- In a parking lot test ride I take a bike, one that I've often times never ridden before, and test ride it just like you would at a store.
This one was more fun that even I anticipated.

What is Tao? Allan Watts amzn.to/37enn2o I’ve had a fascination with Eastern philosophy for quite a while. No one seems to put it in words I understand like Allan Watts.
The Poetry of Zen: amzn.to/3rZHp8R There are layers to these words. Not the poetry that we in the West are accustomed to. Beautiful and thought provoking none the less. It keeps me coming back.

I have had the lizard green 1 for almost a year now. People often ask me "what is this bike for?" my response to that is "yes" As long as you don't need to race, you can pretty much do everything on this bike and for me that is the fun. I live near a state park which makes up my usual morning/weekend route, so I can head out through the subdivision on pavement, hit some gravel on the way to the woods and then enjoy some single and doubletrack. Literally as long as you don't need to shred the singletrack or try to be too fast on the road, you can do it all and have a blast doing it. That's the beauty here, you don't need to decide what you will ride before you go, you can take any detour or any surface that presents. I bought it after my bridge club and my kona rove, and honestly, i probably don't need the other 2.
Just picked up the Root Beer Keg colorway APEX build in Seattle for a great deal. Do everything bike. And what a paint job!
You’re reviews are the BEST! New subscriber.
Thank you Thomas!
Just sold one of those to a little old man who came looking for a gravel bike. He took the GM out for a short test ride, and came back smiling like a kid who'd just gotten his first bike. Easy tubeless conversion right out of the box, and would be a better all around bike with a set of 27.5x2.25" Vittoria Mezcals. Glad you liked it.
Awesome
After seeing this years gorilla monsoon paint jobs that pineapple sundae sure seems dreamy🥰.
best 20 second intro
LOVE the GM!! I got a 55 and wished I had a 52. It’s a bike that loves to be tossed around, climbs awesome, and super stable on rough.
how tall are you? I'm i considering a 52, there are no 55 to try...
@@reeceh78 5’8” I have about a 31” stand over. The 55 was just at the top end of fit for me. Have to lower the seat post way down, shorten the stem... Hindsight 52
I have one, and lemme tell you, fat tires, and flat bar conversion… thank me later
Like the Surly poster in the background. Where did you get it from?
That’s just a banner made for dealers.
@@ThePsychicDerailleur OK. Would look great behind my SLHT. Thanks for the reply. JP
If you are going to pick only one bike, which one will you get: Gorilla Monsoon, Space Horse or the Surly Midnight Special?
For me? Or for you? Those are 3 different bikes. For me, at this point, Monsoon all the way.
What are y’all’s thoughts on these versus the salsa counterpart?
I don’t really have any experience with Salsa bikes. I had a Fargo for a very short time. It wasn’t for me.
Does this bike have a comfortable upright riding position? The reason I ask is because I’m comparing to a touring bike
With proper planning (getting some spacers added to the stack before cutting) I would think you could get the bars level with the saddle pretty easily. It depends on how your body is put together obviously. Will it be as upright as a disc trucker? I would think not.
What are your thoughts on swapping out the drop bars for a Jones 2.5 Loop Bar? I’ve had a lower lumbar spinal fusion and need a fairly upright position due to limited range of motion in my lower back.
Man. My first reaction is I don’t know if that’s what I would do with this bike. I’m sure it could be done. It just seems like a long way to go-unless you were planning on a frame up build. To me maxing out the stack and something like a truck stop bar would be a shorter path to a more upright position.
I have to ride more upright than can reasonably be done on a drop bar bike. I was shopping for a new bike, & thought about simply changing the bars. A couple of shops warned that a bunch of stuff would have to change. The brake & shift levers are obvious, but a potential can of worms was the drive train. The warning was that once you get into 10 speed & higher, changing shifters may also call for changing the rear derailer. There didn't seem to be any consensus as to what would work, & I didn't want to be the guinea pig. Kept shopping until I found what I wanted in an upright bar bike. These days it's easy to get a bike that's more complex than it should be.
@@dougpeterson3356 That’s the truth
@@dougpeterson3356 What did you end up going with? Converted a Surly Crosscheck to jones bar a long time ago and it has been perfect, just wanting something a little beefy-er (tire clearance etc). Was thinking this would be the bike for it.
@@lazerfacenatehawk For medical reasons I wanted an e-bike but I didn't want a 50 pounder. So I was looking at drop bar sporty bikes. I finally found the BMC Alpenchange line of sporty city bikes. With a short stem & Map Ahearne swept back bars the fit was good without changing any components. The BMC spec says 42 mm max tire size. I also have the same bar on my Rivendell Atlantis (50 mm max tire). It gets the hands back near the steerer & has a comfortable upright position.
A bit oversaturated on this one. Video-vise that is.
