bro imagine being inspired by twoset, learning the violin, going to take your entrance exam and it's just them sitting there blankly 💀
especially the viola💀💀💀💀
edit: omg she won nvm
Ooof
Student:
**sees it’s TwoSet**
**bombs performance**
**leaves**
**goes to soundproof room**
**screams in agony**
💀💀 how do you keep a straight face when you see them lol I’d just stare and go wtf?
And then they give the 1st place to a viola 😂
Imagine being the contestant and thinking the adjudicator is looking at the music because you made a mistake but when in reality the adjudicator just didn't want to clap at the wrong time 😭😭😭
Man that would have never crossed my mind as the competitor😂 I would be hella stressed
Yeah, or touching his forehead because he thinks you're so good as a violist, as opposed to doing it because you did something wrong 😂.
That's what i literally thought when my piano teacher was sleeping or on the phone while i was playing.
AYYOOO DON'T TELL ME BRETT GAVE ME A DOUBLE SIDE EYE 😭, thankfully I didn't know until now. Thanks for coming to adjudicate!!
What instrument did you play?
@@duckph violin
Coming from a violinist - you played amazingly! From the small snippet I heard, you had great tone quality and musicality/phrasing, so well-done 👏🏼 How did you feel knowing that Twoset was coming to adjudicate you all?
@@josephotoshi I felt excited of course! It's not a normal thing for one of the most famous classical music celebrities to come adjudicate a competition you're playing in.
@@ingramfan4470 where in the vid if thats ok with you
The fact that they handed no.1 to a violist. Just makes me proud as a violist.
regardless of what instrument she played, her playing was simply the best that day
She is a great violist ✨Amazing✨ Makes me a proud violist as well no matter what they are all great musicians playing really challenging pieces

Bro violias are freaking cool sounding! I hope you love your instrument!
Violas going up. Violins going up. Love your instrument boys and girls
Let's do this next time. I'll bring the snacks.
Next time at your Alma Mater! 😅
You mean you being the adjudicator and judge Brett and Eddy's Bach? 😂 Well tbh I kinda look forward to seeing that happen lol
You three should infiltrate the Queen Elisabeth Competition judge panel next year 😄
I would loveeeee to see that😂
I can't wait to see it!
Ella had a double win:
1 the competition
2 forcing Eddy and Brett to acknowledge the power of the viola
She is the moment. She is an icon.
Yes! Go Viola gang!!
INTERESTING moments in the video:
1. Brett actually won the competition before but writing less than Eddy
2. Brett double side eye
3. Eddy giving viola win first place
4. Brett clapping in between movement (SACRILEGIOUS)
5. Brett and Eddy having trip down memory lane (vice versa)
*iNtErEsTiNg
Number two is basically “BOMBASTIC side-eye, CRIMINAL OFFENSIVE side eye”
For #4, it was actually common to clap in between movements during the Baroque era. However in the modern (non-HIP) school of classical music performance, this custom seems to have been lost.
Oh no I walked right into spoilers
@@burgundy.v lol
Brett and Eddy are a real epitome maximum level of tsundere to Viola, their mouths always say joke and mean things to viola yet their ears can't lie to it.
Never thought of that... "tsundere" really does perfectly describe them...
Brett & Eddy: mock viola.
Ella: & I took it personally.
One day a viola is going to send them sobbing uncontrollably. A viola is going to BREAK those boys... :-D
Imagine the competitors later watching this video and hearing about Eddy and Brett's chaotic inner dialogue
At least one of them commented...
I'd be so relieved. I've joined a lot of competitions and knowing the perspective and thoughts of the judges kinda eases the rigid image of the judges
If u can judge slowly, you can judge quickly.

Very trusty adjudicators 😂
I've been a teacher for over 20+ years and scoring and grading are super stressful. The balance of constructive feedback and appreciation is a challenge. It's obvious these two know what they are talking about and that helps. What an awesome experience.
woah is ur profile pic Minho?
@@yuyu246 Yes it is
Minho from stray kids?
@@A_person143 Oh no. The one and only Choi Minho of SHINee.
Oh ok
Imagine you just finished your performance and the 2 people that are scoring you are like: "what do I write" "idk man"
I don’t want to hear another word from anyone on how they don’t respect violists. It’s clearly just a bit they’ve committed to.
I'm sympathetic to those who take it personally but at the end of the day it's just banter. There's no animosity there.
easy enough to come to such a conclusion if you watch some of their videos casually
Besides, the violists had a revolution recently on the lingling40hrs subreddit, and a treaty was signed that basically stated all instruments are equal.
I get that it's a bit, but sometimes it feels like it crosses over to being mean. I remember one viola teacher who had a student who loved the viola... until she started watching TwoSet, and felt really bad about herself. That's the reality. "Just a joke, bro!" is all fine and well, but I get a bit uncomfortable thinking about the young musicians who have to develop a tough skin for the abuse. Why should they have to? I would be happy if they just let it go and stopped the bullying. Bullying is still bullying, even if it's "just a joke".
@@cuthbertallgood7781 but still, at the end of the day, it all comes down to what you think is a joke, and what you think is bullying. Because as cliche as it sounds, it's the truth that humour is subjective, and no matter how light and harmless you make a joke, you always risk upsetting someone. From what I've watched of TwoSet, I get their humour is one that pokes fun of others, whether it be rap, kpop, film music, viola, etc. Whether you take it as a joke or as a form of bullying is entirely up to you.
In the snippet we got to hear, the violist’s playing immediately drew me into her musical world. I’m so glad that despite the years of viola jokes, you acknowledged her excellent performance. Good job, B & E!
Growth!
But why is it good job!
For acknowledging a persons skill
Like it’s not some astronomical achievement that they heard a violist play the best and have her the award
As a violist things like this annoy me so much because acknowledging my skill isn’t an accomplishment on someone else’s part
@wannaknowmysecretidentity4485 why is your comment structured like that? But anyways, the original commenter said good job to brett and eddy because they didn't discriminate against violists, considering they always joke about violas. Idk why u took that personally
You’re right
Sorry after watching this video I was so angry and just annoyed that I was very unreasonable when replying, god I’m cringing just reading back what I wrote 🥲
Imagine coming to the uni as a twoset fan and then seeing these two staring at you blankly while you peform-
and even worse... seeing Brett's double side-eye
@@shriyansgadnis Even worse, knowing all their comments about violists!

Love that the Cardinal Sin is included here, add those cello suites into your 40 hour practice
You my man are doing the god's work!❤
The cardinal sin is indeed sacrilegious😂 but we still love them
Twoset: "Competion sucks"
Also Twoset: "Competions are great. They inspire us"
🤣😂🤣
Both are true!
Love the way they shared their process (the right amount!) with the competitors and audience.
Well done, Twoset!!
Coming from a cellist, Violists are underrated! The instrument is a great balance between Cello and Violin, and when given the opportunity, Violists can perform amazing solos.
The viola has a beautiful tone. If I had to listen to an unaccompanied string instrument it would be a close call between the viola and the cello. IMO the violin requires, at the bare minimum, a quartet to support it and really let it shine. I would compare the viola to a candle and the cello to a campfire, while the violin is a firework.
For me (not a cellist, just learned for a few years) viola seems like the perfect middle ground. Not a cello, but still not as high as a violin, and so much easier to carry than a cello (not to mention double bass) 😀
@@MateHegyhati exactly why I switched from violin to viola. The register and tone is much more pleasant on the ears than violin imo and i dont have to carry a massive instrument everywhere
Thank you for getting it off my chest, especially when you talked about the balance between the bass and melody. I don't like listening to very high notes that reach beyond some skyscrapers (cough cough Paganini) (I'm a self-taught teenage guitarist, so the viola kind of reminds me of a guitar. It's high enough to make a good expression of melody and low enough to fill the atmosphere )
One small step for string players, one giant leap for viola players.
I just find it hilarious that half-way through, Eddy is giving weirdly sexy faces of approval and Brett's just - in some sort of drugged heaven LMAO
Okay, but when Brett said "what do i write?" And then Eddy said "Don't know man" is literally me and my bsf when our teacher give us a question 💀
Love to watch them discuss the contestants' playing. Just shows their professionality and the knowledge of the violin, other string instruments and the Bach pieces. It's basically them nerding out in a very professional setting.
They nerding out is always good content. I wish they would do it more often, unfortunately those videos don't get that many viewers.
AMEN!
The viola player had fantastic phrasing. That prelude has a recurring beat going through it, giving it a "tragic pendulum clock chime" kind of feeling, which she really brought out. And, she had a big, clear sound. She really stood out.
I’m a violist and I’ve played this piece too, and just like you said I was blown away by her skill because I know just how hard it is!
She really was incredible ❤️
As someone who has adjudicated, I know how hard that is. Props to you to taking it on. Announcing your piece is a great thing. It takes the nervous edge off before you play.
their hair by the time they finished judging: 👩🏼🎤🆙🆙↖️⬆️↗️
If you can adjudicate it harshly, you can adjudicate it kindly.
Brett and Eddy achieved so much in the past ten years, reached lots of milestones, set lots of records, but they are still themselves and haven't change much: camera out of focus, don't know what to do/write frantically as if ddl for their thesis is approaching lol, zoned out from time to time, a bit mischievous (still got a student vibe lol), and most importantly, discuss music professionally and with passion. LOVE THEM!! And so proud of you guys!! Congratz on reaching another milestone, to be an adjudicator at your music uni (is there a better proof than this to show that they ARE professional musicians and are good at it??)!! And good luck on your world tour guys!!
And the camera still completely dies sometimes 🤣
You meant zoned out?
@@ebc6970 omg yes lol didn't notice that typo, thanks!
is it just me or because they are usually smiling, when they look serious they look kinda scary and cool at the same time
srs bznz faces.
Eddy looks serious and Brett looks scary
@@M_SChaha really? It’s the opposite for me, I find eddy’s serious face pretty intimidating but Brett just looks blank to me.
@@Satopi3104I see Eddy as a judgemental and Brett as the scary one 😂
It’s nice to know that the abiudicators are staying crap like ‘I don’t know what to write’ ‘yeah, bruh- me neither’
Instead of ‘what an absolute disgrace to the violinist species
Adjudicator: ad (Latin: to, towards, addition) judic, means judge or justice, -ate, verb (action) ending, -or, person who. Adjudicator: the person who applies judgement to a situation

Thank you Queensland con for inviting them as judges so we can watch this absolutely wonderful episode!
Yes, it's wonderful they were allowed to film some of the behind-the-scenes stuff
Teacher Michelle must be so proud for having Twoset as students once!
My favourite moments:
1. Brett's *double* bombastic side eye moment 👀
2. Eddy's subtle expression change 🤭
3. Brett's sacriligeous clapping in between movements 🫣
4. Them reacting to their experience as adjudicators 😅
5. That this video inspired me to practice more 🫠💖🌻🎻
Thank you, TwoSet! Hope to see you on your World Tour! Can't wait! ❤
Thats crazy how you get invited back to your old university and get to see whos there now and how it is
Eddy's summary of the competition and preamble before Brett announced the winner at 13:18 was so professional!
It's the start of the TwoSet Viola redemption arc!
It was so clearly the violist, even from the snippets. She has "the sound" and that's way harder to do on a viola than a violin or cello.
One interesting part of this is that the contestants can now also see the opinion about their playing on CZcams. A nice way for them to get more good criticism
I play electric guitar, have probably listened to like 10 classical pieces, rarely seen any orchestras perform, yet I still watch these guys cuz they are just fun to watch
@@tree8908 yes I will change that you have my respect

They have this WIDE appeal that spans the globe - all ages, all genres of people, musicians and non-musicians alike. They've changed my world too... I'm now learning the violin...
Psst, do go to some live music. Vivaldi's Four Seasons, for eg, is ever popular but never tires. I got to hear a string quartet play this in London while we lunched outside in the sun. Awesome experience...
Viola gang represent! Congratulations Ella!
wow I competed against the winner a few years back at a separate music competition! She also won that competition unsurprisingly, what a great soloist.
That pen flip at 10:24 from Eddy was smooth as hell
Random people: Twoset look down upon viola and hurt viola players
Twoset: Gave violist first prize in the competition
Random people: Twoset don't know how to play the violin
Twoset: get invited by their old music uni as music adjudicators
It is not that hard to acknowledge their achievements and their professionality in classical music, you know.
I always joke that there's several levels of violinists. There's students, professional orchestra players, professional soloists, TwoSet, and then superstar prodigies like Hilary Hahn, Chloe Chua, and Ray Chen - in that order. I think even Brett and Eddy sometimes forget JUST how good they really are.
"I swear I'm not falling asleep." Just musician things
I like Eddie’s “stressed” hair. 😂 Great job, everyone! Congratulations, Ella!
Congratulations, Ella!!! 👏🥳

6:16 Eddy impersonating the double side eye
7:13 blank expression
8:59 Brett clapping in between movements (it wasn't) sAcRiLeGiOUsLy
11:55 Eddy being impressed by the violist
12:58 everything going wrong
14:29 The no.1 winner is.... the violist!
This is a reality show that I would watch!
As a violist I’m so proud. She sounded phenomenal and I’m glad they picked a violist despite them constantly roasting us 😂😂
I was a baroque viola player in school. I think baroque sounds so good on viola if you play it right.
What I enjoy some much about Eddy and Brett is that they don’t pretend to know everything. Instead, they very openly admit that more often than not, you will be thrown into new positions of responsibility without it being your expertise. Learning by doing is key!
I've literally been WAITING for them to post this video ever since i saw their insta story for being adjudicators!
TwoSet being tsundere to violists! 😂
Kudos to y’all for looking past the prejudice and awarding the win to her!
Imagine leaving the stage after you performed and seeing Eddys expression and head shaking at 4:05 :D
Looks like he says to Brett „damn, that was garbage“
"If you don't win, don't worry... if you do win, yeahhhhhh! But don't worry. It's just your own personal journey". -Brett Yang
I’m just desperately thinking, “please let it be the violist!” Finally some justice for that lovely instrument.
And wasn't it a pleasure to see a talented performer who had chosen that instrument?
Wow, they actually achieved so much over the years and joke that they suck. They really don't and they inspire so many people including myself. When I started watching, I didn't even know their channel was about classical music, since the first video I watched was a meme charade video. I think everyone there was shocked pleasantly when they saw Twoset as the adjudicators (my opinion). Also when they awarded the winner, they were so kind and shared their experiences!
Brett, an adjudicator, 2023: I’m not judging, by the way.
Show this video to the people who think TwoSet is being outright mean and condescending towards violists. They can’t deny talent when they see one. The violist has amazing sound for sure!
They both have felt nervous from being on the stage as contestants and off the stage in the audience as the adjudicators in that same room, legends. Great video!
i love how we can see eddy's slow realization that they're gonna have to award the violist lmao
Brett and Eddy, u were great. Insightful, professionall and kind feedback.

Nice work Brett and Eddy, and also everyone who participated in the competition 🎉
Eddy is a good speaker and he gave a good speech at the end. It was fun, but really gave some insight too. They are good adjudicators.
Brett and Eddy just got me to take a break from 3 hours of endless no stopping study THANK YOU SO MUCH
In all the piano competitions I've done I feel like the feedback is definitely my favorite part. Sometimes they feel totally different about my strengths than I thought and it was always fascinating imo to hear a completely new interpretation of my playing (not me or my teacher for once). One time a judge told me they loved my musicality in a piece when in my head I felt I didn't succeed in expressing it much. Getting out of your own head is so cool!
look how far they've come :D
IKR, I've been watching them for years and it is wonderful to see their progress and their success.
I know. They made a viola win 🤣🤣🤣
@@reddragon8 oi spoilers XD

This was awesome! I am sure you were stressed, but what an honor for you, to be asked to come back to your university, and adjudicate. It definitely gives you a legitimacy that you may or may not need in your lives, but definitely appreciates you, and all of your hard work. Congratulations!
Eddy’s speech at the end was full of awesome gems- noting the competition stage is one of the hardest to perform on really makes each of these contestants efforts even more impressive.
They keep achieving better things every time and making their videos every time as well
That was great insight into how the pressures that competitions create actually lead to better playing. I tend to bow out of the recitals and competitions as my stage fright is over whelming. Now, maybe I change my mindset, into the positive: that the pressure will not kill me but make me stronger. Thank you. !!
im feeling so proud of all that you have achieved i cant even begin to imagine what yall must be feeling, may your success keep growing
Even in my small local piano recital contest, with dozens of other competitors, I was amazed to get the Adjudicator's notes of "Tough day for you , I would have liked to have heard you at your best on this". How an adjudicator can remember a singular player and style baffles me. Even with only 7 players, you showed how difficult the task of adjudicating can be for music. Kudos for being insightful, deliberating, and professional in your field. With love from Canuckia! aka Canada :)
This is awesome - i'm so happy that at the university level they invited you - we need more musicians that can engage the youth and bring in the new blood. I think you guys are in the forefront - we have to break these barriers down to being more in!
The moment I watched this video fully, 5 months after release, I found out just how important being a violist is. This is because one of the hardest things in my life is being a viola player and being a fan of twoset
Me being a pianist, but still watching TwoSetViolin feels like I am undercover
Bro, I just woke up from my dream and I was devastated. I was.. about to get Eddy’s autograph… I was gonna talk to him about how twoset inspired me to take on the violin… THEN I WOKE UP.. AGH. 💔💔💔
Could tell the Violist would win. From that very small snippet. So could hear the confident playing. A little better rich sound.
The viola is the alto of the string world.
Very fun to watch!
Have judged quite a few competitions now, especially kids competitions when there is 300+ pieces and such… those are hard, definitely have clapped once between movements and then hid haha. Now working at the university i studied at and it is definitely still the most terrifying stage!
Introducing yourself and your piece during a competition is absolutely a good idea. 👍🏽
You gave such a wonderful message to all the contestants at the end. I wish I heard that kind of message when I was growing up and doing competitions. Thank you on behalf of them and the pianist in me when I was growing up. This is the first competition that I watched where I think everyone truly enjoyed the experience.
The contestants are lucky to have you two as judges. Some competitions have judges that are ridiculously bias. 😅
Idk if you will see this..l but I always try to be some of the first to comment on every video in hopes that you will one day see my comments. I just want to tell you guys how much I appreciate you all! I am a violinist and I am going through a lot right now, and I can always be cheered up by your videos. I feel like you guys have changed the face of classical music and brought joy to so many’s lives. You are life changers for so many, and no words can describe how much I appreciate you all.
