There’s a priest on my realm named Mephisston (Oceanic - Frostmourne - Alliance) who has Atiesh, always exciting seeing him around. That same priest also has full tier 3, scarab lord title with mount, and realm first level 80 with a few realm first wotlk raids

Considering he has 10/15/08 dates on both Atiesh and Scarab Lord, he is a true original Scarab Lord. You hardly ever see those. Let alone with Atiesh. Majority of the Scarab Lords you see got it in 2009, during the whole WotLK transfer/reroll shizzle. BC players could also get 08 date but thats still very rare.
This weapon has and will ALWAYS be my greatest regret. I had 35 of the shards going into wrath and couldn't be arsed to finish it at the time.

I've never seen Atiesh live at all since my beginnings in 2006 and in all that time I never knew there was a bird on top. I always thought it was some carving resembling a corncob.

Classic had a legendary for every class except Hunters (well a Hunter COULD get Thunderfury but what would be the point) which is something that's pretty awesome in my book as there was always something to strive for. That is if you could convince your raid that you deserve one, that's the only barrier and it's a pretty steep one as everyone thinks they deserve a legendary.
let me just level to 60 dedicate 2 years to a guild and raiding to get atiesh. yeah right mate unless you are classleading and a officer/guildmaster you will not get this staff. stupidest thing ive heard all year.
the way big quests are the only time you talk to dragons.. I lovveee that.

I will very likely never get this when classic comes out, but I will try so hard and love every minute of it.
thats the problem. people will realize quite fast how boring the vanilla raids were. 40 men, gear check behind every corner just to grind boing bosses with simple mechanics. I don't think there will be a lot of hardcore raiding guilds

This is one of the items that I really wish I had made a push for before I found out it was going away. We had a warlock on my original server that had a group helping him get this during BC but even at level 70 it took nearly a full group because of mechanics. I got the idea to go after it way too late and since I was alliance and he was horde I could not go with his group to go after some of the items. I kind of wish this would become available in some way other than classic but it adds to the rarity and awe since there are only a handfull of them in each region.
I love these videos, and this channel. I played during vanilla, but I was like 12 and a massive noob, so I didn't get to experience any of the end game. Hopefully that will change with Classic :D

Most people I knew got their staff in BC. Not so much because of the teleport but because a lot of people that worked towards it dropped it halfway because BC was coming out, then by the end of BC you could roll through naxx pretty easily with 25-40 ppl.
Pretty great video! Enjoyed remembering the classic adventures of Naxxramas and Ahn'Qiraj! While it's super rare to see Ateish, I wonder if we'll ever see Ateish' conjured swords again either by another demon or a look alike drop.

You left out one of the coolest aspects of the weapon. When equipped it gives you a large visual effect of ravens flying around you

There was a bit of a reason to go to Karazan before BC. Just before BC, mobs around Kara dropped various previously unobtainable loot, like new cloth tier and such.

I can't believe I've been a fan of Warcraft for all this time and I've never even seen the word "Ateish" before.
I feel like you could pretty much talk about legendary Warcraft lore forever and never stop having something to talk about.
37 pieces. They are secured deeply in my bank and will never be used. My guild did a lot of grinding back in those days and we did kind of settle on me trying to get it simply because noone else was interested in it. I never finished it since I stopped playing rather shortly after BC released (I never did the original Black Temple).

@@j1nz007 Nor really. Our guild disbanded mid BC and we didn't run AQ 40 after the seond week of release anymore. I never had a chance to get Atiesh.

Slight correction on C'Thun being killed after the nerf. Although it was done using a bug, there was a guild that did down him just hours to even a day before he was nerfed. Obviously this would not count as an "official" kill. But back then, you could say using any resource possible was just part of Vanilla. The bug used a bag pet (think it was an oozling) that put a debug on the boss which allowed them to bypass the tentacle room.
You know something's really unique when someone describes it as "pretty unique at the time" in Vanilla WoW.
I was at 37 pieces of the staff when the removal patch hit.. There are days when I still cry myself to sleep over that.
It's like how Liadrin had Quel'Delar up until they just recently changed it to a shield and sword of her own. Sadly Khad'gar's been in too many cutscenes to retcon him wielding a different staff. I guess Blizz Figured so very few bothered to obtain the staff, they could get away with ret-conning it to be in Khad'gar's possession.
I'm going to be new to WoW on Classic release and this is my long term goal. It kind of stinks that you need an entire guild to choose you... Going to have to get good fast I guess.

I've been playing since 2004 ,although off and on I wouldn't say I'm exactly a casual, but I'm still surprised at the sheer volume of content the game has. I had never heard about this until now. (Being able to acquire it that is. I'm familiar with it as lore obv)

Thumbs up for recognizing Thottbot. It's dead now and on these videos talking about vanilla I rarely hear anything about it but back in the day, it was one of the best reference guides.
