You missed that the first question is also the complimentary rule. x and y are complimentary because it is a right triangle.
So sin x = cos (90-x), which is y. So, sin x = cos y, so they are both .6. That is the fast way to solve this problem, without sohcohtoa.

What type of pad are you writing on? I am a high school teacher and have a smart board at school that I make videos/notes for my students. It sucks though because I always have to go back up to school at night. I would love to be able to use some sort of pad/tablet at home. Thanks!

Hey John, is there a video on everything you need to know about statistics A and box plot stuff? I don't really see them often and it would be useful to know some tricks on how to do them and a suggestion. Here is something interesting I noticed on question 1, cos(y) is the same as cos(90-x). So, in essence, it can also be a complimentary rule problem!
There should be one about synthetic division in the playlist

Hey so at 5:14, you said that the answer will be equal to 4/5, isn't 4/5 just the x value? to find cos (90-x) dont u have to plug in cos (90-4/5) and then find that? which, i did and got cos (89.2) or cos (446/5)? I then double checked on the calculator and sin (4/5) and my answer matched up, whereas cos (4/5) didn't. I was just wondering if you meant that we would have to solve it all the way out or not haha.
Nope, "x" is the ANGLE that gets plugged into the function, and "4/5" is the RESULT from plugging in 'x".
Here's another explanation to help you understand
According to the complimentary rule,, sin(x) = cos(90-x)
and the question tells us that sin(x) = 4/5
By using the rule [[ sin(x) = cos(90-x) ]]
we know that
cos(90-x) is also 4/5
does that make sense?

Should't the answer to the SOH CAH TOA question be 4/5 because you use Pythagorean theorem to find the adjacent side
