  • Today we try do build a modular synth under 1000$!
I'm all about techno and electronic music production. Join me in my studio filled with gear, from synths to modular setups. As an engineer, I'm obsessed with music tech and prefer dawless jams. Let's explore the world of live electronic music together!
Break down of my Modular Synth: Using the Octatrack for the Drums, the custom Plaits and the Behringer EDGE for some Percussive Elements. The Basimilus & the Neutron with the custom Rings Module as my main Synth. If you have some Questions let me know in the comments! :)
Using Eurorack system, Elektron Octatrack Mk1, Behringer EDGE, Arturia Beatstep Pro.

Props for not being afraid to recommend Behringer. They get a lot of hate from purists for more/less good reason. But, for someone looking to jump in the modular rabbit hole, they're good options and can teach you all the fundamentals for jumping into the more "boutique" stuff.

Start with a Behringer Neutron, it has more than you would get from a $1000 rack, it'll give you the chance to see if you like patching things. Second hand they cost about as much as a single module like the BIA, LI or even Plaits. Arturia MiniBrute 2S is also a good start, with a clear upgrade path to eurorack attaching the rackbrute when you want to take the plunge, better quality and a little more expensive.

Behringer have a module in their Roland System 100M clone range that combines VCO and VCF. It sounds great, perfect for Techno, and it is particularly affordable. Another alternative is the Behringer Kobol. It is a complete synth out of the box for a great price. I think it can be the core of a modular.

Thank you, very interesting! 🤟 I just started with a DIY case, a Neutron and a Gohst. It's in my opinion also a cheap start point. The Neutron comes with a lot of internal modules along, they can be used for the first modules as well. My next module will be an Alan 3u, then a Plaits or Basimilus.

Would this be a better investment or a Behringer 2600 clone?
