  • DIY Floating Pond Plant Basket for my pond. Protect your plants from your aquarium fish with these plant baskets. These ensure that the fish are going to destroy your aquarium plants you’re trying to keep in the water. I’ve been keeping pothos in my pond in my basement for a while now using this method of using the plant baskets. Check out this video and learn how to do it yourself aquarium plant baskets.

The best homemade floating baskets I've seen! It's ridiculous to spend $25 for one on Amazon. Yours are simple, cheap, and effective. Thank you!

I think just a powerhead would push the baskets around. How about a spraybar that runs along the back with holes that empty into the baskets. It could be attached to a powerhead etc.
I actually grow my plants in hang on breeder boxes (Finnex & Fluval). They have a slow flow in & out & can be powered by an airpump/airline or powerhead. No worries of roots getting nipped by fish.

Your pond builds in your basement are epic! I need a tour. Let's get together soon. 🤙

Keep the water in your baskets moving slowly...maybe a small filter pump would do...all the best 👍

I like the basket idea. I m always looking for ideas. Thank you. You know small hair clips work well to attach pothos where you want them. Like the ones you see on orchids. I use those and bamboo skewers. Pathos get big enough you dont even see them. Good luck keeping the roots from growing out. ;-) But you can trim em. I like what you are doing. Your idea of making more holes for water movement might work. Trial and error. How we all learn. Cant wait to see the sump... Also cant wait to see more chaos with your star Whiskey.

maybe notch out where the handle is, you might also drop an airstone in each basket. you could probably get away with some shrimp in the baskets, they'd do some housekeeping and any that were brave enough to leave the basket would be food(unless the fish were smart enough to sink the baskets for more shrimp food)

Maybe make a waterfall type of scape in the back where you can pump your water there. Also to add the plants there instead in the pond itself to have a clear view inside the pond.

put some red lava rocks in your trays. the roots will grab it and hold the pathos up better.

Dollar tree for pool noodle, razor for cutting the pool noodle, baskets, zip ties. $4. Or glue styrofoam left over from an Amazon delivery or wherever

  • @brandonsmalleyorblspinc689

    No surface agitation?

id tie multiple lines of twine from the inside of the basket to the opposite side just to make some sort of buffer between the water and the leaves. either that or use mesh thats tied to the top of the baskets or even styrofoam with holes all the way through to plant the cuttings into, airstones in the planters would help i think since youre already running an air pump from what i can see, maybe you could even breed guppies in there.
    nice concept btw.

Cool pond, Put your plants in little pots with dirt in them then sit them in the baskets. They willl stand up and the plants will love the dirt.

Put the Zip tie connection on the INSIDE, Fish rub against the outside the rough edge where you cut will slice them open.

Pothos Leaves don't die underwater, I have a pothos simultaneously growing both under and over water and putting out new leaves in both directions. Once one leaf is in the air growth should be fine.

Great idea!! Can you tell me what the white fish is in the beginning of the video ? You can see him swimming around as you put zip ties on the basket.
    Thanks!!
