One month after Kintaro was born.
Jealous Gentaro was too naughty, so Genki couldn't calmly raise her baby.
So on this day, the zoo keepers divided the room into one for Genki and the baby, and another for Momotaro and Gentaro.
It's a rare day when Gentaro spent only Momotaro.ん

⭐️モモタロウ Momotaro ♂(2000/7/3)
momotaro was born at Ueno zoo in Tokyo on jul.3,2000 and came to our zoo on Oct.18,2010.
He is beautiful and handsome ,the silverback of our troop.
He is a little timid,and scared of new things.
He sometimes shows lovely behaviors that melt our hearts.
He is making efforts to be a good dad for his two sons.
⭐️ゲンキ Genki ♀(1986/6/24)
Genki was born at our zoo on Jun,24,1986.
After mating with several males without a pregnancy she found her perfect partner Momotaro.
Now she is a loving and caring mom for her two sons.
She sometimes behaves boldly,yet she can also be sensitive.
Genki has a cute face with shining eyes.
⭐️ゲンタロウ Gentaro ♂(2011/12/21))
Gentaro was born at our zoo on Dec.21,2011,as Momotaro and Genki's first son.
Unfortunately Genki didn't have enough milk,so he was nursed by keepers for his first 10.5 months.
Now he loves his mom,and his face really looks like her.
He also loves people .
Everyone immediately agrees that he is a very adorable boy.
⭐️キンタロウ Kintaro ♂(2018/12/19)
Kintaro was born at our zoo on Dec.19,2018.
He has big bright eyes and long eyebrows.
He is growing fine ,being loved by his parents and brother.
He love to play by himself,with his father.
He is still small, but smart and strong-willed.
His cute appearance and behavior attract everyone's interest.

静かで幸せな母子の時間が流れてる一方で、父子はずっと取っ組み合ってるのおもしろ過ぎる
ゲンキに対して、飼育員さんのこういう配慮があったことを知りました。
モモタロウとゲンタロウ二人だけの時間は、貴重なものでした。
宝物のように大事にキンタロウを育てるゲンキ。
よしよしと、手をトントン優しく動かしあやします。
何度も足を組み直し、体勢を整えキンタロウを抱き、
キンタロウのオシッコも、飲んでいました。
京都の冬は寒いので、キンタロウの身体がオシッコで濡れないようにしたのかな？

I thought from their play and quiet time, they knew something momentous has happened, a new baby, and Mom couldn’t be with Gentaro as he was used to. So Momo did a good job of playing with and comforting his eldest son. I loved seeing their hands touching while they lay on the floor together.

It's always amazing to see a mothers love but watching Momo keep reaching for Gentaro's hand was the most precious thing I've ever seen him do. Thank you for sharing this very special video I absolutely love love love this family they're so different from other gorillas I've watched. ❤
I'm curious though what would happen if something was put out with cushions since they love the blankets. Maybe a couch or mattress, my dogs certainly like it so why wouldn't an animal so much like us. 🌸

Hahaha! I remember this video! I have to say that in my opinion Gentaro was the cutest baby! The videos of him dancing when he was so tiny bring tears to my eyes. But Kinny and those big eyes was something else. Genki was in her mama zone! So funny her panic when Kinny started peeing! Well a mom as to do what a mom has to do!😂 It’s good for new viewers to see that Momo did play with Gentaro even as a big boy!

I’m a sucker for Genki gently patting Kintaro on the back!! So incredibly gentle!! How an animal of such incredible force, weight, and power can be so soft and tender! And the terror on Genki’s face from the tinkle!! 🤣🤣🤣 I think she thought she had broken the little fella!! Hurriedly she tried to cover the geyser and get rid of every drop of who knows what before anyone saw her!! 🤣🤣🤣And how about Genki crossing her legs?? 💖💖💖 The incredibly sad and brutal part is that for all the tenderness Genki has, she never or very, very briefly showed that level of love for Gentaro. Once Kintaro was born Genki dropped baby G like a hot potato. Once she set Gentaro down, she never picked him up the same way, with the same feeling, or with the same love she now shows and feels for Kintaro. I think it’s that rejection you can see in little Gentaro’s sad eyes from the beginning of this video. 💔💔💔

Momo was always happy when he was playing with the boys. Genki was able to sit still back then, even without eating. Plus her coat was nice and dark and clean. It's nice to remember how she was.

I enjoy videos of Momo and Gentaro playing when Gentaro was smaller. Too bad they don't do it now because Gentaro is a big boy. His playful behavior might be seen as a threat and/or disrespect. That could lead up to family upheaval like in the Shabani family last week. You can see Momo trusts him though to be his second.

They didn't separate them from gentaro. Most zoo's do this for a new baby, it is just to give the mother and child time to bond.

Jenki rejected Gentaro so many times after Kintaro was born. There are so many videos where she is pushing him away or smacking him in the face. She didn't want anything or anyone touching Kintaro. That's when Gentaro started to act up and misbehave. He was young when Kintaro was born and still needed his mom and wanted her love and affection. He became very distant from both parents, my poor baby.
Plus genki wasn't very nice to gentaro even before kintaro was born. She tries to be a good mother, until they hit about 4 then she changes dramatically. She is starting to change on kintaro now. This is what she used to do to gentaro at dinner time, and she has been doing this to kintaro also.

Even the outdoor area is hardened dirt. In the jungle they would have grasses, and lots of plant ground cover to sit on. They seem to get plenty to eat though.
I think so too. Recently, many donated trees have been planted in the outside area. But I think gorillas would rather have grass on the ground than more trees.

1:45 I was rather surprised when Kintaro started peeing but I was even more surprised when Genki appeared to be drinking his urine. I don't know if this is a behavior that's unique to Genki or if it's something that is commonly done by gorilla mothers. I'm reminded of the time that one of my dogs had puppies and I was freaked out the first time that I saw the mother dog go around and eat all the puppy poop. I did a bit of research on it and found that it was perfectly normal for mother dogs to ingest their puppies' feces and urine. It may serve several purposes -- one is that the mother dog is literally sacrificing her body to feed her offspring but there are a lot of undigested proteins in the puppy poop that she essentially recycles by ingesting it. Another is that puppies can't walk for the first weeks after birth so the mother has to do this to keep the poop from piling up in the den area. And then some people theorize that it's a leftover behavior from when dogs were still wild -- the mother would clean up the area around the den so that predators would not be attracted to the smell of puppy poop. So I suppose it's possible that gorillas engage in similar behavior. I have heard that they will sometimes eat their own waste.
