She was pretty strong and her coach(forgot his name) was really protective of her because they were close. I don’t know for sure though, but considering over 100 women spoke out Alicia would have if she was. Also side note but I’m really glad we can watch meets knowing there isn’t hidden molestation going on
Why did Alicia never upgraded her DTY to an Amanar? Her vault in this meet showed that she's very capable of doing one, she literally took a hop that was basically her own body length. She probably could've won gold in Beijing or even London knowing that both Cheng Fei and McKayla Maroney fell, and Marta probably would've put her on the team in 2012
Unfortunately I don't think there is anything Alicia could have done to make the 2012 team once she dropped floor. That made Aly who contributes on vault, beam, and floor more valuable than Alicia just contributing on vault and beam. Maroney would still be picked for vault over her unless her Amanar was better than Maroney's (unlikely), and they didn't need her enough on beam for that to put her on over Maroney. Ross was always going to be taken for bars/beam, given the U.S's dire need on bars. Douglas is obvious, especialy their dire need on bars again. And Wieber as World AA Champion was always a lock and potentially contributes on all 4 events in a team final setting. Once Alicia dropped floor she wasn't making the team barring an injury to someone. Yes with how Beijing and London went she could have won vault gold with an Amanar, or even without it in London, but alas I don't see her making London.
It is interesting because she had way more potential of doing a solid Amanar vault than Aly, but Mihai only pushed Aly to do it. Keep in mind McKayla was initially taken for her potential floor as well, but couldn't do that due to her injury. Besides her vault was much better than Alicia's. I also don't see how Alicia would have made the team. She was worthy but there was just too much talent to choose from. The only logical replacement for McKayla for me would have been Elizabeth Price
When is the last time we saw something as cool as Bieger’s beam combo (layouts in both directions to her knees). Granted it’s piss poor composition that will not pay dividends in competition but still memorable!
Commentator is so ridiculous...like Chellsie should have moved on at the age of 16? because she couldn't compete at the Olympics because of an injury. I don't think so.
Nastia is always so composed and articulate in her interviews, even at a young age. Great competition for her in Day 2 :).
