    The descriptions you gave on the series were incredibly accurate. I started watching Ultraman through R/B and Taiga. I think they were good series for me to start out with because they were pretty self contained and a little bit light hearted compared to other series. Next I watched the original Ultraman then Geed, Orb, Z, Seven, Tiga, Trigger, Ginga/Ginga S, Dyna, Return Of Ultraman and now currently Ace, in that order. I liked going back and forth from older seasons to newer ones. Watching all the series really makes you realize how interconnected all the series are.

      Thank you! Yea going back and forth can be fun, I've personally gone from beginning up but still watched things out of order from time to time just to see how different the visuals and narratives have changed.

    I'd personally say that Gaia and Mebius are good starting points, I might be a bit biased since those are my favorite seasons. However even if Gaia is part of the TDG trilogy it is still standalone in terms of story (I haven't seen all of Tiga and Dyna but from I have seen they have no impact on Gaia's story) it has a ton of cool action, great characters, and a bit of a older heisei Kamen Rider edge without going to over the top. I can say the same thing about Mebius to a degree, but that show has a lot of fan service and callbacks to the showa seasons which even if I didn't fully get were still very interesting without feeling to overbearing, basically making it the Gokaiger of Ultraman. For the newer stuff, X, Orb, Geed, and especially Z are all really solid shows that are short and very accessible, they may not have as much of a budget they still have a lot of passion behind them, plus kinda like Mebius they all play with the franchise continuity in various ways. My last suggestion and while this is not necessarily an Ultraman show (or even a tokusatsu show in general), SSSS Gridman has so many small easter eggs too Ultraman seasons and maintains the same tone and style of the Ultraman franchise as well as it's sorce material: the original Gridman, making it a good gateway to watching Ultraman or even Gridman and a fun ride for long time fans. Aside from that all I can say is like mentioned in the video, go with whatever appeals to you, and don't let stickler's turn you away from any show cause "your preferred season isn't like X or Y season, so it isn't REAL Ultraman and you're not a REAL fan" or anything along those lines.

      I agree with basically everything lol. For sure though, I hope this helps people feel more comfortable picking what they want and not feeling some type of way because it's different than other people.

    I know this vid came out before Ultraman Rising, but that was me & my dad's first introduction to the Ultraman series. we absolutely loved it and are thinking about going and watching the other stuff as well. this video was pretty helpful on giving me advice on where to start, I think me and my dad will start with Ultraman (66) and then Ultraman Tiga. main reason I'm picking those 2 is because I like the idea of a mix of silly and mature episodes. plus along side 66 Tiga was in the game Gigabash.
    (which was technically my first introduction to Ultraman, as I played the game first. but I didn't really play them until I saw Rising.)

      I'll check out the Netflix anime as well later on. and maybe also Shin Ultraman, but if Shin Ultraman is anything like Shin Godzilla then I'm probably not going to like it, because I'm going to be honest although I've been a Godzilla fan practically my whole life I hate Shin Godzilla (the movie). the godzilla scenes are really cool, but the humans are so boring and uninteresting to me. of course no offence to those who do like Shin godzilla, I'm just not a fan.

    I'm currently watching Ultra Q. I'm mainly watching it as a way of practicing my Japanese listening. I'm amazed on how good it is, considering it came out several decades ago.

    I’m a massive Heisei Godzilla fan so what would be the best pick for me to start ultraman I’ve wanted to watch it for a long time but I haven’t gotten around to it but I’m thinking of starting with the original 1966 which I assume are pretty great as everyone describes but as it’s in the Showa era im worried it won’t live up to my taste but if anyone who is an ultraman aficionado let me know what you think is best for me

    • @allofilms2923
      @allofilms2923 Před rokem +1

      Don’t get me wrong I love Showa era kaiju stuff but my preferred taste is in the feeling of what heisei godzilla brought to the table

      @allofilms2923 Před rokem +1

      I also enjoy darker tones like godzilla 1954 and shin Godzilla I don’t dislike any kaiju movies really I think all have their charms but some I prefer more

    Ultraman is for sure a franchise that rewards you for seeing everything it has to offer in order, as you probably experienced by watching everything in order yourself, but as you say doing so is probably not for everyone. As someone who has seen at least most of every single ultraman product too, there are definitely some places I would recommend to newcomers, and others I for sure wouldnt. I too am a proponent of the 'watch everything from the beginning' crowd, because of ultramans intrinsically multiversal storytelling, being able to appreciate details from older material cropping up in newer ones, feeling the hype that comes from a returning character or ultraman and just overall seeing both the amazing and the terrible the franchise has to offer. But aside from that, X and Max come to mind as great starting points. Max is very much a back to basics season that provides viewers with a very showa like experience of sometimes comedic, sometimes deep episodes, with not a single one I didnt find enjoyable, with the benefit of more modern visuals which matters to some people. Plus max is sorely underrated community so I feel needs more attention. Call me biased, but X was my first ultraman which I watched as it aired in 2015, and it was amazing. It very much sets itself up as another somewhat basic show, but for a new fan it's perfect as it gives you the feel of the shows that came before it without throwing anything too heavy at you. That and the multiple ultra guest appearances were not only organically implemented, but serve as great previews and tease you into looking back at all their shows and films too, which worked for me and opened my eyes to even more of the franchise. As an aside, the netflix anime is one I too would recommend as a starting point, but with the caveat thatthe person interested goes in with the knowledge and understanding to not expect the rest of the franchise to be exactly like it, what with mech suits, human sized fights, etc.
    When it comes to things I personally wouldnt recommend, not in a way that people arent allowed to watch it or anything but they're moreso things that people would be left really confused over, are ones that I feel I'm going to get cremated for saying. First of them is the mega monster battle movie, primarily due to the film being part of the then ongoing ultra galaxy story with the zap crew, which the film expects you to know who the characters are in order to understand their relationships and why we should care for them. In addition, people tend to say the film is good at "giving an introduction to every ultraman " which is just plain false, since nearly every ultraman role in this movie is to be cannon fodder to make the new villain look cooler and make zero look better then them. Also I just find the movie plain badly written. The one I wouldn't reccomend is _really_ gonna get me in trouble, and that's geed. This is mainly due to how geed is the finale of a seven year long, multiple installment spanning storyline, which if you're coming into for the first time here, the final part of it, then you'll be left scratching your head the entire time, and from my experience that's exactly what happened to people I know who saw geed as their first. Again, its not that you cant watch geed as your first, but its definitely you'll be missing out on whats happening and why the series is important without seeing the zero and belial conflict unfold over their multiple movies.
    Anyway ye, the end

      @evangodzilla  Před 2 lety

      Yea the Galaxy Films...definitely not something I'd start with. Not even for story, but because the green screen usage is atrocious. It completely removes the charm that the practical effects have had since the original, and forces you to focus more on the plot which as you said, that first one is incredibly lacking.

    I just got into Tokusatsu and have been binge watching Kamen rider. And have now watch all the Heisei and Reiwa era Kamen rider after a year. I can't wait to start watching Ultraman it looks like a lot of fun to watch. I think I'm gonna try to start with the Shin Ultraman movie once I get to Reiwa era Kamen rider

    I started at the beginning with Ultra Q, and have been watching each show in sequence. I'm now near the end of Ultraman Taro. Several monsters in Taro use farting as a weapon, which is a gas. lol. I have everything released so far by Mill Creek. As a kid in the 60s I watched the American dub of Ultraman (1966). Ultra Q had two American dubs produced. CBS, which owns The Twilight Zone, paid for the first, and United Artists, which produced Zone, paid for new dubs. In the end both companies backed out of distributing Ultra Q in the States. A handful of the American dubs exist in the hands of private collectors on 16mm film (the series was filmed in 35mm).

    Man. That’s a lot. Can’t promise that I’ll invest in every one of these. But I will definitely start with the Netflix adaptation since that’s the more modern one and a new season dropped recently. Looks pretty good.

      @evangodzilla  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh no the whole point is you don't have to invest if you don't want to. It's just to find a nice entry point and it sounds like you have, so that's perfect 😊

    ny first series was the anime then i found ultraman Z on youtube after that I started watching the original series I have no issues with how old things look but it was kinda wierd that older series were just formula some random plot and kaiju fight at the end but I still enjoy a classic and leo is honeslty my favorite from back then

    Great video, I definitely agree with what you said. Personally I saw Trigger without having seen Tiga (still haven’t yet) and thought it was a quite enjoyable series even just standalone. I know some people hate Trigger strongly but that could be due to expecting it to be just like Tiga as well as coming just after Ultraman Z, which has just had all kinds of success. I’d probably suggest something like Nexus, Ginga or Orb myself to someone else just starting out based off of my own personal taste but I’d have little to no objections to someone starting with Trigger.

    • @evangodzilla
      @evangodzilla  Před 2 lety +1

      Yea I'm sure Trigger was definitely roasted for people thinking it would be Tiga. But it's also Tsuburaya's fault for calling it, "New Generation Tiga"
