  • Doing a full review on the Echo 56v mower, the DLM-2100SP. Talking about how the mower operates, some interesting features it has, some likes and dislikes, and how I would use this machine moving forward.

    At the moment for that size of machine, I have two Honda walk behinds, one is commercial the other a premium residential and both are used for my lawn mowing jobs. I would consider this mower if I had to stop using one of those units as a good portion of my mowing I use my riders.

    I'm 70 yo female with a small city lot, around 4000 sf to mow. Lot is mostly level but has lumps, bumps, and ankle-breaking holes that appear to be old mole runs. I struggle with breathing these days, having been diagnosed with copd and asthma. To add to my woes, my shoulder, forearm and hand have been having shooting pains, possibly a pinched nerve. I was concerned about whether I could still pull the rope on my 12 yo gas Husqvarna, non SP mower. I recently bought an Echo DLM-2100SP mower. I have only used it once so far, but I am totally loving it. It's so easy to use and it sails right over the hole ridden uneven turf of my backyard. Said holes routinely swallowed the wheels of my Husqvarna, and forward momentum was immediately halted while I tried to coax the heavy machine out of the ruts. I'm actually not dreading, but rather looking forward to my next mowing with my Echo. I've watched a number of these reviews by professional yard guys, who "aren't that impressed". But don't forget that there's a segment of the population that appreciates something that can get the job done, and done in a manner that is less physically taxing, and requires little to no maintenance compared to a gas engine. And, I can fold it and stand it on its hind end to save space in my ultra tiny garage!

      It is a great machine for a homeowner. It is true that it’s not a professional / commercial machine, and if you’re buying this expecting to use it like a Toro proline or one of those you’re going to be disappointed; but for a homeowner it’s amazing. And for what I use it for, a few small backyards each week / very small properties it really excels.

    Great review!
    How does the self-propelled affect battery life and what would you change to make it a 10 out of 10 for a homeowner ?

      Depends how much ya using it, I’ve found a lot of times I just use the self propel to go uphill or through thick turf, if I’m on a downhill or mostly level w thin turf I can just let it off, the mower is so lightweight going downhill just have to walk with it and on level ground it’s super easy to push can almost push it faster than it goes 🤣 that and the turbo mode both decrease batt life considerably if using them non stop. I’ve found that unlike the 2600s, this mower doesn’t have that “max out” feature or whatever they call it, where ya get max power even as the batt starts to drain. Once ya hit 2 bars ya can tell a slight difference in speed, the self propel doesn’t move as fast. When you’re at 1 bar it goes pretty slow and when it switches between batteries you can definitely tell, it isn’t seamless.
      I’d make it a better propel system with more speed for a 10/10, I suppose it is doable since it’s just two small electric motors on either wheel as I can tell, there’s no belts or anything like a gas powered one has. It is RWD that is nice, just isn’t very powerful unless you’re on the concrete.

      I forgot to ask the other day. Will it run on a 2.5 battery and how well does it mulch?

    • @BigRedServicesLLC
      @BigRedServicesLLC  Před 11 měsíci

      @@sololawnprofessional it will run on the 2.5 ah but not for very long I imagine. That battery is best suited for trimmer / edger / hedge trimming and the 5.0 for this mower and the blower / chain saws. It mulches just fine for weekly cut lawns, for biweekly / overgrown yards it doesn’t cut quite as well, or even in very thick turf grass it does struggle a bit.

    I'm thinking about getting the non-self propelled version. How do you feel about the machine now after owning it for 2 months?

      It’s great for what I need it for, but it is limited in some ways, I wouldn’t use it as my main 21” if you have a lot of larger properties ya need to mow with, it doesn’t do very well in thick overgrown grass like some biweekly yards either.

      Now that you've owned the mower for 6 months any change in your opinion of the mower? I'm still on the fence about getting one.
