Great video I’m a budget surf fisherman this video helped me tremendously thank you
Nice run-down on this reel! Thanks 🙏🏼
Nicely done. Thank you so much.
One other interesting fact about Ozark Trail. It's great that it's made in the USA!
All of the new Ozark Trail reels, rods and combos are amazing for the price.
Definitely!
Great view!! I've been looking for a more complete review of this reel. Thanks!!
Glad it was helpful!
Love the great detailed reel reviews!
Glad you like them!
Great video, Thanks! I have been using the Barrier II for surf fishing for 2 seasons now. The barrier II is a good reel. I made some improvements to the drag, and added 1 bearing on the right side of the main gear (crank gear). I just found out about these Walmart OT reels a few days ago. I scored 4 of the 6000 size for a ridiculously low price. I didn't expect a whole lot for the cost, but wow, these are really built. The only drawback I see right away is the spool depth and shape, that may affect casting distance. For this low price, I am willing to give em a try. I have Grandkids, they will drop their rods, these will be perfect for them. If these really are made in USA, it's a double win! Thanks again.
Good Humor TY FisH'n since 8 yrs ole & Agree haven't hadda new reel N longtime now! My Okuma 50 series bait'runner only rig I useN SW. FW gotta Ozark spinner while back 2500 size on clearence. Was skeptical but runs GreaT TY 4 info
interesting.. fun stuff
You just can't beat the price.
I just looked at some of OT's saltwater products at my local Walmart, and they look very nice for the price! Definitely a purchase I will be making in the future.
Thanks for stopping by and dropping a comment!
in my experience reels often have screws/nuts which need to be lefty-tightly to prevent loosening under use due to rotation. So using reverse threads on certain fasteners makes the widget more secure/solid.
The OTSR is the discontinued tsunami guard. I have both and switched handles and spools, just to satisfy my curiosity.
Great review, thanks for the work you put into this. I can’t find the weight of this real anywhere. Do you know the weight for the 4000 series?
Thanks for your advice. I bought 2 of them just to use my Penns as wall decoration. P.s I use that tool piece to pop beer caps 😂
This is cool
Thanks buddy!
What size washer Would you recommend for the 4000 and the 6000
Does this reel allowing swapping handle to other side ?
I have lots of $30 Daiwa Samurai combos and considering what I paid and the fact that they have their limitations but still work well after 6 years of many hours over that time they don't owe me anything. But in the reality no, they are not going to give you the quality or durability you'll get from higher end reel such as the BG.
Saw the barrier and ozark , noted they both had seals and bought both was looking to pairing with a berkley one piece amp rod. If the reels hold up could be a great combo.
Sounds like a powerful combo to me
@@CastFromTheHip only taken them out once so far, yet I am impressed for the price. Can not beat it, can give higher end combos a run for their money. Have not opened to see differences as the tsunami says it has 7 seals. Only time will tell longevity with some basic maintenance. For something to grab and throw in back of your pickup definitely a must.
I have a 7 ft rod from them really like it
you guys are lucky, you get a variety of good budget reels to choose from in my country we only get penn, shimano and daiwa chinese knockoffs. The only thing that's great about it is the shipping doesn't cost as much as the reel itself😔
Was that colby covington???
can i just remove one washer and add a carbon one
Hi great video thanks I am looking to get ont for my 10ft surf spinning rod do that come big enough for a surf rod thanks
Look at the 6000 model
So the ozark trail reel is really just a copy of the tsunami shield. Same proprietary tool and same amount of seals. Very similar looks too.
Does anyone know the IPT on these?
question if you had to chose penn wrath or tsunami barr is the Ozark Trail better ????
Penn Wrath
This is a super nice reel, I like it but its better suited for Freshwater
Your brake down reminds me of "label slapping" of craftsman.........they never had a factory only 3rd party builders who would add a sticker that said craftsman....sent it to sears
100%
No longer available on walmart website. They like disappeared overnight I was debating getting one then bam they were gone.
Crazy, hopefully they get them back.
Same thing happened with the OT prop bait.
I just bought the 6000 for surf fishing, I hope it works for me : )
It has a lot of seals, I think it should do pretty well!
@@CastFromTheHip I ended up returning it. The bail wouldn't close with the spool all the way out. The bail would hit the top of the spool. Bummer. I went back to Daiwa BG series.
Oh well, I tried.
Can't seem to be able to find it on walmarts website.
Weird. Thanks for letting us know.
I know this is old, but it depends on your local Walmart. I lived in Oregon and when I would go on the website it wasnt there. When I changed my walmart to one in Florida then I could buy it and even have it shipped.
Am I missing something with this reel? It seems you cannot swap which side the reel goes on. Therefore, you are forced to fish left handed. If I am missing something, any help will be appreciated
You can swap sides. The handle is also the screw. It has two sets of threads one standard and one reversed so you have to turn clockwise to remove from the left side and then clockwise to tighten on the right side. Same with the screw cap on the opposite side. Hope this helps.
@@B_Enek0 Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, when you swap sides with this reel, it causes the anchor screw to be offset a little over an 1/8 of an inch. This in turn leaves the unit susceptible to water as well as just doesn't look or feel right. This is why I posed the question because I haven't encountered a spinning reel that cannot be swapped. However, I'm just not sure this particular unit is meant to be unless I am missing a part that comes extra with the unit.
@@N_Zaner it does stick out but this affect the seals. The screw and handle post do not have any seals or gaskets and doesn’t contribute to sealing. The seals work independently but you could also apply threadlocker as the screw does.
@@B_Enek0 I appreciate your responses. Have a great week. ✌️
Bought two (4000,6000), but gotta hit it with the return. The bails take tremendous amount of force to close!
close bail with hand not reeling.
@@gabrielM1111 Seems like the way. Had a quite few windknots on the 4000.
@@alanltdu dont overfill the braid. stop filling at 1.5mm from the inner edge of the ramp around the top of the spool. windknots happen to any reel that is overspooled because line comes off too easily when casting. Also never reel in completely slackline you must pinch the line and reel it in
the tool to open up the body is fustrating. why didn't they just machine two opposing flat points on the bodiesextension of the body
I bet tsunami makes that reel.
I think you're right, very very similar.
Well the recession is killing me . Can you give me one of your Penns.
Shoot me an email with an address...maybe a reel will show up.
Email sent.
@@CastFromTheHip email sent on the 2nd of September.
@@chriss8206 Got it!
@@CastFromTheHip that's what a cool MO Fo would do Fo Sho! 👍
Way to slide some politics in the beginning lol.
