    I am a working bike mechanic and have dealt with dozens of internal cabled bikes. Some companies have made this an impossible job (Kestrel, Klein,) but Giant got this really right--minimized both cable drag and mechanical complication. Just worked on one for a regular customer--sweet bike!

      I do not agree. In my Giant Revolt the it's impossible to fit the plastic cable guide into the frame after cable replacement. I am really disappointed.

    Shortened my brake cables today. Didn't bother with the gear cables as I thought I might need a internal cable routing kit. However after watching this I will get it sorted tomorrow.
    Hate how much outer bike shops put on these bikes. They look so tidy when they are done short but with nice smooth bends in the cables. I am tempted to heat shrink both of the gear cables together to make it really tidy.
    Thanks for making that video. If not I would have probably put it off till I snapped a cable 🤣.

    You do not need to take off the black plastic cable holder on the front. Just free the cable from the rear derailleur. IMPORTANT: On the bottom access (under the pedals), be very careful not to over bent and damage the transparent cover. I also use a small transparent hose (which I insert with the old cable from behind to the bottom bracket), to easily guide the new cable. (From the top plastic holder Guide to the bottom to the bottom access there is a pre-installed guide, so cable should easily make it there. In theory, it should go all the way back, but it usually gets stuck somewhere, and that is when the bottom access com handy. Anyway, Thanks Daniel for sharing this video!!!!

      Thanks for the info. I've been having so much problem with mine. I can feed the cable through the frame no problem but there is always some slack causing the rear mech to jump gears (from 1 to 4 on a single click) from the top of the cassette. My transparent hose inside was very long and damaged in the middle so I cut it into 2 and cleaned it but am wondering if it should have stayed as 1 piece. I have tried a new hanger, multiple cables, the rear mech is brand new and I simply cannot get the gears to work. Wondering if I've damaged my shifter, but there is always some pull-back on the cable when you pull on it at the end of the chain-stay (last exit point) as in. You pull it tight and if you let go it releases/springs back a bit and I'm wondering if that is the issue. My bike shop can't book me in for 2 weeks because of Lockdown business increase. Cheers

    Little tip for internal cable routing... before removing the old cable thread a length of electrical earthing sleeve over it and pull it through. Tape it in place so you can feed the new one back in very easily. No need for cotton or hoovers etc. Only needed here on the back section.

    I should have watched this video before changing my rear derailleur cable. Could have saved an afternoon and lots of stress.
    BTW I used dental floss as it's stronger than cotton.

    Oh, and two necessary supplies--thin Teflon tubing and the heaviest unwound guitar string you can find, like .015.

    I´m glad you made this video. On my model, the cables also have a small housing inside the frame. The housing is damaged and I=m wondering if I have to replace it or just leave it away like you did. Did your bike have a housing all the way inside the frame initially?

    Thanks ! Hopefully my 2020 Giant Revolt is similar as dissapointed my right STI has jammed up caused by outer cable chewing up/fraying where it goes into plastic block on front steerer. This could have been easily prevented if Giant used a metal ferrule on cable ends where they enter frame . Be warned 😢

    • @meneldil7604
      @meneldil7604 Před 2 lety

      same problem though thay made the hole to small for a ferrule you need to use a pop end cap normally used for brakes

    Hi there just a question, I'm looking at a 2016 TCR advanced 1 too. Did the cables already come internally routed or did you build this bike and route them yourself?

    • @DanielWestow
      @DanielWestow  Před 8 lety

      +gibsonlespaul5709 Hi, they came internally routed. I changed out the groupset and to had to re-cable. It's a great bike you won't regret it.

    Great video! One quick question, how did you remove the rear cable liner at the exit port by the derailleurs? I can't seem to take mine out...

    • @FlashLighthearted
      @FlashLighthearted Před 5 lety

      On my 2018 TCR it simply pulls out. It's about 6-8 inches long on mine.

      +Christopher Davy You're welcome! I haven't noticed any vibration.

    is it possible to change tcr frame to prophel frame woth the same components on the tcr?

  • @Bruh0369
    @Bruh0369 Před rokem

    Design of this internal cable guide is flawed, those holes on the plastic lid where you feed the cable housing in have a slightly different diameter than the housing, so they eat away the outer part of the housing slowly and create cracking noises
