Bodega is a little corner store, similar to convenience stores. Very common in New York City. They often are open 24-hours or until very late. You can get just about anything there. From food, to batteries, to cleaning products, lottery tickets, you name it.
In Latin countries, like Mexico, you can find them almost anywhere

It's such an AMAZING movie all around!!! Welcome to the Latino immigrant experience in the US. As a Latina immigrant myself, I cried in about 60% of the movie, LOL. I was lucky enough to see this one on Broadway, after it won the Tony, and it was amazing then, but there's something about the grandness of the movie that makes me so proud to be Latina! Alza la Bandera!!
SAME! I just watched this in theaters today and I was emotional. I'm Mexican-American, I'm not New York, never been to New York, I don't even know anyone from New York but I was so proud to see people that look like me, in a musical, singing and talking in Spanish and English. And that scene with Carnaval del Barrio, I felt seen!

It's even applicable to just the immigrant experience overall. It's the non-latin Caribbean immigrant experience for me personally. Neighbors all the same
