  • Did you know that the Bible endorses slavery? Every society needs laws. But if we claim that our laws came from God, how can we hope to ever change them for the better?

    Thank you Yuval for sharing your thought. I'm a Christian and I always appreciate thinking over other people's view. In my view, the Bible does not endorse slavery. It pinpoints it as a result of human's corruption. Some other parts of the Bible show that. However, the God displayed in the Bible is a God that meets people where they are. If the society to which He talks to cooperates according to a slavery system, then God would speak accordingly so everybody is on the same page to understand each other. This does not necessarily mean God endorse human organizations and politics.

    The Bible neither endorses slavery nor condemns it. All it says is, as a slave owner, how to treat your slaves. As a slave, how you are to act towards your owner. In both cases, it is with respect. Now, with respect to Yuval, the commandment 'do not covet...whatever...' , means the Israelites were not to desire, long for, or set their hearts on anything that belonged to anyone else. Yuval is coveting by desiring you to set your heart on questioning God's wisdom.

      As God has judged their sin appropriately, whether they were a salve or slave owner, or neither. As he will judge you for your sins. Don’t mistake your perceived lack of response from God as a reason for His none existence. While not necessarily scriptural, it has been said, the mill of God turns very slowly, but it grinds exceedingly small.

    We may not have the power to change the commandments, but we do have the ability to interpret them as we see fit -- say, in light of changing social norms. That reinterpretation process is our form of amending / adapting the commandments to our current era.

    Exactly. That's why what you said in your awesome book about religions being the same as nations, money, states or companies and vice versa was wrong. You can argue if a national tradition makes people progress or happy or unhappy or whatever and then change it if needed. The same goes for states governments, companies and money. This happens bc unlike all those things religions are based in an untouchable supernatural order way beyond any human skill or capacity to change or improve it if needed. It's the eternal unquestionable will of God or whatever and no one can do nothing about it. Those who even try are instantly branded as blasphemers and get heavily punished leading everything to stagnate. Contrary to progress stagnancy makes people depressed and unhappy. I listened you. Thanks you for listening. Me. Thanks to communication.

      9th commandment;-It tells you to not do sorcery, which can put you into slavery. Remember that! It can be hypnosis, I was a slave to that! The Ten Commandments is very valid today and always will be. GOD IS NEVER WRONG!
      Neighbours means the whole world as bros and sis. Witchcraft is so valid as the word soothsayers/ spell-bounds. The Catholic Church Exorcists talk about this. Spells eg:- to put on men to be a witches husbands its a type of slavery mate. I could not leave my partner and I tried many many times. My mother had put a spell on me to stay with him. Thanks be to GOD!

    • @sensereference2227
      @sensereference2227 Před 3 měsíci +4

      It kind of does because the 10th Commandment states "You shall not desire your neighbour's house, or field, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour” (Deut 5:21), which implies that, in G-d's eyes, a person can own another person as property just like all the other items in the list. If slavery was immoral in G-d's view, then slaves would not belong to the category of things that a person can own in the first place. This is the reason there is no rule to not to covet your neighbor's impressive idol shrine or same-sex lover - no one needs to be told this because their neighbor isn't allowed to have them in the first place according to the Bible.

      Yes, discussion between Harari and Peterson could be so beneficial for humankind. Harari and Peterson are the leading thinkers of our times in the development of new worldviews. And their worldviews seem so different. My hope would be that they would find some common ground and more precisely identify their differences. Peterson in more recent years has been trying with some success to have respectful dialogues-rather than debates- with other thinkers who have secular/atheistic views (Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris…). My hope is that Harari will do the same.

    Zeus, Christ, Allah and his messenger Muhammad, Budha (well ok, this last one is not a God but still....) and so many others. Leaving a side them incredible superpowers which curiously we humans are slowly (yet also incredibly) achieving thanks to Science, scientists and their equations and inventions, all of those prophets and/or deities had (or have if they are still worshiped today) in common that they were/are able to enter inside the collective consciousness of many, many, many people for a long, long, long time (some even till today) in a very, very, good, good way (lots of individuals thinking good things about them). Not an easy task no doubt (hence the difficulty which I didn't understood to be one ). In a way it could be said that all of them controlled (or control if they are still worshiped nowadays) the very thoughts, feelings and actions of those who followed/trusted them bc the ones who did/do so ended/end up acting and behaving like those Gods and their prophets wanted people to behave obtaining in the process one of their greatest superpowers indeed (which sadly sometimes turned into supercorruption like so often happens with regular power). That's why is commonly known that if the followers of a certain religion stop supporting, following, trusting, worshiping, praising (always avoid beLIEve or faith and just think, hope, know, ignore, imagine or remember instead) their God/s that religion and its God/s simply disappear into oblivion.
    So, do you wanna enter the collective consciousness of many people for many years in a very good way ? Do you wanna live on forever in the heart of many people ? Do you wanna transcend ? Do you wanna become............ GODS ? (well, only God-like enities without superpowers, therefore save from supercorrupting others or you yourselves). Ah forget it, spare me the answer will you ? We already have (each one of us in our own way. mainly, though not only, thanks to internet and writing I admit). Well done. Well, at least now, after so many movies about them nonsensical new messiahs and antichrists alike (Dune, Immaculate, etc.) you finally know which kind I am. You all can finally rest at night. If you still are not sure here a hint: CZcams video "Dungeon Keeper Soundtrack (Full)" first soundtrack. Have fun. I'm already. HHHOOOOUUUUMMM. Sorry but let's be honest: We all know where the hot women are. Oh, and speaking of hot women, I think I shall gather them all in one place and see what happens. Just kidding. If I would something tells me everything would end like CZcams video "Populous 3 The Beginning - The Armageddon Spell". Anyways, with or without me, always remember:..............TAKA !! Take a look at the old testament and compare it with the new testament. My, my even God himself changed to hateful to lovely. Why I wonder. Just this once I don't wonder (it's so sweet being free to wonder that it's difficult not to. getting the correct answers it's just a nice addon). I know. It was bc of real facts. The solid fact that in the beginning literally everyone behaved like literal ruthless savages with everyone else. That was unsustainable and deserved punishment. Later on, curiously (sarcasm) things improved. People started to behave more civilizedly and God stopped being so hateful and curiously (sarcasm) was full of love. Hah. We simply do what we need to do to adapt and survive. Like ants and bees. Maybe in a century or so there will be an even newer testament which will be more tolerant with gays or will allow priests to be married therefore decreasing the number of @@@ children.

      1. “Endorse” does not mean “command”. 2. The Bible only puts limitations on how to treat slaves from the same nation, but allowed and even encouraged buying slaves from other nations living among them, or capturing them from nations that there was war with. The reason for that is that slavery was part of how societies functioned then.
      Fortunately, societies have evolved, and most people now are horrified by the idea of slavery (though it still subsists in various forms, legal and illegal).
