@@VerticalEd Ever belayed before? after an EQUIPMENT malfunction the climber is lucky that the belayer had the fast reflexes to do something that not many people would have the knowledge about to understand the geometry of what he's doing. Most Belayers would likely have just stood and watched, or just stepped back and pulled. None would have the amazing reflexes to step back; and jump into the rock to take more slack. Truly uneducated judgmental people are my biggest pet peeve. If you want to be judgmental understand what you're watching lmao.
@@EUQuickNews as a professional climbing guide of over a decade I'm telling you that what the belayer did here is the specific thing that you're being trained to do as a belayer, nothing more, nothing less. The 'equipment failure' here is also just user error, which again, you should be ready for.

Imagine having a friend that knows what to do 🎉🎉🎉
he didnt stand there and watch it happen. he focused on saving his life. what a hero.
edit: i get it yall think he isnt a hero my gosh just give him the credit 💀
Not a hero
Not heroic, just a guy doing his job, just a guy reacting to something happening. That's what he was suppose to do. He did not knowingly put his life at risk to save the other guy, he just did start he was suppose to do. Such a simple concept that people don't see to understand. The word hero gets misused so much. Doesn't take away or make what he did any less, hero is just not the correct term to use here. Yet, like always I will get a bunch of low iq responses of people objecting to this simple non debatable thing I just said and explained. Let's here is low iqs, get those replies in.

His friend is attentive and responsive, not many people can respond like that.
Yea that’s why i don’t trust these rock climbing gyms where it’s some 90lb girl and she’s says she can balet me no problem. Sure in a static environment but there are several videos online now if a slip and the baleter is not quick enough or just doesn’t understand the mechanics outside of a classroom environment. This guy though I would love to go climbing wit.

@@latenttweet true, I remember a girl falling from kinda high at school because the other girl down there was clueless and let everything go. Thankfully there were big "mattresses" to catch her.

Surrounding yourself with people you trust with your life is a good thing.
As much as it is trust , it’s expectation.
When you are certified under something, wether it’s first aid, belaying , forklift, or many other certifications, you are expected to put your due diligence in to the best of your ability. Even if it’s someone who you have never met , or someone you hate.
The guy in the video did a great job with the situation he was in.
And not doing stupid things like this is also a great thing!
Surrounding yourself with people who DESERVE your trust is better.
