera system it has to be compatible with other wi-fi systems. Right now I'm using 3 wi-fi items. Item 1 is a wi-fi garage door opener. It works great except that the second wi-fi item interferes with it. Item 2 dash cam when I get in the vehicle and start it, the dash cam comes on and says "wi-fi Connected" now the garage door will not close as I drive off or open when I return. Item 3 is the sprinkler system I can also control it through wi-fi. So that's where I am and I can 't see wi-fi cameras benefiting me.
    To tell you the truth I would like cameras that are POE powered and hard wired into the recorder. I'd like it to be connected to multiple monitors so if I'm in the office I can monitor the cameras same with the bedroom and living room. Anywhere there is a monitor/TV I'd like the cameras to pop up and have priority if I'm watching something and motion is detected. This might be the only application for wi-fi but an iPad might be the ticket for monitoring.
    I'd love a POE doorbell camera with audio and still be able to use the existing doorbell button to activate it. It would be even better if it were a peephole camera for my application. Everything is on the inside and you don't have to worry about the suspect pulling the camera, memory card off of the wall. But there is a storm door in front of the main door so a remote speaker and mic would be needed. I would also like the doorbell camera to call my phone and let me see and speak with who's there.
    As far as audio quality, every big store you go into has a PA system through the telephone system to make announcements "Kenny bring in carts, Jill open your register or Kevin,cleanup on isle 3" and we can hear it perfectly. A good amplifier and quality speakers make a world of difference. How many can remember CB radios with a PA speaker plugged in? You could hardly hear or make out what the person was saying but a cop gets behind you and you can definitely hear them. I had a friend who patrolled his pastures using an old vacuum tube intercom system back in the 50's. He insulated the center two strands of barbed wire from the post, clipped in with the speaker and could hear if someone was on his property. He could also talk back telling the person to get off his land. I think these Doorbell cam companies could provide better audio but their main goal is to provide ease of installation to someone who only wants to peel stick and download an app.

      Sorry, I don’t know where to start with this comment. lol

    My number 1 requirement is 24/7 recording. Nothing else is acceptable. I’ve been with nest since day 1 and you’re 100% right, Google ruined nest. They need a new camera and for Heaven’s sake they need to go back to usb. That proprietary plug is a step backwards. I’m wondering if 4K pulls too much bandwidth for WiFi? If that’s the case at least give us a 4K option if we are using a wired connection like they do with 24/7 recording. In April my nest secure is losing support. Have you heard if nest has a new security system coming out?

      I’ve been doing this for 25 years and have helped thousands of people secure their home….never once have I had someone fall victim to someone using a “jammer”. People love to talk about them, but in real life, they are not commonplace. If someone is jamming your WiFi, you’re being targeted and you’ve got bigger problems to worry about than which WiFi camera you’re using.

    I was thinking that I might be able to hack this problem a little. I was weighing the pros and cons of placing by placing something like the Aqara 2K Security Indoor Camera Hub G3 inside by mounting it in a window sill. No problem with theft, unless there's a home break-in. It has PTZ. You can plug it in nearly anywhere, maybe with an extension cord. HKSV. Obviously no two-way audio. Other comments or thoughts?

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Certain times a day you won’t be able to see out the window because of the reflection. You may also have problems at night because the IR will reflect off the glass. If you’re going to do a camera in a window like that, it needs to be a camera that has some sort of “window mode”…which some do.
