Ryan Gosling stars as a Hollywood stunt driver for movies by day and moonlights as a wheelman for criminals by night. Though a loner by nature, “Driver” can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan), a young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband. After a heist goes wrong, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman). Soon he realizes the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash and is forced to shift gears and go on the offense.

Everyone talks about the sudden out of the blue violence, but no one talks about the real reason it feels so shocking. Most people are used to sudden violent scenes by now. But it’s rare to find scenes in action films that use SILENCE this effectively. If feels shocking and real because that’s exactly what it would sound like during and after and event like that. No score to try to stir up an emotion, nothing. Just silence and a ringing in your ears, left to contemplate the fact that you just witnessed three murders in front of you.

We all know it's just a movie.
But if a movie makes a scene with 2 shotgun guys trying to kill one unarmed guy and the movie stages it in a way to show him collect himself before dispatching said shotgun guys we can say he acted bravely. Haha can’t argue that, but at the same time that’s the brilliance of Gosling’s character as the driver and the unknown backstory. They had no idea who he really was and that he was such a violent and cold blooded guy. We as the audience don’t really even know which was a cool aspect of the movie.

The fact that the girls phone rang before they started shooting probably means that she was suppose to do something to distract him or give her some sort of cue to do something, it’s just the luck of the timing that the phone buzzed and the Driver picked it up, giving him a few seconds of reaction time.

Of course, you've got to have cops that care -- and a D.A. who will prosecute (because frankly, a lot of vigilantes have broad support among the community and the whole thing will turn into a media circus). Some places, the jury might straight-up nullify that shit.

There is a video circulating of an old man who shot dead a female burglar who begged for her life and that she was pregnant after running from his home, he's on camera stating he shot her anyway... He wasn't charged with anything.

This is no affirmation of your misogyny. Plenty of males would have responded in similar way if violently presented with his advantages. There's no special feminine brain chemistry on display in this scene. The violence he showed her only confirmed that he was willing to hurt/torture her for the truth and her femininity and silence could no longer buy her any presumption of innocence or protection from his ruthless determination to survive. She responded logically according to the more favorable implied terms of is offer and was portrayed as clearly no stranger to being strong-armed by males to participate in their crimes and probably otherwise do their bidding...thats the world the character lived in. A world only a few showers away from the animal kingdom.
