    Back when soylent was still available in Canada (it isn't anymore, unfortunately) I basically ate it exclusively for days at a time. To be fair, I was very anorexic and this was almost a way for me to trick myself into increasing my caloric intake without actually eating real food and feeling the shame and disgust that came with that. I think there is a lot of value in the product, but it definitely is not for the average healthy person and should not be marketed as such. Honestly, if I could still get my hands on it I would still be on a diet of mostly soylent purely because my mental health prevents me from getting adequate nutrition, and that puts myself and my health at risk.

      maybe try ensure if it's in canada or something like it? It's not gonna give you ALL the nutrients you need. However, it's way better than nothing when you dont have an appetite. We give it to people in the medical field all the time who are recovering and feel too sick too eat. I've even tried it out of curiosity and its actually really good in my opinion if you dont mind a mild chalky texture.

      yeah this video was hard to watch for me because I drink soylent for similar reasons. I drink soylent because I have multiple disabilities in addition to the eating disorder. It was actually a fellow chronically ill friend who introduced me to the stuff. I was hesitant at first, especially cause of all the branding, but it’s really helped me not literally starve and die. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who didn’t have any problems with eating or cooking, but if you have an eating disorder, chronic pain that makes cooking regularly difficult, or genuinely don’t have any time to cook multiple meals a day, these can be really helpful.

      I haven't tried soylent, but have had similar experiences. Guess who found out recently that she was allergic to soy as a child? Fermented seems to be ok (i.e. soy sauce) but anything else leads to vomiting and migraines. When I was young this basically meant no food from the store nor teething food products because there was no "eco" or "raw" option back then so every single baby item had at a minimum soy emlusifiers (like most adult items now) if not more, and I would just throw up if I was fed them. Looking back, I basically ate no junk food until I started school because nobody would give me things that would make me vomit. I must've grown out of the allergy as it takes larger quantities to make me vomit or give me migraines now, but I still can't eat a lot of normal processed products.

      @@TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32 Many foods such as non-dairy milks, cereals, spreads, and nutritional yeast flakes available in a plant based diet are naturally fortified with B12. This type of B12 can be derived from an isolated bacteria source (not as nasty as it sounds), meaning that we’re not missing out - in fact just one portion of some provide well above the recommended daily intake.
      This is where it gets interesting. In most cases this form of fortified vegan-friendly B12 is not bound to protein, therefore it has a greater bio-availability (increased and easier rate of absorption through the gut lining), unlike animal based versions which rely more on the efficiency of digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid in the stomach to break it down to a smaller component, allowing it to pass into the blood stream. Not only is this fantastic for those that choose to eat a plant based diet, but also for those who suffer with digestive problems. Digestive disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Chrohn’s Disease, Dysbiosis (an imbalance of gut flora), or low stomach acid production can negatively affect the way food is digested and absorbed, due to either an imbalance of essential bacteria, a physical manifestation, or inflammation. This readily digestible form of B12 does not require your digestive system to work as vigorously, and therefore may help increase absorption rates dramatically where digestion may otherwise be compromised
      I'm not even vegan but the B12 myth is just that a myth

    agree with this sentiment. usually i use soylent to bridge myself during a depressive episode from junk food back to real food. i work a night shift and it helps with sugar cravings so i don’t eat all the snacks people bring to the office. i drink the smaller 320cal bottles. def good option for some people but the way some these corporate dudebros use it as a way to max their xp is symptom of the late stage capitalism we are in now. the way i use it is also revealing about certain societal failings.

      If people are drinking _only_ Soylent for a week, obviously they're not going to have a good time. It's not meant to replace every meal, it's just a quick and easy option for when you need to eat something. And the nice thing about it is that it has like every nutrient you need in one drink, so it's genuinely a better option than oatmeal for breakfast.

    I've had what I suspect in an eating disorder for years, I frequently can't get food in me and gag in the process because my stupid lizard brain thinks imma get fat. Soylent is one of the few things I can just chug and get some fuel in me when my body is working against me. As of recently, I take Adderall for my ADHD and anyone who's familiar knows appetite and the prioritization of food can be an issue. It works great for me, but I know I'm one of those rarer robotic eaters who doesn't care much about the process of eating. Wouldn't recommend it to most people unless they have some kind of need for quick drinkable calories. Cool video, nice to see it from a food enjoyer's perspective

    I tried to drink Soylent when I had evening classes and couldn’t always cook dinner before hand because my job was also all day. It jacked up my heart rate to absurd levels and I almost had a panic attack during lecture. Do not recommend if eating normally is feasible for you.

    I thought it was a great product when taken in addition to my "normal" diet while on a camping festival in the desert. Just existing in that environment saps a ton of energy so having additional calories and nutrients was great. Would never have this in my normal day to day

      Laura Klein yeah, I drink one a day. My husband is deployed and literally cannot motivate myself to make cereal sometimes. And it’s definitely better nutritionally than a bowl of Fruity Pebbles.

      Big Boi 2000 lol okay dude. I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart that my meal choices are hurting you so deeply. Might even be more pathetic than what I said. It’s not about the effort of preparing a bowl of cereal. I have a two year old that I’m raising on my own at the moment who drains my energy and motivation to do much of anything for myself after I am done catering to her every need and want. I also work and go to school in pursuit of a Master’s degree. But again, so sorry to have offended you. Or maybe it’s just your apparent hatred of something that works for plenty of other people even if it doesn’t work for you. If other people’s lives upset you this much you should seek help IMMEDIATELY cause that’s fucked.

    • @brookepeery7368
      @brookepeery7368 Před 4 lety +2

      Big Boi 2000 lol alright. My point was that it isn’t like I have crippling depression that prevents me from moving my bed or couch like you seemed to imply, that was the purpose in saying that, not to brag. Never claimed my child was a burden either, but no parent would tell you it’s sunshine and rainbows 24/7, especially doing it on their own for any prolonged period of time. It is exhausting regardless of the limitless love you feel for them and the fact that you would be willing to throw yourself off a cliff for their happiness. My whole purpose in saying all this is that you don’t know me or my life and I have no idea how you think you can make any determinations from a two sentence comment. Seriously lol this is about a meal replacement drink and suddenly I’m mentally unstable? Wtf lol? Stop spreading hate to strangers on the internet.

      @brookepeery7368 Před 4 lety +10

      Big Boi 2000 well I’m a sincere and honest person. Maybe you shouldn’t go around telling people they’re pathetic when they weren’t even talking to you and then telling them not to take it personally when you personally attacked them. This is why I rarely comment on anything anymore because no one can just be a decent human being to others. Will definitely take your advice though and just not comment on anything anymore because I shouldn’t assume that anyone will be decent, even if it’s about a fucking drink. Thanks for the apology though, which I really do mean.
