Disgaea Games offer so much depth and crazy stats and huge numbers and a variety of ways to play its truly insane how great the series is for those that love SPRG games

I have loved Disgaea since the beginning on the PS2. I rented it so many times from the local video store. Disgaea 3 was the meh moment for me in the early days. Mostly because I didn't gel with the characters. D4 brought it back hard though (SARDIIIIINES!) and 5 is it's ultimate form. It just nailed every single thing. I love what they did with Chara world in this one being a board game. I only played the demo for 6 but that was enough. Hopefully 7 can bring it back. I'm not sold on the polygonal characters though, so far. Time will tell.
Yes im with you i agree aand 6 is not horrible if u look at it as a idle game or auto battler that is all about huge giant numbers and a watered down disgaea game...6 does have like the best story in the series tho for most people that actually tried to play it
yeah i myself started replaying it again and it just offers so much content so many things to do and so much to grind out and keep you busy and work towards

I'm not sure Disgaea is an OG, per se, but it's definitely become a staple of the TRPG landscape. (The 1990s was Fire Emblem, Ogre Battle Saga, and Final Fantasy Tactics; Disgaea 1 is a mid-2000s release, and Disgaea 5 was 2015.) I'm not sure how you'd define the waves. Maybe NES (Fire Emblem) and SNES (Ogre Battle Saga) as part of the first wave, Playstation 1/Nintendo 64/Gameboy Advance as the second wave (Final Fantasy Tactics/FFTactics Advance/Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis), and Playstation 2/PSP as the third wave (La Pucelle Tactics, Disgaea, Jeanne d'Arc, etc.)? Disgaea's character customization is top notch, and it definitely has a strong aesthetic feel. I think the reason I don't rush to buy a Disgaea game is mostly... 1. The plot tends to be weak. It plays more like a goofy anime, and I'd almost write off the plot entirely, except that Disgaea 1 has some touching moments, as does 4. But in a genre that's known for having the very best plot of any genre thanks to Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre, Disgaea doesn't scratch that itch at all. 2. Moving/cancelling/one side taking all of its turns, then the other side going just... isn't fun for me, personally. There's something about the active time system used by other games to determine turn order that's really compelling from a strategy angle. Disgaea almost feels like more of a puzzle game at times. I think that's deliberate and something they lean into with the item world and explosions and problem-solving, but it's not for me. 3. There's some serious cringe in this series, which is probably why you thought it came out in the 1990s. You replay it as an adult and it's like "Oh, wow, okay, well THAT was definitely a slur in the 90s and hasn't changed to not be a slur in the year of our lord 2023, who thought THAT was okay in a children's game?" At the same time, it continues to innovate and tries new things, and the puzzle angle to it has given it a foothold so it doesn't get knocked aside by the bigger names in the genre. You can reliably release a Disgaea game and expect it to get a lot of sales. Also, prinnies are cute, and the idea of exploding penguins has let them print money with prinny plushies. I'm still behind, I just played a few minutes of Disgaea 5 (or whatever one was after the sardine vampire werewolf romance one?). But they're a game I turn to when there's nothing else to play. And the cuteness factor for the monsters cannot be understated. I'm sorry, but you can have an angel with a laser gun riding a cute kitten into battle, and that's something the TRPG genre sorely needed.
I like Disgaea series but am not passionate enough to do grinding there. Disgaea 2 is my favorite coz i like unarmed main protagonists. Thanks for the upload.
Lmao love this game…such a time sink. Each item has a multi layered dungeon. I like the music as well. As far as depth/customization goes…holy smokes, all while making chuckle along the way…
@@gmoney5772 played the demo and didn't like how they made skills class exclusive and no more weapon skills. Hopefully 7 does go the old way or has a better system.
As my first SRPG on the Switch back in 2017, and my 3rd Disgaea game that I played, this is easily in my top 5 SRPG's of all time. I would also put the more recent Tactics Ogre Reborn up there in the top 5 as well.
Disgaea! Yeaaaah man. I played the first one and got completely distracted with the item worlds. I might have put 80 hours into the game and I’m not sure I saw a single ending lol. I have no idea why more games haven’t lifted some ideas from this series. So many brilliant ideas.
oh yeah for sure 100% i guess they think lots of people dont like to grind but to me if a game can offer that much to do and so many complex systems to dive into its worth it
Disgaea series is the most grindy game I ever played so far... why? First, grind to level to 9999, then you can reincarnate and then level up again to max everything. Also, you will need to level the weapons, accessories and armors to max... that is another grinding. Now just awaiting for Disgaea 7.
lucky disgaea 6 makes this easy with auto battle its much like an idle game. But yes if u love the grind disgaea is for you but if u hate grind stay away. You can lessen the grind if u dont make the enemy super strong tho cuz than u just out level it all an can beat the game way easier but i like to grind :)

@@faizedfoxgaming7426 The auto battle takes that essence of grinding from the series. Auto battle was introduce in Disgaea 4 and before that there wasn't any as such.
Disgaea 5 indeed is the peak of the series so far in gameplay. But disgaea 2 will forever be the one with the best story and the best 2d Pixel animations. Also about to toot my horn for a bit. I have a video on my channel that shows how to easily get the 10 billion damage dealt trophy.
I feel that the first game have better story. I do like 2nd as well. The only one I didn't like that much is Disgaea 6. Hopefully Disgaea 7 coming later this year would be great.
@@comicdragon1 disgaea 3 story is absolute garbage tier imo. 4 has an OK story with great qol, 5 story felt longer than usual and was pretty good. No idea how 6 was.

I think what makes me like those games more (and yes I am including some of the newer FE games, not all of them tho) is that they feel way more strategic beyond just grind in a few maps a lot and AOE spam. Yeah, there is some grinding in those games but usually it doesn't last longer than, at most, 30 minutes and it's mostly for things like being able to equip better weapons and/or skills as well as things like demon fusion and class promotion which not only helps bypass some grind but also more preferable than grinding for Lv ups a lot. A lot of Disgaea's grind and mechanics boils down to just being for more big damage numbers. I also just like the characters in those games a lot more but that's just me.
I would agree fire emblem is way more strategic plus death does matter in those games unlike disgaea. If you havent you should give tactics ogre reborn a try its a great game thats much like final fantasy tactics

yeah disgea debuted in japan in 2003 but still played a huge role on shaping the genre of SRPG maybe not a grand dad but a dad we will say lol

2 Was great for its time there is no lie about that and was very different in a time when FFT was taking over

fire emblem is great but i cant get as into the newer games and devil survivor it would nice to get a new good one
