I'm so glad I was finally able to show off Mohawk for so many new people! I unironically love this game, and have immense respect for the mastermind behind it all, D. Scott Williamson. This was an incredibly fun run to perform, and I couldn't ask for a better result. Shoutouts to the crowd for being such a blast to play off of, and to everybody who watched this run or supported AGDQ in any way. ^_^
TheSuperSNES well done PJ! I love games that are so bad, they are amazing. Again, good job, and congrats on contributing to an amazing cause!

I actually unironically liked this game as a kid, I got to the orbatron boss, unfortunately it was always a rental so I never got farther. This and metal warriors were 2 games I would rent after I already had a Playstation, even when I had PS games available. I was glad it got shown at AGDQ although I feel it was too good for awful block.
For me, this was the highlight of Awful games Block.
Thou that may have been because of you, your Couch and the crowd. You all made this entertaining to see.

Like pj said, this game is a technical marvel for the SNES. The fact it can run with 1 or 2 minor glitches, with PJ, the master of breaking games, saying it's solidly constructed is praise all in itself.
The camera makes this "awful", but the game itself is amazing. Definitely worth a play.

Honestly, Mohawk skirts the line between what I'd call "Memorably bad" and "Memorably good". It's got some good ideas, it's got some obvious love put into it, and it pulls off some interesting stuff with what it's got... It just needs some polish (such as having it be made a bit more clear where the player can and can't go and making what the player needs to do more apparent) plus some slightly beefier hardware to really work. Hell, I bet if it were a Super FX game it'd run a lot more smoothly.
Does it need polish? I mean every game can be polished further depending on creator's standards but for this I don't see any area that truly could be improved. It's not a game for everyone, that's for sure. But there aren't that many games that manage to show what they intend as well as Mohawk.
I know I'd never play it. However, I'm genuinely curious what the creative process and especially the programming phase was like.
PAL Mohawk is completely lagless, for what it's worth.
I remember briefly playing this once at a friends house one early Saturday morning and would think about it every few years because I could never remember what it was called. A childhood mystery has been solved this day.
So, We need a Tasbot 100% run of this now.. just so we can say it can be done.
In all seriousness.. The Runner, and the commentary from EVERYONE made this the most entertaining of the Awful block and one of my top faves of the entire event.

I genuinely don't think PJ is even capable of bluffing, he goes all in on every run of his I've seen and always has the biggest grin for the whole time. He's always serious and having a great time and I love it
this run was wild! PJ has delivered on a spectacular run, and that crowd had far too much energy for four in the morning. This goes up as one of my favorite runs of the marathon, for good reason.

This game was really ahead of its time. Really makes you wonder what else the SNES is capable of.
This game hypnotized me 13 minutes in and I fell asleep for 2 hours
No matter how bad this game is in terms of gameplay, it is a technical marvel that they could fit maps that big, That complex, with all of the gravity shenanigans, on the SNES
This is my third-maybe fourth-time rewatching this run since AGDQ2019, and I still find this run a delight to watch. I'm thankfully not particularly vulnerable to motion sickness (at least not from moving graphics), so luckily I've not had too much trouble watching this run that many times. What a technical marvel this is. Those maps are huge and the gravity mechanic is really ahead of its time!
Real talk: this run was fantastic. Incredibly funny and entertaining, and a game I've never heard of before!
I hate it when people refer to stuff as a 'fever dream', but this... this is 100% it.

I had the good fortune to find a copy of this at Too Many Games last month. I can't get past FunBot, even following this run as a guide. They're not kidding, PJ makes the game look way easier than it is.

It's weird, I actually do have motion sickness issues, and some first person games like Mirror's Edge I really can't even watch footage of, but Mohawk and Headphone Jack didn't affect me, besides the obvious "wtf?" we all feel seeing this game

This game actually has some awesome features! I like the gravity, for example.
One of the most impressive 2d platformer engines I can think of. It's incredible to watch.

This looks like it was made to be a Sonic the Hedgehog game for SNES but heavily reskinned for obvious reasons. Mohawk, long feet, running style, gameplay, bossfights, music, the discs are even rings! Absolutely incredible homage either way.

Pretty sure the fauxhawk wasn't really a thing when this game came out. Pretty sure that was a late 90s thing at the earliest.
I'd only ever seen screenshots of this game before, so I was totally unprepared for what the actual gameplay would look like. I'm not sure I'd have much luck finding my way around, but I can certainly appreciate on some level what a technical feat it is.
