Who pull more - Rock Climber vs Strong Man - Magnus Midtbø

Magnus almost doing a +70kg pullup is just so unfathomably insane
I managed 3 the other day and felt like a tank 😂
In high school I could do some dips with an extra 90lbs (165 lb body weight at the time).
Been a long time though
@@soldierx345 very impressive for a high schooler!
But that's plus 150lb (70kg) up down and he weighs about that much, very impressive.
It is but if u count bodyweight+ added weight, strongman simply pulls more
why is every encounter on this channel so wholesome and humble?
Magnus magic I guess
Heavy weights, small egos
big guys aren't typically as crazy as the WWE tries to make you think they are.
Quality people attract quality people.

PS: Big guys are usually, like dogs, very nice.
cause most people just are
"You ready for the next exercise?"
"No"
"Okay, let's go!"
No ego, no cursing just friendship
Thats the kind of competition we want
No shouting, no pageantry, just effort!

Mustn’t have watched the video
Body language says otherwise!
Taking Bicep measurements with a lock tape at the beginning killed me 😂
I immediately ran to get a tape and have my wife measure mine lol. I have 2cm to go to match Magnus. NOW I HAVE A GOAL!
That's so Magnus.
You'll get it within a month or something @@lawrencesounddesign1862
Oh it was stupidiously awesome
Magnus doing 140 kg on the pulldown machine is absolutely insane at his bodyweight. His pullups with 70kg added weight is also bonkers.
I can do 140Kg on the pulldown machine at 73Kg bodyweight but can only do 1 pull-up with 40Kg. Weird.
@@LavaFlame-wm6msu probably can’t do any of that
@@LavaFlame-wm6ms Machines are often tuned, leveraged or pulleyed differently. It's very inaccurate to compare them.
Magnus is a monster! Pull up with 70kg is anazing.
incredible willpower
@@high-captainofangbandgothm3926 Uff... if only willpower would be enough....hahaha, but still amazing strength level.
Considering his age it's amazing to see him be able to do that.
anazing indeed 😛
@@1dameister1 His age? He's only 35, fgs. No reason why he shouldn't be strong
@@1dameister1his age lol he’s not even 40
"Because you felt that the heavier stone was heavier?" 😆
I love how magnus just always invites strongmen😂
And they're always really cool people too.
Instant friendship. These two seem to appreciate each others unique physical abilities more then their own.
Imagine someone as big as Cim with the equal bodyweight power as Magnus. A 300kg pull down would be ludicrous
Its andrew smaev bro, 300+kg combined weight on kinda clean pull up
He did+170 at 135kg bw not so long ago
ive seen a guy on instagram do 220kg for reps on those heavy duty pulldown machines, he's not massive either, i think he weighs 110kg he's one of those guys that can rip the top section of a coke can if anyones seen that. but yeah smaev would do 300kg like the other guy said
They're both insanely strong, it's just one's a strongman, and the other is a relative strongman
Strong man vs strongman, I like it.
Magnus is pretty strong even measured absolutely
These two make a great duo. They are super fun to watch.
such a humble guy. Magnus keeps picking the best guests
i guess u didnt even watch the video if u think that he was humble :D
He is SO humble. I hope he wins in whatever he competes at.
1:42 Cant believe how small Magnus looks 😂😂
And he is 6'1"
I thought he was like 5’7”
@@akg1301 magnus is not 6'1" lol i think he's 5'7" or 5'8"
@@UserNamechannel you don't need to think he said in his earlier videos that he is 6'1"
which lmao, i remember him saying around 5'8@@akg1301
Magnus, as a Norwegian I can say you are a national sports treasure! As it goes with Norway vs Sweden and our brotherly banter I have to say this was awesome to watch. This Swede is clearly a national sport treasure to Sweden and it was awesome to see you two humble guys collaborating! Keep it up!
Magnus - please please bring back old videos of just you and sometimes Marte just climbing at you home gym late at night with voiceovers. This new stuff is cool but that old stuff was the reason i watch this channel and i wish you could bring that back
Best comedic duo ever. Really enjoyable video Magnus.
Magnus' technique on the stones improved as he did it. He was rolling the stones to his chest with an overhand grip, which is more efficient than doing it with arms on its side.
Martins Licis taught Magnus how to do that, in a video from last year. He coached Magnus to put a 225lb stone over the bar
REAL WORLD STRENGTH! This is the best strength and fitness video. Shows how important mindset and friendship can be. I'm 77 now but still train hard and videos like this help to inspire me. Thank you
I was watching the Rogue Record Breakers competition at the Arnold Strongman Classic 2024 a couple of weekends ago, and Cim apparently hadn't signed up but was just hanging around, and asked if he could jump in and try one of the grip events, no warmup or preparation. He came close to the top of the pack. Recognized him right away from your video, was funny to see. Guy just waltzed in and nearly won
I appreciate the subtle discussion on how exhausting it is to carry around so much weight in muscle mass. It isn't often discussed, and the general assumption seems to be that the more muscular a person is, the easier they can carry their own body weight.
It is INSANE that Magnus can do a pull up with 70 kgs added weight. o.O
'can you imagine how tired i am' hit different lol. i love the duo, magic
The strength professional rock climbers and gymnasts have for their body weights are ludicrous.
Definitely. Although in a very specific way. Magnus did a video with one of the best climbers in the world, who couldn't bench press more than 60kg. Magnus also benches like 70. You can see here they're only doing back-dominant exercises, because that's where Magnus is good. In climbing actually having strong legs and chest is a minus, since it only weighs you down. So his strength relative to body weight is actually, ironically, due to him being weak in everything that's not needed for climbing.
@@kamshiktrue, but maybe weak is still the wrong word to use here :)
@@matschbirne5363 Well he himself admits he has weak legs and benching 70 as a pro athlete who can pulldown into the hundreds does mean you have weak chest/front delts and probably tricepes
@@kamshik I mean, your points are solid, but also Magnus still did some pretty hefty running and military challenges that definitely still require a lot of strength and endurance legwise, at least compared to say, another climbing athlete. Magnus likes to say he's weak at everything a bit lol =D
The way bodybuilders train is for hypertrophy. They are not maximizing the performance their muscles can have by how they train. When you train for performance like strength or muscular endurance, every size increase in muscle is secondary to the maximum output or long term duration you have. Rock climbing and Gymnasts require muscular endurance for their sports, once you can perform a task in the sport, you repeat it over and over to build the endurance. Bodybuilding does not focus on function of the body. When I used to work in construction, I did all the labor jobs and did them well. The bodybuilder juice heads would only do labor when the boss came around. Their entire personality is like how they train. They just do everything for appearances. It's like a female mindset in how they seduce others. Bodybuilders have no respect for the mechanics and long term objective when it comes to fitness. They are responsible for all the bad things about fitness like roid use and toxicity of gossip and bad mouthing others in the industry. Strong man training also has incredible value, it's just unfortunate that the sport doesn't get as much coverage compared to bodybuilding. If more men trained like strong men or gymnasts. Our society would have strong leaders with integrity. Because bodybuilding is so popular, our society is the same, full of actors, cheaters and fake leaders.
This was a great collab! I really like how these two Scandinavians vibe together and hope they’ll do more in the future.
Love this collab! all the vids with Cim are my favorites!😊
Magnus so humble he tries to beat the humble alligations by saying "not trying to be humble"
This is the best fitness duo ive seen
I love bros being supportive of each other. This video is like being welcomed into a gym session between friends.
Glad to see Kim in more videos
For atlas stones, Magnus's total of 10 stones is equal to 700kg lifted, whereas Cim lifted 7x160kg = 1120kg. If Magnus tried lifting 1120kg in a minute (regardless of the weight per repetition) - he'd be gassed too :D
Anyway, loving this series! Please make more!
Finally some bouldering that's a challenge for Magnus :D
Awesome vibes. Bring this collab more often. Great combo.
Gotta Say: This is among, if not the, most wholesome competitive fitness content i have seen^^
Yes! This was the video I've been waiting for. It would've been fun to see you try a strongman lift such as the log press, but heck, this was super cool!
That atlas stone for reps was insane.
i love to see that drive still there KING keep pushing
impressive. for lifting the stones the height of the platform should also be adjusted to the lifter's height. much harder for shorter Magnus :) well done though
Good point.
Great work on the Atlas Stone Magnus! And Incredible power in the pullup!
love watching these. both humble and entertaining.
What an enjoyable, affable character Cim is. Bravissimo.
Cim is easily my favorite of all Magnus's collabs so far.
I'm 120 kg 1.80 like his smaller version and i totally understand his struggle. We consume twice energy but our lungs aren't twice larger so when we unleash full power we have like few minutes run time. We have twice muscles but our joints aren't twice larger so they become weak points for injury. I'm 100% sure he could pull more but he didn't want to risk a wrist injury..
bro, you are 1,8m not 2m+ xdd
@@milliondollarart So? I still look much larger than Magnus especially upper body like traps..
It would have been interesting to see some one finger lifts. Magnus is the goat.
Obviously the efficency gets lost when you get heavier. You both are impressive athletes.
You guys are a super duo, I just love your videos 😀
Amazing video , such a humble man
Take this guy with you and go see Shaw for grip stuff! Shaw would love it! 💪😎🤟
Brian Shaw has a way of making extremely large, strong men look weaker than him, lol
I love the look on your face when you’re playing with the tacky! Genuine enjoyment lol!!
You two honestly already look like best friends. Must be that Sweden-Norway sibling gene.
Such a great video Magnus! keep up the good work:D you really should get Cim to try out Brian Shaw's grip stone challenge (the small & heavy ones he got) I think Cim would really love& crush that challenge. Cheers
Cheers Magnus.. great content as always.
This strongman dude is a cool guy!! More collabs together please!
You are getting along well! Trevligt att se!
Take me as a student magnus.
In what? Pinoy ping pong?
Hats off to magnus just started to know you and now I'll start to watch your every video❤
Alove your content bro - both you lads are beasts
watching these videos really puts it into perspective that there is a sweet spot when it comes to the human body weight to strength ratio. The stronger you get the the more diminishing returns it seems
Cim should be in Strongman contests!!
Seeing Magnus do all those weight exercizes is really something, I can't fathom how much earlier I would max out
Both of you are insanely strong
And you are so nice and friendly😊
Magnus's strength per bodyweight ratio is insane - no wonder he can do 120 boulders in one session. I've tried to do 20 of the mid-difficulty routes in my gym (around V3-V5) in one session and it was really really hard to get them all.
Magnus had the right idea. Static friction is stronger than sliding friction. Being able to keep the sled moving actually makes it easier.
Also, given it was a soft surface, the rolling resistance is higher for a heavier weight. His competitor was literally pulling up hill. I had Magnus inked in for the win from the get go.
Another great video, thank you, Magnus! And of course thanks to Mr. Johansson, he seems like a true gentle giant. It is really interesting to see the power/weight comparision.
That was so o much fun to watch!
I love this dude.
you should review the city climbing gym in CT New Haven, it's a small rustic gym, and the atmosphere is amazing on the weekends, the owners and employees are welcoming, and it's amazing an amazing place to climb at.
Pound for pound, smaller person always has the advantage of basic physics. Remember how a 13 year old beat Magnus on numerous challenges last year.
Actually a lighter person has always advantage to move his own body mass, while the heavier one has always advantage to move "external" mass (mass moves mass)
@@GiordanoFanti I'm talking about as a percentage of body mass. This is why insects are magentudes stronger than larger animals, pound for pound, able to lift and carry many times their body weight, like how an ant can haul a giant object many times its mass over long distances as if its nothing. It comes down to basic physics. The larger the animal, the less it work it can do in relation to its mass. Like, many animals are so big that they barely even lift their own weight. Meanwhile, smaller animals can easily carry their own weight along with multiples of additional mass. It's just basic physics, yo.
@@KittyBoom360 Yes that's true. Smaller animals has more efficiency that's a fact. I can confirm it as i'm a small guy (50kg x 1,55) and i can bench twice my weight 😂
Anyway even "mass moves mass" is basic physics, if you get more mass you'll be able to lift more. The downside is that you'll lose efficiency to move your body (and you'll consume even more energy)
@@GiordanoFanti Agreed, that's all I was saying. This video seemed to highlight how the smaller guy did better, but that's expected. The smaller guy has the physical advantage in relative terms. A fair comparison would be logarithmic, not linear.
Enjoyed these videos,
MMMMMAAGGG!!! YOU CRUSHED THOSE ATLAS STONES!!! Cim is an accurate representation of the strongman community. Everyone knows that the strongest muscle is the heart
Very different strength profiles, but equally just as impressive. Magnus - so strong for your body weight and Cim equally as strong for your body weight. I'm just in awe of both of you and your power and strength! 🙂😎😎and ❤to you both!
Brilliant video!
Used to watch this guy when he had less that 20k subscribers now he's here damn
That fact that you are able to compete with theses guy is insane. as someone new to hitting the guy regularly it amuses me that many of your lifts I can compare to, well when I uses pounds and you use kilos and disregards the difference in them.
"you have more juice?"
"no!"
"TOO DAMN BAD!"
Awesome idea! 🙂
Just lifting, isn't that exciting - other than just a show off how strong Cim is. But do the lifts relative to the body weight is a whole other thing.
Magnus very fun video. Pound for pound you are a beast! Your guest was fun to watch also.. very very strong man. Impressive.. both of you. Hello from Florida.
Magnus is strong af, its impressive.
Strong as ever, would be awesome to see on some outdoor rock!
If no one has mentioned it yet. Matching his weight in pull ups "Chins in sweden" is waaay way harder then having that mass in body weight.
Now what is the golden ratio I dont know. BUT IT IS NOT THE SAME! Adding 70 kg and lifting 140 kg in total, I mean, probably is close to being around the same performance!
“I feel like I can taste blood, in my throat, little bit”: Magnus Midtbø 2024
Like everyone said, love this cos two incredible athletes competing hard doing crazy weight, but no chest-bumping screaming ego BS, just humble and friendly fun.
a random person who *looks* like magnus probably would have been closer on the sled lol
but its pulling strength relative to bodyweight, we knew magnus would crush that
2 legends!
Let's be honest Magnus. The natural power you possess is world class, but this guy...
Law of diminishing return in action.
Love your videos magnus
The disbelief in "I can't even move it" got me. Awesome video as always, Magnus!
Magnus is SO strong for his body size. And he appears to only be getting stronger! These two guys pair so well together, they are so gentle and happy together. I enjoy these videos. Chill, fun times, no egos.
Take me as a student magnus
I will consider it
@@Last_Chance. me ttooo pls, if u ever come to the netherlands,

Take me as your student, Magnus.
@@OriginalPuro Magnus told me that correcting children's grammar online doesn't make you smarter, it's just kinda lame actually.
More Magnus video idea: get some old slopers, set something you fall off, then retry it with that strongman tacky.
That’s some heavy af weight on the lat pull down, both did awesome and “got more juice?”… “no” got me 😂
Got what I expected but not what I dreamed for, the Magnus pickup artist ark
Magnus is speedrunning these collabs now… the personal touch from a few years ago is harder to come by now 😢
Awesome collab.
Everyone is impressed with him doing the +70 pull up, and here I am, suffering at watching the ball exercise. That was intense, Magnus seemed as if he was gonna pop a vein or something, so so much respect for these 2!
That was cool! Friendly competition, appropriate use of ego. I would've like to have seen to the big guy pull Magnus' sled weight
"... ruin the climbing holds"; Exactly what I was thinking.. The tools used for each school of practice have such a massive difference.
Magnus is an absolute beast, hands down the peak of human physic
We need a GIF of magnus doing the sticky hands. We need it right now
