Both voice actors did an amazing job!

Nah you'd be fine. For a moment at least... The manga explains it better, but they bowed purely off of instinct. Showing respect for the king of curses is literally ingrained into their being. You'd probably be in a similar state.

I love how powerful and intimidating both of these dubs make him seem, but in a different way.
The Japanese one sounds very nonchalant, calm and condescending, showing he knows he's just so powerful he doesn't even *need* to take anything seriously and just finds amusement in toying with everyone else. This really reflects how he's been described, an entity that's guided and fueled only by his desires, doing whatever satisfies his wants with absolutely no limit.
The English dub on the other hands makes him sound more like a stereotypical villain, but it does so extremely well. His tone is more serious and cavernous, and he sounds slightly older too, reflecting how ancient he actually is. I especially love the way he says "Malevolent Shrine", or tells Mahoraga "You can see my curse technique", absolutely bone-chilling.
Ray Chase is eating as Sukuna currently. I can't wait to see the rest of the manga get animated.
It's like in JP he knows he's the strongest villain and he expects everyone to know that, but in EN it's like he keeps reinforcing everyone that he indeed is the strongest feeling.

I'm curious how he'd know mahoraga's name at that point, because i don't think megumi ever mentions it around yuji. Sukuna also wasn't close by when the ritual started. "oh but it's a famous creature". . . not famous enough for sukuna to know how it works beforehand.
I still absolutely adore that line and it's magnificent delivery.

Since Jogo got his head cut, Sukuna roasted him by saying that he doesn't value his life and there for is a "lightweight". The dub also kinda has an implied two for one meaning with "lightweight" being used to describe weakness/being weak.

Honestly, both versions are vaild for me. I serious don't get why people fight over this type of stuff. Like you can just say you like one version over the other without having to downplay the other. Of course you can dislike something, but give a reasonable arugment then "Yours Suck, Mines Better".

These arguments stem from the early dubs of yesteryear... the people that argue over it nowadays have no valid excuse to argue.. they weren't exposed to bad VAs. Today, the VAs in both countries are talented, and VA, in general, is respected work that wasn't here in the States. That changed in the mid-90s, but you got the weebs that tried to say they were more fans because they liked the original...
Both actors play sukuna perfectly. You know you have a top teir anime when both versions spit lines so perfectly that send chills down your spine.

4:15 I watched the sub on my first time through. Then I rewatched it with the dub with a buddy of mine and that line gave me chills
Sub: Sounds youthful. Like a 20-something year old cruel Yakuza boss. Sounds like he toys with his victims and tortures people. Evil, but still sounds human at the end of the day.
Dub: Sounds like a matured supernatural being. No longer sounds human but more-so demonic. As others have mentioned, his voice is very regal. A lot of reverberation and bass. Uses more breath as he talks. Also holds the last note of certain words for a strong regal effect. Ex: “Malevolent Shrinnne” or “Opennn”.
Dub takes the cake imo. No more words to describe it besides… malevolent lol
japanese voice actor is very cutesy about being evil, u can tell the difference with the "try harder" scene.

Sub Sukuna sounds like he has a drawl, he seems to say his words slowly. It's attractive.

Japanese VA really emphasizes his deviousness, and apathetic cunning, but the English VA comes off as a much more menacing presence. Just his tone of voice alone, and you get why people would rather wait for a meteor to crush them than piss him off.
Both are great, though the tie breaker for me is the English VAs laugh. Bro fucking SENT IT!
Other than the "Ryoiki Tenkai" part, I prefer the most parts in the Dub.
Ray Chase did an amazing job and I think he outclassed Suwabe in every possible way.

I would say, not really.
Sukuna is the kind of villain who derives pleasure from his rampages and killings. You can see it by the smile he has throughout his entire Shibuya arc scenes.
Suwabe manages to capture that perfectly, with his voice always giving off that playful, mocking tone.
The English dub sounds way more generic ice-cold villain-like persona. This doesn't make sense because in the laughing scenes, Sukuna then suddenly reverts to his devilish laughs, which clearly shows he's enjoying what he's doing.
@@darkeditz638 Yeah yeah yeah... Ray's a natural with different tones of voices. I fucking loved suwabe's performance and think it was perfection (10/10). But rewatching the Shibuya Incident in dub gave me fucking goosebumps. Ray handled sukuna so well I loved it; it was beyond perfection (12/10). And yes, I still stand by my opinion. If you think otherwise, feel free to do so.

As someone who doesn't care for english dubs very often, this was a damn good performance. That being said, I do like the japanese version more; not because japanese = better or anything like that, but Sukuna is an absolute troll, and I just think the more playful tone of the jp dub shows that side of him better

Honestly I would not be so stupid as to order Sukuna. I would have phrased as something along the lines of “If it would please you, Lord Sukuna, I want nothing more than the death of (insert name here).” It might still end in my death, but then again it might not.
