A tip I saw on another channel is to use binder clips on the outside Velcro straps and that will keep them from coming undone and flapping around. Cheap and easy fix.
Thanks for the informative video I have used a product called 303 protectant on my Jeep and motorcycle vinyl / plastics for years it protects from UV and keeps the material from drying out - it does what armor all says it does, without the dry waxy feel and dust collection.
Gonna get the XL for my fj80. A cheap easy fix for your straps. Take some small Velcro straps and run it around the straps to keep em tight. Good review. I was kinda hesitant on Smittybilt stuff. But it seems they have up their QC in last few years.
Thanks for the great review. Could you use something like a binder clip on the velcro straps to keep them from undoing themselves? A cheap band aid but maybe all you need
Great videos! Great reviews! Have you thought of plastidip removable paint on the tent cover? I used on on my rims for 3 years now and it's pretty durable. It would look new and protect it at the same time.
Overland Florida I will have to spend some time on your channel then! I am in the process of a build of my own. I was looking at the Harbor Freight ones but I like the metal around your rig for weld points.
Nice videos! Just found your videos whilst looking for some assurances on the TJs holding RTTs. I like how you moved to a trailer - but did the roofrack hold the tent well enough for the year or so you had it up there?
@@OverlandFlorida awesome thanks for the quick feedback. Mine would be on and off, but would have two adults sleeping up there, so wasn't sure if it would cause damage. Suppose it's down to the quality of the roofbars and how well distributed the weight is.
Nice review man, I am also a jeep owner in Florida (west palm beach area) and I am looking into investing in some overlanding gear. I have watched a lot of your videos it looks like a lot of overlanding/free camping locations are further north west, have you traveled south at all? Any sweet spots near west palm? Are there any websites/ forums that you would recommend for any Florida locals that want to get in on all the jeep/overlanding events? Love your videos man keep up the great work!

Dave White , I too have problems with heat... I’ve been asking that same question everywhere. All I get is; get a hotel... I’m currently working on a solution. Thinking about engineering a flap with a zipper release, with a foldable support for the AC.
I'm buying one and am curious. You used to have it roof mounted and now its on a trailer. Why did you change it? Which set up do you prefer and why? Thanks.
Unless you have someone to help remove it all the time. It's annoying leaving it up full time. I like having a trailer that I can leave packed in my garage. Just back up to it and go.
How’s the condensation in the morning, does the mat get wet underneath or walls and ceiling? Does the floor give very much if you’re kneeling? It seems like an excellent tent for the price. Thanks for review.
Dennis Cooper I have experienced no condensation. It's usually just me inside the tent tho. The floor is solid. The floor is kind of noisey when you move around.
CR Mills The trailer and RTT have been sold. I've been using the awning and room lately. However, I did buy an off road camper a week ago. I'll be posting a video soon.
What do you think a trailer is A>worth the effort and hassel ? or B> Rather have a roof top set up ? What do you think are the advantages of a detached trailer tent compared to one on a roof?
Hi I'm looking for something like this for my disco td5 roof. Have you any links or mail order info where I could purchase one of these? Keep up the vids dude!!
I mean the two metal loops (metal thingy, not sure what it is called in English) in which you pass the strap before you stick one side of the velcro to the other. You pass the strap in the first loop only, then pass it under the second metal loop, and pull down.
I see, probably because I bought my tent in August 2016 and Smittybilt has improved the original strap design by adding a second metal buckle (that's the word I was looking for) on all velcro strap attachments for the tent itself and the cover, which secure the strap in place even if the velcro itself is not sticky anymore.
If you don't want people to hear velcro being undone then turn up the volume on your radio to full blast before you do it. It works very well. Nobody will hear the velcro sound!
Nice video! I am looking at this specific tent myself . I am in Florida also, where do you usually camp ? My son and I would like to start getting out a little more often . Thanks !
900$ in usa.... and 1540$ in europe from official distributor... what a fucking joke. almost cheaper to take car overseas and install it there and take the car back lol
Smittybilt, for the money, is the best roof top tent out there, period
You are right. It's an excellent tent.
Thank you for doing this, I know you use your stuff but you take care of it too. Thanks I get good info from your channel and no BS.
You're welcome. I try to give very honest opinions.
Great review, thanks for taking your time to do this. I have the same plans for my trailer but with the addition of some racks for kayak's.
Stephen Sykes
Thankyou for the comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the videos and good luck with your trailer.
awesome review as I was looking at this today. Wow a 2.5 year update would be awesome. Thanks, Fig
Still holding up fine. But the cover is the weakest part if you leave the tent in the sun year round.
Your trailer set up is turning out great!
A tip I saw on another channel is to use binder clips on the outside Velcro straps and that will keep them from coming undone and flapping around. Cheap and easy fix.
That's a good idea!
The trailer??? That’s a really cool idea ... great video... think I’m gonna go the trailer route eventually....
Thanks for the informative video

Thanks for the comment. I'll look into that.
BDAWGRANGER plus one for aerospace 303. I use it on everything in and out including my tonneau which looks brand new after six years
Great review. We are thinking of buying one and your review convinced us to buy one. I just have to figure out shipping to Colombia south America.
I'm glad this video helped.

Thank you for the feed back. I'm not sure if plasti-dip would work.
Nice review!
Thanks. It's a great tent.
lol. dude. ive been looking through reviews of these on youtube and low and behold... i stumbled across this. hope you're doing well man!
Haha!!! Yeah man, I got 26 weeks of vacation this year. I'll be back in colorado soon. I might even bring my offroad trailer.
Thank you so much for this review!! I love your observation as well as your help. I live in Florida as well, where did you get your trailer?
Daniel Arroyo.
From Craigslist. I have videos of the build on my channel.
Overland Florida I will have to spend some time on your channel then! I am in the process of a build of my own. I was looking at the Harbor Freight ones but I like the metal around your rig for weld points.
You nailed it I would have the same comments on mine have about same time now

Awesome, I sold it for $500. But I'd buy another no questions asked.
Have you thought wrapping the ladder with skateboard tape?
Paul Chase lol well coming down to say the same thing but yeah grip tape will go along way
Nice videos!
Just found your videos whilst looking for some assurances on the TJs holding RTTs. I like how you moved to a trailer - but did the roofrack hold the tent well enough for the year or so you had it up there?
The roof rack held up. It was up there for a year and I drive through 4 different states regularly.
@@OverlandFlorida awesome thanks for the quick feedback. Mine would be on and off, but would have two adults sleeping up there, so wasn't sure if it would cause damage. Suppose it's down to the quality of the roofbars and how well distributed the weight is.
Have you ever been in an area where there is a lot of wind. I live in an area where there is always strong wind sometimes as much as 15MPH. Thanks.
Yes I have. 15mph is nothing for this tent.
What differences exist between the first and second generation tent? See latest ones have DC power and LED lights. You mentioned the cover changed?
My first generation tent had power and lighting. Basically the cover changed.

How long is the ladder fully extended? Wondering if im going to have to get an extension for a lifted suv
For most suv's on 35's you don't.
Are you able to replace the cover if needed?
Great video, thanks for sharing
Thanks for the comment and yes, you can get a replacement cover.
what are the dimensions of the trailer? I am looking to build something similar
what do you do in summer is there any place for a home depot small AC unit. I too live in Florida.

Any problems with mold or smells building up over time?
Not once. And it was out up wet many many times.
How is the walls? Is it 4 seasons and could you fulltime? How about Alaska winter camping?
You would need a buddy heater. But it would do well in the snow.
Can this be used with other vehicles as well? I have 2003 ford explorer
Anderson Productions
You could put this on a Ford Explorer.
To hold the velcro strap, pass it in the second loop. That way, it will never come off even if the velcro itself is completely gone.
Di Pizzo
My tent doesn't have a double loop.
I mean the two metal loops (metal thingy, not sure what it is called in English) in which you pass the strap before you stick one side of the velcro to the other. You pass the strap in the first loop only, then pass it under the second metal loop, and pull down.
I just went back to check. I only have one loop.

did you set up the tent in this trailer or up on the jeep?
The same tent was both on my jeep and on the trailer. I moved it.
In your opinion, is this tent large enough for two adult men? My son and I are planning a trip to Colorado.
Yes, 5'10 and shorter.
Liked the vid. Where did you say you bought it?
4 wheel parts
What kind of trailer is that? Do you custom build it?
It's just a regular trailer from tractor supply that I modified. Look at the other videos on my channel.
What’s the build on that trailer....size etc and how you mounted it....thanks
There's actually an entire playlist about this trailer. Let me find the link. I think it was 4x6

@@PickinPins thanks. There's a Facebook group "overland Florida community". You can ask all the questions you want in there.

Nope.
What is the difference between 1st gen and 2nd gen of this tent?
Not a whole lot. Mainly the cover.
Is this the XL?
Jacob Stark
No.
Is that a jeep ranch wrist band?
Christopher Wisdom
It sure is. I love me some Jeep Ranch.

Why don’t you like the rain fly?
The rain fly is ok. But water pools up in the rain.
