I took the Stanford course through iTunes U a few years ago. I managed to build the calculator app, but was overcome by memory management and other more advanced subjects. Going to give it another try. After all, that was one of my excuses for buying a new Mac.
I have not tried to build an app. I’ve been interested in programming for a few years and finally built up the courage to get past Hello world and the very basics. I did the Swift Playground Learn to Code guides and really enjoy it. I downloaded Xcode just to take a peak and was so immediately overwhelmed and intimidated.
Chris, I wanted to thank you for your content. I recently found you when researching Xcode/Swift as a hobby and something to add to my programming skill set. Your videos have been very informative and very easy to understand. I appreciate the way you take time to demonstrate the steps as you discuss them. My first video that I am specifically referring to was your “How to make your first app” (the War Card Game). Please keep it up!
Well, I downloaded a course on Udemy by a very popular instructor. However, the lectures aren’t updated. Which makes it 10x harder than it should be. So here I am!
Teaching tech stuff on the Internet is complicated and becomes outdated very quickly. This June, Apple will be on stage with WWDC22 and this is the kind of event that will Make or Break our existing videos. Fingers crossed! @AdrienVillez
Hi Chris, I’ve been wanting to try to develop an app for years, but every time I try to get started, I usually get overwhelmed, and I never get much further than planning the app on paper. Watching this video and downloading Xcode is as far as I’ve gotten, and I’m really excited. Thanks for great and helpful content!
I have 6 days experience working with XCode and Swift and I am thrilled. I watched much of a previous tutorial but this one is right on target for where I am in the learning process. In the learning process there is first ignorance followed by a little learning which is followed by confusion and with additional learning, hopefully comes enlightment. I have been waiting on this tutorial. Already it is answering many questions that I have had. I will watch it all.
just started learning python in the uni as an extra course and i'm amazed at how much i actually like it. so decided to look at different programming possibilities.
Great video Chris, thank you very much for such an easy to follow introduction! To answer your question, I first tried to make an app 2 years ago and failed. After learning OOP and working in Python for a while, I feel comfortable transitioning to Swift now. Your video series is exactly what I needed to get started, sub earned!

Hi Chris, I've been learning JavaScript, PHP for close to 8 months now. Decided to try out a library since I knew JavaScript and downloaded React Native as my first library ever for JavaScript. Followed a tutorial by Brad Traversy for creating a mobile app and after the lesson I feel in love with the idea of mobile development. Right now, I am on your channel to see if iOS is the path I would like to take or if I should continue with React Native for cross platform. I am stuck in the middle because I've learned so much with JavaScript and Swift feels like a completely different thing in comparison to JavaScript. After your 14day trial I will see at the end which direction I would like to take, thank you for the excellent videos.

Hmmm IDK. Seems like it might be hard to follow. I was forced to install xcode 13.2.1 on my VM. And when it installed there was no .piist file or products folder. It also doesn't seem to include these file extensions. So the file names don't have dot anything any more. The only indication that I am looking at a swift file seems to be the icon. Is this setting that can be changed? As a newbie I think a clear and present file extension would probably be more helpful than an icon that I may or may not recognize and be able to identify.

is it worth learning storyboard UI in 2021 or should I jump right into swift UI? I've been reading the swift ui documentation and reading a lot of app examples online, and it really seems like Apple has made a good job with their framework, it kind of reminds me of typescript with some syntax differences.

Just write one yourself, it doesn't matter if you are learning and creating projects for the fun of it. Use something like com.MyName.MyProject. It only matters when your app will go to Apple to be published to the App Store. It's an ID that is used internally and also 2 apps cannot have the same ID. @AdrienVillez
I have been trying to download xcode for a while now but it is just not happening. I have 30 GB left and the application needs 12.6 GB but it still shows the disk space error.
hello Chris I am benefiting from the Chris program and I face only one challenge, downloading unrecommended x code which prevented me from coding and succeeding in building the apps. which x code should I install for my mac book air m1 2020 11.1.2 version? help me out please. which version of XCode fit my mac?
"Hello, since your mac is already the M1 even the later version should be fine.. if its not available on the AppStore then you can try to download it directly via the developer portal developer.apple.com/download/all - Francis"
Hi Chris, Love your videos! I know that Xcode is a sole macOs app. Do you have any recommendation if you dont own an apple device and still be able to build an app?
Xcode is an app made by Apple for macOS (Apple's computers). You won't be able to find Xcode on Windows. Plan A would be to have a virtual machine, rent a mac in the cloud, or look into Android/Flutter. @AdrienVillez
Hello Chris - I wanted to know the step by step guide for learning Xcode 13 for developing macOS apps using Swift at a beginner perspective. Can you recommend an ideal books that will help me to get a grip about Xcode and macOS programming. Hey, really enjoyed the video! Do you think it would be possible to make an app that could scan pictures with your camera? If so any video suggestions or general tips?
"Hello, yes it should be entirely possible but the features might be a bit limited, check documentation for camera features that you can access, if not you can always take a photo and process the image afterwards - Francis"
Great tutorial thank you Chris :) I'll be buying a Mac for the first time in many years soon to begin learning iOS development. Building apps for iPhone has always been a goal of mine. Currently taking Harvard's free online CS50 through EdX before starting iOS learning specifically.
Hello Chris, For whatever reason, the product folder is missing from my navigation pane. I don't think it was ever there to begin with. Do you know how I can fix this issue? I'm running Xcode 13 BETA
"Hello, that seems like a weird behavior since thats like the ""compiled"" version of your app that Xcode automatically creates and manages.. does it cause issue for you? i would suggest creating a new project if it still does the same thing.. I would also refrain from using BETA versions of Xcode since it may be unstable and cause issues - Francis"

Please be realistic and don't just be optimistic for the sake of the video or views. No offense. Thank you for all the work and videos. Waiting for your reply
Of course you can! You are a "somebody" here. Even students who absolutely had no programming background got to learn how to build iOS apps through us. So yes, it's totally possible! Start here: codewithchris.com/start -Arthur
For apps previously created to run in iOS 13 that need updating for iOS 14 due to file management problems, can a beginner learn enough in Xcode to do it? Or would it be too detailed or too much debugging such that it's better to hire a professional developer just for the task?
"Hello, xcode 13 to xcode 14 is not that much different since its still swift 5.. maybe the problem lies that it was made using an even older, or not ""core"" technology.. i suggest posting about it on our community forum maybe someone can help you.. head on over to codecrew.codewithchris.com - Francis"

is it worth learning storyboard UI in 2021 or should I jump right into swift UI? I've been reading the swift ui documentation and reading a lot of app examples online, and it really seems like Apple has made a good job with their framework, it kind of reminds me of typescript with some syntax differences.
You can start learning SwiftUI now, but if you have the time, strive to learn UIKit too. So you can enjoy the best of both worlds. :-) -Arthur
Great!!
Let us know what you are planning to build!

Hi dear thank you for your time ,I have quotations I have live stream url or RTMP how can i add it to the app I like to bulled media app
Sorry, can you clarify your question? -Arthur

What if you don't have an organisation identifier??
Hello, Chris! Best if you post this question on our CodeCrew forum so that our tech support staff can assist you. Go here: codecrew.codewithchris.com. Thank you! -Arthur
Just write one yourself, it doesn't matter if you are learning and creating projects for the fun of it. Use something like com.MyName.MyProject. It only matters when your app will go to Apple to be published to the App Store. It's an ID that is used internally and also 2 apps cannot have the same ID.

@@CodeWithChris thank you for sure this comment is far more better than the previous one ☝️ 😅. I appreciate

I have been trying to download xcode for a while now but it is just not happening. I have 30 GB left and the application needs 12.6 GB but it still shows the disk space error.

hello Chris
I am benefiting from the Chris program and I face only one challenge, downloading unrecommended x code which prevented me from coding and succeeding in building the apps. which x code should I install for my mac book air m1 2020 11.1.2 version? help me out please. which version of XCode fit my mac?
"Hello, since your mac is already the M1 even the later version should be fine.. if its not available on the AppStore then you can try to download it directly via the developer portal developer.apple.com/download/all

Hi Chris, Love your videos! I know that Xcode is a sole macOs app. Do you have any recommendation if you dont own an apple device and still be able to build an app?
Hello, Shekainah! You really need to use a Mac computer in order to build an iOS app. Thanks for learning with us! -Arthur

is it difficult to make an app that uses image recognition technology to propogate data and ties into shopify?

Having trouble downloading X code on windows. Do you have a seperate tutorial for that?
Xcode is an app made by Apple for macOS (Apple's computers). You won't be able to find Xcode on Windows. Plan A would be to have a virtual machine, rent a mac in the cloud, or look into Android/Flutter.

Hello Chris - I wanted to know the step by step guide for learning Xcode 13 for developing macOS apps using Swift at a beginner perspective. Can you recommend an ideal books that will help me to get a grip about Xcode and macOS programming. I do have OOP background with lots of coding experiences, but to be frank I am really baffled the way in the Xcode & its programming language functions.
Regards JM

Hey, really enjoyed the video! Do you think it would be possible to make an app that could scan pictures with your camera? If so any video suggestions or general tips?
"Hello, yes it should be entirely possible but the features might be a bit limited, check documentation for camera features that you can access, if not you can always take a photo and process the image afterwards
- Francis"
Great tutorial thank you Chris :) I'll be buying a Mac for the first time in many years soon to begin learning iOS development. Building apps for iPhone has always been a goal of mine. Currently taking Harvard's free online CS50 through EdX before starting iOS learning specifically.
Yay, way to go for investing in yourself. You'll achieve so much progress in no time. Keep on going! :-) -Arthur
Hello Chris,
For whatever reason, the product folder is missing from my navigation pane.
I would also refrain from using BETA versions of Xcode since it may be unstable and cause issues
- Francis"
"Have you tried to learn to make an app before? If so, how did that go?"
It tasted like cardboard.
Lol! Thanks for dropping by, Jason! :-) -Arthur

Hello Aditya. We do have our own content on www.codewithchris.com where we have more freedom to publish all the courses, videos, quizzes and blogs we want. Also, we have an integrated forum where all of our students come to share their hard work.
(and also because are not interested to give away 50% of the hard work we do to platforms like Udemy)

Hey Chris! I know extremely extremely basic python and nothing else. Zero programming experience. Can I hope to build an app myself using Xcode?
"Hello, xcode 13 to xcode 14 is not that much different since its still swift 5.. maybe the problem lies that it was made using an even older, or not ""core"" technology.. i suggest posting about it on our community forum maybe someone can help you.. head on over to codecrew.codewithchris.com
