Join me as I take on the challenge of transforming a 2006 Mercedes R500 from a salvage yard find to my daily commuter. I bought this car from Samcrac and am excited to share the process of bringing it back to life with you. Stay tuned for updates and progress on this project!
This is what I fixed on this video:
    - Transmission fluid, filter, gasket and bolts
    - Transfer case, front diff and rear diff fluids
    - Engine flush and oil and filter change
    - Replaced engine air filters
    - Replaced power steering reservoir
    - Power steering fluid flush
    - Replaced idler, tensioner and acc belt
    - Replaced front right and rear left wheel speed sensor
    - Replaced front and rear wipers
    - Replaced fuel cap
With this maintenance, I managed to get rid of all the DTC lights and now the car drives and shifts perfectly. However, I still need to take car of a lot of broken things. Stay tuned for the next video.

Good luck with this Benz! What a great era for these cars and these R500s are pretty unique. If you ever wanna save $ in the future on an engine flush, just buy a couple gallons of diesel fuel. The few flush products I've used, I've pulled up their spec sheets and it's just mostly diesel or kerosene!

On the transmission fluid you are best to also disconnect the return line from the cooler and run it into a bucket using short bursts of the engine. Pump 1 litre at a time and then fill the trans back up each time. You will flush the TC , cooler and lines.

That's a great tip. I bought another 5 liters and I'll use your technique

Good job , probably saving $1k from dealer. For spark plugs, I bought gearwrench magnet extended sockets, you’ll never drop a plug again #41740D three pieces 5/8” socket. Your merc might be different thou

Thanks for the comment and the tip! I did buy the magnetic socket for bens and it's an absolute must have for these engines! I did the spark plugs today and it will be on the next video.

Tranny with TC drain plug is newer 7g-tronic+. This being 2006, you have old one. Also, there are bunch of drains that like to clog. Once they do , water fills various cavities and sometimes ruin electronic boxes.

Theory on the front diff oil is that it gets a lot more punishment due to poorer cooling compared to rear

hmm, PS fluid for R-class is usually ATF-based (Q1460001), not CHF.

You're absolutely right. I just checked the repair manual and it says ATF 236.3 spec. I've spent on chf for nothing. I'll swap to atf and do a video on it
