- Talgarth Asylum, this impressive Edwardian institute is one of the very last of its kind that remain in the UK today.
A final window into a bygone era, untouched since its closure in 1997.
Founded in 1900, a late edition to the countries asylums, it consisted of six wards housing 352 patients, connected by a ring corridor. Each ward was designed to cater for different classes of patient depending on severity and likelyhood of succesful treatment.
An additional isolation hospital was built for infectious diseases such as TB.
After its closure in 1997, the slate was removed from most of the roofs, sealing its fate, creating the beautifully decayed skeleton we see here today.

Hi Sam and Jess , my whole family generation worked up there until it closed. It was a community of its own. There were alot of buildings up there, when you walked up drive to front there was tennis courts to your left and a field where cricket, carnivals were played. To the right was occupation therapy where patients went to earn money by doing wood work , tapestries, arts /crafts.
Where you went to garage was the boiler room, electricians ,plumbers and other deliveries. The front of the hospital was all the offices eg pay room, telephone . Up next to the front there was a laundry ,sewing room where patients worked, opposite was the morgue which you went in. At the top of the drive was 2 admittion
wards. They also had gardens to grow their own veg.
When the hospital closed a doctor from isle of white bought it for pittence, back hander and left it root .
The little rooms you entered were side rooms .
All through the year things were going on in hall eg films, patients parties, Christmas parties for the staffs children and new year eve staff had their party which they wore gowns and suits. They had a bar whiched open every Friday night for bingo, a sweet shop and a community centre. We still live in Talgarth but by shutting the hospital has killed Talgarth.
Heiss was held up there for a while until he was moved to pen-a-fal hospital in Abergavenny.
You can imagine how busy that place was at one time to be just deteriorating now, makes you sad in a lot of homes
This place has so decayed since Adam Mark explored it.Someone has almost deliberately destroyed the main structure.Mabe someone is clearing the site.Imagine being a patient there .Where have they all gone. Most peculiar.!Thankyou Sam and Jess for showing me.
I went exploring here about 15 years ago, and got locked in an isolation room. The door slammed behind me when I was nowhere near it. Boyfriend was the other side and luckily managed to kick the door through to get me out. I have photos. It was terrifying!
What a crazy explore 😜 wow!! I love how nature reclaims a once busy asylum. I'm glad you both made it out of there safely. Love the mushrooms growing on the rotting wood. Thank you for taking us along❤
Thanks for that great video of Talgarth Asylum!
In 2000 a lot of mental health hospital closed & patients where returned to the community with support living. Under the " closer to home project "
Adammarkexplores did this guys... can't believe how bad it got in such a short time he actually stayed over in a tent in the half roof room with the stage crazy be careful 💕✨
G'day Sam and Jess.. What an amazing explore. It sure would have been a stunner in its hay-day.. The old asylums here were usually self sufficient with own veggies & meat. It would be very eerie at night for sure. Thanks for showing us.. 🦘🎄🦘
Excellant explore ... Targarth was our first big explore so it is a special place to us, but since late 2021 its gone downhill so much, loved to have got there not long after it closed, we tried Whitchurch as its the one the best condition but failed get in, we enjoyed your video on that one.
"... Targarth ... is a special place .... since late 2021 its gone downhill so much, ...l"
Was living in Llangorse Village and travelled to/through Talgarth often. Sorry to learn that Talgarth is no more like it used to be.
Ooooohhhh, bloody loved this one!!! There’s always been something about abandoned asylums that just fascinate me more than any other abandoned places. Probably due to the unknown history and who was there and what happened to them. Love your work😊😊😊
Moral of the story, don't mess with the drone. Like your new pants Jess. Take care, see you next week.
Hi Sam and Jess. What a fantastic explore 😊 I was on edge, though with you guys walking through a death trap , so incredibly decayed 😮 Thanx guys. I loved it xx
Bravo on the final performance a real blockbuster Mon! Oh yeah cheers 🐟🍷💜
We went looking for a waterfall and had to go through here to get there. We stopped and explored too. Amazing place
It’s such a shame that one after another, these magnificent buildings are rotting away
While working at Powys County Council Brecon Area Office in mid 1970s, I came across the place on the map, marked as LUNATIC ASYLUM..

Incredible footage! Well done guys! ❤️ 🇺🇸
An amazing explore thanks guys
Wow how cool! Thank you for sharing
SO, SO LOVE YOUR VIDEO'S 🙌🌹💕 THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO FOR US 🤗💗
The ubiquitous buddleia seems to love abandoned gardens! Very dangerous place to visit. Take care.
Well, they tend to be a common sight to urban explorers visiting old stone buildings ruins or abandoned train stations. It's a mountain plant which enjoys rocky grounds with poor soil.
With the roofs mostly gone, there's not much "inside" inside.
Noticed some unusual stonework/brickwork of exposed walls. very interesting explore thank you 💖💖
Nice to know the War Veteran is not forgotten in such a awful looking place. May he RIP 🥀 and thanks for your service 🥀 Lest We Forget 🥀
Great explore but very sad to me, I went in when it was intact. Take care both! 🙏
Thank you Sam and Jess for exploring this old asylum. Every entry was fortified, surprised you got in. Any room with bars on the windows would be for mental patients. I believe the large machine Sam pointed out is a printer for large drawings for blueprints, used to see those in an architectural facility. The piece of paper in the room with the stage was a list for fuses for the lights, interesting. The interiors must have been grand when it was in use, too bad so much degradation and collapse. Thanks you lot for the journey, cheers from California.
There's some unmarked graves just beside the morgue as well in the over growth and one marked grave of a R.A.F pilot on the other side of the site.
This place is next on my list, only 1 hour down the road from me. Looks like a great place 👌
Please be careful. Love you both 💜🌲🙏
Mannn! Those Buddleias are aggressive AF.! The way they've taken over is in competition with the level of decay! What a cool explore 🤘 cheers Jess & Sam
Very cool place. Loved the iron window frames with the roses. Thanks.
They need to open more of them because we got too many crazy people running around
Yes great video guys❤❤
Interesting to see this stage of decay, nature taking over.
For what it's worth black cats are considred to be lucky in Welsh folklore, maybe it was a sign you'd explore safely.
Ahhh you two are the best always such great content …. Sorry that I find it so funny when you spook each other out 😂Loved this one guys ❤
No, Sam, please don't 7:40 🤢....well, you can't say these aren't two very dedicated explorers!
Hey guys 💜
Wow what terrible condition . would of been a beauty in it's day pucker explore Sam jess xxx❤🙏🙏🙏
Incredible explore Sam and Jess 🤘🏼❤️
Jess run away from those cars !!! 🤣😂❤
Love how this asylum just sit and creepy at same time great video sam and jess and merry Christmas 🎅🎄.
❤❤❤
The ending was funny, thanks for the good belly laugh.
10:56 think it’s a printer for large sheets paper.
11:14 is a swarf conveyor for a lathe in a machine shop
You two taken a right risk as that's why they did make it hard to getting in but some of the outside walls looked ok they took the roof off for the reason to make it that bad as bet it's a listed and easier to get planing to knock it down and build new houses as it is a really big site there was a really big diesel engine generator at the start the the big pipes was interested to watch
A lot of people where put into a mental health hospital due to the disabilities, as there parents could not cope with the disabilities some had been in for most of their lives 30-40 years
Please be careful that part climbing in was scary
What a lovely video guys ❤
Such an old school asylum! Definitely don’t make them like that anymore! I really enjoyed seeing this because despite all the decay and wreckage it’s still so beautiful and rather majestic! Thank you Sam and Jess for another excellent explore! Xx
The noise that Sam heard at 19:44 was just himself passing gas
That window plastered in poo was a no no for me! 🤮went in the way you came out.Met the mouthy local in the blue van too!
Nature eventually takes everything back!
I loved this explore. What a grand old asylum. I bet it was nice back in the day. ❤❤
Sam that machine in the corridor which said cut and feed on it. Was a A0 size plotter for printing drawings. Used manybof them
That machine was an old large printer machine. a friend of mine whos a photographer looked into buying one once.
Oohh I was the 1000th like how cool... Awsome as always
This Leo from Hudson New York
Sam y Jess que abandonó un poco espeluznante y y peligroso . Todo se está derrumbando y así aún se aprecia el edificio. Saludos
Big ass boilers from The Shining!
the red brick structures are old world and are the power plants/stations. All old world structures were repurposed into asylums, hospitals, golf courses and the like. The Tartarians were put there, as they knew the truth of the destruction.
camera shaky why not stabilised ?
Will you guys ever come to America too explore
🕸🙇♀️”..wOw..” _Thank you Sam and Jess, and hopefully Saman’s hand will better soon ..
badass
Why not recycle the stair railing?
❤
why has this place not been demolished? and new housing built?
Real dangerous stairways and yet you did it. Please be cautious! ( I know you are, I just had to say it.)
Be careful around asbestos 🙏 😮 loony a ticks
I didn’t see the pop and ended up sitting in it and getting it all over me so I stunk 😂😂😂 but I didn’t care I still loved it so much
