To your confusion at 14:30 - That cop turned away because even though all parties involved were shook about the situation, its still 4 v 1 and they had their weapons more readily available. If he moved in any way that remotely appeared aggressive, he would have had 30 to 40 rounds in him within a second. That was a straight business decision on the cops part.

Another angle about it particular to this place time ... all the criminals, the cops, and the victims, all live in the same neghborhood. The tiny fishbowl of Charlestown. And it runs in families, fathers to sons. The cops are children of cops, the criminals children of criminals, the victims children of victims. Every generation paying it forward.

I couldn't agree more. The cop had balls. Not just for blatantly "ignoring" them... but just think about turning your back on 4 guys in nun suits with automatic weapons, knowing you're the enemy.

@@francisalbert1799 I don't look at personal opinions when it comes to being underrated. I look at awards and such. out of 46 nominations..they won 9 awards..awards like Best International Film..Camera Operator of the year..Chairman's award..etc etc..too me, it was another GREAT FILM (not a movie) that was shunned and stepped on by Hollywood. This film deserved soo much more praise than what it recieved. Also, the difference between a movie and film is simple. Pineapple Express= Movie / The Green Mile= Film. This is a underrated film, in my opinion.

  • @luciusmaximussd

I'm from Charlestown - there used to be a fully active US Navy Yard and a state prison directly located in the boundaries of this small part of Boston, it's about 1 square mile. And many, many, many bars. The families of the prisoners would also move close to visit their loved ones. The prison closed in 1955ish and the Navy Yard closed in the 1970s. The blue collar jobs went away, but the hardened criminal element remained.
In the early 90s, gentrification began to take ahold of this small part of Boston. And this is basically when the movie, The Town, takes place. The remaining criminal element and locals are called Townies. The "Toonies" are actually called "Yuppies." Between the early 1990s - present, Townies/locals have been slowly displaced and unable to afford to buy or rent in the neighborhood where they grew up.

This is not a true story, but Ben talked to robbers in jail and asked about memorable moments. The cop who looked away bc he didn’t want to die was one. It was such an out there and kind of funny moment that Ben put it in the movie.

The cop looked and saw 4 guys masked as nuns fresh of a bank robbery all with fully loaded AR's in hand while he was holding a coffee completely un expecting that interaction.
He did the smart move and literally looked the other way lol

Hadn't seen the movie yet but never knew the scene of robbers dressed as nuns came from this movie! Shiii, I woulda done the same thing as the one cop, he prob heard that a bunch of other cops were being capped by this "nuns" and then seeing all four of them starring at you XD I'm trynna go home if I got zero chance of surviving that gun battle.

Great reaction as always Devin!! The only thing that pisses me off about this movie is all the chase scenes, after they robbed Fenway Park, were filmed around my job and sadly I was off that day but clearly cannot take it away from this phenomenal film. Welcome back to Boston and if you want to stay a little longer check out Mystic River, The Fighter (west of Boston) and Black Mass based on real life events Keep it real man!!
