      I hear ya. I try to give myself a couple contracts of wiggle room and I put a SL in tradovate for a daily limit

    So initial is the minimum to open one contract and the day in how far it can go in drawdown before it’s margin called?

    • @tradingwithtravis6896
      @tradingwithtravis6896  Před 6 měsíci +4

      For example, if your day margin contract is $500 and you only have $500 in the account you’re going to get a margin call. And potentially liquidated initial margin is what you can hold over close

    hi boss, see i deposit $100 , and buy 1 contract at$50 then i still have $50 remain in my account. If value goes down suppose 10%, $45 left. Why do i get margin call . I still have &50 remaining left. So i guess if value goes 100 percent down , $50 eashed away , but i have another $50 , why did they give margin call??
    Or even , why do i get margin call, $50 was my money, i did not get from the broker.

    Help im just starting... So with the NQ the margin is $1000 then what is the "initial" $17380.00 amount right next to the $1000. On optimus futures they also called this number the "maintenance"??????? Am I right there is a daytrade margin a overnight margin and a initial margin?

    Hi guys, I know this is an old video. For any active futures traders… what is your safe bet for a margin requirement trading /ES contracts. Considering /ES can take on ranges between 30-100 per day.

      @@tradingwithtravis6896please explain to me man I don’t get it. ( I’m going to give and example with horrible risk management) . Let’s says my account is worth 10k. I’m trading nq which has a day trade margin of 1000$. Each trade I buy 5 contracts worth 1000$ every 10 points. I always have a 10 point stop. How many times would I have to hit stoploss in a row to get liquidated and what ? Someone please explain to me this is driving me crazy.

    this may seem like a dumb question after you just went over this but, I dont have to deposit the "initial margin"? 1166$ /mes because when ive been practice trading it shows the demo account the amount of the "initial margin" when you place a long or short. Maybe its because im always sim trading past hours. Because my plan is to trade when i get off of work because i have a full time job during the day so my only available times to trade would be from 6pm-midnight or what have you. Its the same when i place an order in TOS as well as Tradovate. It shows "cost of trade" then it subtracts that inital margin, Maybe im misunderstanding but that could be very possible because i just recently started scratching the surface of Trading.

      Every broker is different. They should always show you the initial margin and the day trading margin at least for tradovate on TOS I don’t recommend trading futures on it because it’s so expensive unless you’re swing trading micros. If you’re trading only in the daytime it’s cheaper. To have the initial margin is just to hold over the close to be able to absorb gaps and news spikes. Nighttime margin is usually a little bit more expensive than daytime but not too much. It seems they have changed things a little but usually it’s not too much more.

    Great information do you ever get into the futures currency's?

      I have before but it’s been a long time if I remember correctly the commissions are a little bit higher. I know some people who love to trade futures currencies though Especially Aussie dollar.

    I trade 15-30 second charts on nq. Ill risk 250-500 per trade with on average a 5-7 mini on nq. Very profitable but seems like I need 10s of thousands to do this on a personal no?
