  • OpenAI will announce plans for a search engine powered by artificial intelligence on Monday May 13, Reuters reports. It's the latest challenge to search king Google and comes just one day before the tech giant's annual developer conference. On this week's Tech 24, Peter O'Brien looks at what might get Google sweating, amid changing search habits, a federal antitrust trial and smart new AI "answer engines". One of these is Perplexity AI. Speaking to FRANCE 24, CEO Aravind Srinivas says its results "cut through the noise" that comes up on a traditional Google search.

    If you have AI it's already a search engine. Why would you want to go back to normal searching and clicking on answers when you can just ask for the answer and get it. If openai wants to sell ads then just put an ad on the answer

    • @javi3563
      @javi3563 Pƙed 23 dny +3

      because currently openAI and other models are trained on datasets and so they usually update them every so often. like gpt-3 and gpt-4. GPT can't currently browse the web and read the latest up to date information. probably for legal and ethical reasons to they want to make sure what the AI responds is credible and doesn't impose any possible legal risks. I think it will be cool to see a search engine aided by AI.
