    Speaking from experience, Holy Shield and Reckoning makes this build better than Conviction and Improved Ret Aura, also allows for you to get Standard Spell power gear for raid healing, and ignore the Defense stat after ~350 because you want to be crit to proc Redoubt and Reckoning. Remember, proc'ing Reckoning by getting crit is better than dealing a crit via Conviction because of Chance on Hit effects. While it would be nice to get improved Retribution Aura, it isn't as good as Holy Shield and the additional blocks from the block increase, enabling Sanc and Shield Spike to a higher extent.
    Furthermore, any time you are pulling more than 5 mobs, Holy Shield will proc guaranteed over the course of the encounter getting its full potential. This, in return causes you to block more gaining survivability and additional Sanc + Shield Spike damage (you have to block to get damage from them).
    At the end of the day, what would you rather have, Retribution aura do 10 additional damage every hit (going from 20 to 30 dmg)? Or Block more often and have blocks deal 135 (Holy Shield) + 35 (Sanc) + 25 (Thorium Spike) in return damage and take less damage overall. This seems like a no brainer.

      Fully agree. Standard prot pala is plenty good at aoe grinding - there's no need to reinvent the wheel with the strange build suggested in this video.

    If you are planning to farm in DM east which is super recommendable, dont get the Thermapluggs central core, since they are nature dmg immune, and this shield does nature dmg. Try to get the Crest of Retribution in Stratholme. Or finish the Quest from the Headpiece Drop of Balnazzar (Stratholme living) and get the Agent of Defender. Which gives you a higher Blockrate for full 10 seconds. its like an improved Redoubt. Only recommended if you have Blessing of Sanctuary ofc.
    Otherwise lovely guide !

    Itemization and Consumables - best guide i know for farming! . Maybe a Truesilver Breatsplate for that extra auto-healing. But don't gimp yourself with a talents build like that! Just go for a 20/31/0 jack-of-all trades build. So you can be a full effective healer in raids or dungeons (with healing gear), you can be a super effective dungeon tank - and still a pretty good tank in Raids (with tanking gear and blessing-of-kings-spam to maintain aggro).
    I like your guide! Well done. But that extra specialized talent build... you can't do anything else but farming with that! 17 points into the retribution tree, just for getting that enhanced retri-aura? Okay, it's a balls to the walls setup. But, i think, the downside for everydays flexible playing is too much. When realizing, that you get every farm spot capped - all mobs down, and you have to wait for respawn - it's even more weird.
    Just go for a good hybrid holy/prot setup! And have good fun in doing anything else, if you're tired of farming.

    Hi, great guide with in-depth discussion on all aspects of Paladin AoE farming. Whilst this guide is a pure AoE build, I myself want to be able to heal raids and be able to AoE farm / tank dungeons. I have made a spec which I have posted below, and please tell me what you think. 20 in holy is standard, and gives you 90% of what you need to heal in raids as a paladin. It may not be cutting edge due to losing 5% crit chance, but will suffice for most paladin raiders. The prot side is more up for debate. My spec should be understood by the context that I intend to fill the improved conc aura position, and be the assigned Sanctuary/Salv buffer. I am also rolling human, and since I will only be dungeon tanking I only need 5% hit chance. Therefore I have only taken 2 points in precision, and put one point in Kings for flexibility should another paladin take the Sanctuary/Salv buffer spot.
    I have not taken improved devotion aura as I won't be using it in raids (I will be using conc aura as discussed), and will be using ret aura most of the time in dungeons. I believe Toughness is the better talent over improved devotion aura, as it equates to approximately 600 gained armour instead of the 175 armour from improved devotion aura. I have not taken anticipation, as again I don't feel I need to gain a very high defence rating for dungeon tanking. And finally I have chosen one-handed weapon specialisation over reckoning because I feel the TPS increase is more consistent. I consider this to be the most controversial choice, and I would happily hear counter arguments to make me reconsider.
    The link below is my intended spec:
    Legacy-WoW.com/vanilla-talents/paladin-talents/?tal=05503110500000052251330031051000000000000000

    • @bhelockharyh2969
      @bhelockharyh2969  Před 5 lety +6

      Interesting build for sure! You did well to take Toughness over Imp Devotion Aura, unless you are in the tanks' party in raids, you lose some efficiency with the bonus as not all party members might fully benefit from the increased armor; so in most cases Toughness is better.
      Reckoning is also very niche, so unless you can somehow make it proc often or you're in PvP, it uses in PvE are very limited.
      Imp Concentration Aura is up to you, as long as you have Spiritual Focus and Conc Aura, you don't get any knockback while casting which puts you in a great situation to use Blessing of Sacrifice if needed. But it is good for other party members as it gives them a 50% chance not to lose knockback. My experience in raids is limited so idk exactly how crucial this is compared to putting 3 talent points somewhere else, but it is nice to have this extra utility along with Kings.
      Personally, I do not advise tanking with deep prot talents, as Holy Shield isn't all that great, it is a decent block chance with potential damage, and quite mana hungry. 1H weapons specialization is cool, but not mandatory to tank; you mainly want that for extra threat but if you have good communication with your party, mark your targets and have tanking consums/tools at your disposal, you should be fine without the 10% damage. An alternative to your build if you want (it is good as it is already) would be to spend your 21 points into the Protection tree as you already have the important talents to tank (Imp Righteous Fury, Blessing of Sanctuary, etc.) and put the 10 last points where you want (more into Toughness or to go deeper in the Holy tree) like in the build linked below. Divine Favor, Imp Blessing of Wisdom and Holy Power are fantastic for a healing spec so you would have the best of both worlds (or as much as possible at least). It is counter intuitive to not choose your last tanking ability but it isn't really worth it unless you already have experience and with it and the Protection tree.
      Last thing as it is a long answer (sorry!) you can also check out my video on the 3in1 build and modify it to fit your PvE needs, it might give you ideas on how to adapt it! Enjoy and feel free to contact me for further details/questions/etc!

      @@bhelockharyh2969 thanks for the extensive reply! I checked out your 3 in 1 video. I suppose the reason I'm picking holy shield is because I think it will make dungeon runs much smoother, and makes me less reliant on the ability of the group. Holy shield itself gains 20% extra threat from the holy dmg proc and is on use. I also plan on using a shield spike, which will be more likely to trigger off the 30% increase block chance. And finally, I'm assuming that the holy shield ability will also trigger the Sanctuary blessing reflect dmg as well from blocks it induces, leading to more holy dmg TPS.
      I do see however that from a purely AoE perspective the mana intensity of holy shield is less preferable than just concentrate and ret aura, assuming threat can be maintained. My response to this is that I plan on a full 8/8 Judgement set (if I get lucky!) and so I should have a decent mana pool compared with purely strength / stam / defence orientated gear. Moreover I plan on using seal of wisdom. Whether wisdom is preferable over SoR holy dmg TPS is likely debatable, and I'm sure experience will tell over time when I actually get down to trying it out.

    • @bhelockharyh2969
      @bhelockharyh2969  Před 5 lety

      @@harry0able Once you get your Tier 2 set, you're pretty much set (no pun intended) as it gives you all the stats you need. The spell power on it gives your spells more damage to increase your TPS. Your reasoning behind why you want to take Holy Shield makes sense, you'll just have to try it for yourself and see how it goes, I personally don't like it but it might work well for you. Whatever you end up choosing, communication and target marking is a must to ensure all goes well and people don't start blaming you for wipes just because you're 'an easy target'. That's the beauty of the Paladin, there's many different ways to play it, as long as you make sure to minimize your weaknesses, you'll do just fine.

    1. Crest of Retribution is the best shield for this IMO, aside from Force Reactive Disk of course.
    2. On official Classic WoW, the Deathbone set has its updated stats. Each piece has Stam, Def, and Mp5.
    3. You can move around points a little and get 2 into Healing Light. This is more than enough for healing the easy mode dungeons and raids in Classic.
    4. Some good instanced farming spots: DME Lashers (phase 2), BRD big circular room near entrance and Ring of Law (upper).

      To be honest if you go for a prot/tanking build then actually tanking dungeons will be your best bet. If you go out and solo level you might not get the most out of it as you don’t have other members covering your ‘blind spots’. If you want to do questing and you find yourself mostly solo, then probably a deep ret or ret/holy build might suit you better. But if you don’t mind the dungeons then I encourage you to tank as tanks are always in high demand and it is great practice for pre raid content at level 60

      If you want to start this build as you level, I would start in the Ret tree and pick up Seal of Command, it is a fantastic talent for leveling along with Pursuit of Justice. Then I'd either go in the Prot tree to pick up Precision (3% hit) and then go Holy for Consecration or go directly in Holy for Consecration and then finally in Prot. This wasn't intended as a leveling build though but you can tweak it to your needs while leveling and respec at 60 to make it the AoE build presented in the video. Copying this build talent for talent might not be the best thing especially if you solo level. But in a group it won't be a problem, so let me know how it goes for you, I'd like to have your feedback!

      I'm pretty sure it will not work as I recall hearing that it didn't work in the Beta . Now if ever Reckoning works, you can go for a 1H/2H reckoning build depending on your preferences. I assume the worst (it will not work) and plan on going Retribution if I solo level. If I can get a duo leveling partner, which I really hope to, then I'll go with a hybrid build of Holy/Prot/Ret. Hope that it answers your question!

      Absolutely! Kargoz's duo leveling guide inspire me for this build. It's pretty much a build that I adapted but for duo leveling with a Warlock, you can go for a aeo grind god comp with all your aoe capabilities as a Paladin + Imp's Fire Shield and the Warlock AoE'ing with rain of Fire!
      But for a solo build, I guess it could work but I know more about the weapon progression with 2Handers so idk if it would be a good idea solo. But definitely try it if you can play with a class that can aoe easily.

      @bhelockharyh2969  Před 3 lety

      @@letsplaybless1399 Skullflame isn't as good in BC in part because you can get a nice shield from questing that procs on block (and you'll have more block in BC) so yeah in this case probably not the best thing to go after and if BOEs are a prob then you can forget it. UBRS/BWL shield are nice too.
      SP items are very nice in TBC so your tier and sageblade isn't that bad to get started, but mageblade for example will be a rapid upgrade if you can roll on it; Quel Serar is also a decent one.
      AOE farming and tanking require different gear because raid bosses can crit/crush but not lvl 62 and below. So deathbone set is definitely something good to get for tanking. And the tier pieces can be good to swap in when you need more threat vs more mitigation.
      Your goal for TBC can be to get the AQ tier with a nice weapon (hopefully a fat SP wep) and the AQ shield, maybe the ZG ring set and block cloak, a styleen's (and more tank items from AQ if you can afford) and you'll be in business to level up in TBC. Obviously an End of Dreams, a Face of Death and Naxx gear is better but you will replace your gear eventually anyways therefore BWL/AQ are surely obtainable goals

      Lifestealing gears such as the Skullflake Shield, the Demon Forge Breastplate and the Wraith Scythe (that has a 1:1 spell power coefficient) could be very good. In the case of a multibox, having 1 paladin with the 8 piece bonus of the T1 set could be really strong as it would be healing the whole group periodically (although for that you need to raid so idk if it would be easily accessible for you). Hand of Edward the Odd could be fantastic to get those instant cast Holy Light and Holy Wrath as well. I think you are over valuing improved ret aura and especially at lower gear levels, which you will be for a long time in classic. Reckoning will proc constantly with shitty gear and reckoning can proc seal of light/wisdom or any on hit effect that might be on your gear. Not to mention by not going so deep into ret you can pick up 2% more parry and a bit more armor to help with the shit gear problem. Seems more useful than 3% crit, 8% movement buff and 10 reflect damage. Also chances are in crappy gear you won't be pulling giant scores of enemies to you so the reflect damage doesn't add up to much by the end of any given fight VS. reckoning procs doing a decent amount of damage and healing/restoring your mana.
    Your build seems perfect for when you have better gear and you're getting crit less often so reckoning isn't as reliable and you're pulling much larger groups where the reflect damage is going to add up quick. Just my two cents though, great video.

    Here's my take, just a humble Paladin King.
    I like imp 1h for 8-10% to ALL damage, and you can ALWAYS use R1 Holy Shield for less mana, still great damage, and more defense = less bullshit. Imp ret aura just sucks ASS. 50% of nothing is NOTHING! 31 Prot 20 Holy is safe, powerful, and can still be functional aside from gold farming. Reckoning is NICE to have on the side, whether 1h or 2h. If forced into a single target situation, you can pull out the 2h and use reckbombs, but 1h/shield still does great dmg too due to your thorns. Case closed.
